While traveling on the highway, my speedometer began acting erratically. For weeks, it would get stuck at certain speeds, then begin working again. After a couple of months, it stopped working completely. Later, other gauges such as oil pressure and water temperature also stopped working completely. The speedometer is a basic safety necessity, and I would not expect to have to repair it.

7 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

Driving vehicle at highway speeds for approx. 1 hour causes dial-type speedometer to begin registering incorrectly. Initially the deviation is only 3-4 mph, but over time will worsen. Actual speed is being measured with handheld gps unit to check against speedometer deviation. Speedometer can register over or under actual speed. At worse, speedometer can show 0-5 mph while traveling at 60-65 mph actual, and at other times has registered 110-115 mph while traveling at 40-45 mph actual. If engine is shut off and restarted, speedometer will register actual speed for a short time, then begin deviating from actual again. Problem does not appear to occur when only traveling at speeds below highway speed (30-45 mph), but when traveling at highway speeds long enough for deviation to occur, speedometer will begin registering over/under actual at any actual speed if vehicle is being continuously driven (not shut off).

2005 GMC Yukon speedometer malfunctioning. Occurs every other day approximately. Vehicle may be traveling at 10 mph while the speedometer may register 50 mph.

9 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2009

Went on a vacation this past summer to idaho and noticed that the speedometer quite working. It would be 60 mph while sitting still and over 120 when moving. Of course we were pulled over for going over the speed limit. By the end of the day, the fuel gauge and temperature gauge also went. Now all the gauges are not working. Took it a gm dealer and had to pay close $690 to have repaired. After reading online this sounds like it has been quite an issue with several gm vehicles. I believe that this should be a recall.

10 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

Faulty speedometer 2005 GMC Yukon. I recently saw a news report on faulty speedometers with gm vehicles done back in 2007 and I am experiencing the same problem with my 2005 GMC Yukon. Currently my speedometer sits at 60 mph in park and gets pinned at 120 mph on the road when I'm only moving around 40 mph. I have contacted GMC and they told me the warranty on this problem is 5 yrs or 70,000 miles. One problem, I am at 91,000 miles and they told me GMC mailed out letters stating the speedometer problems. I never received this letter!! now they are offering to fix the problem for $600!! I have also contacted gm customer help line and the said the same thing. My question is if GMC admits to the faulty speedometer then why did they put a 70,000 mile cap on the warranty for this issue which is clearly a safety hazard?? could you please help? also do you have any advice with this issue? thank you for your help and for looking out for the consumer.

12 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2009

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Yukon denali. While the vehicle was parked the contact noticed the gear indicator light on the instrument panel was not functioning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer when the contact noticed the light was dim. The dealer could not diagnose the failure because the vehicle had not completely shut off. The light completely turned off and was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

14 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2009

While driving the speedometer will stop descending at a speed and when the driver accelerates, the needle will respond as though the sticking point were the speed of deceleration and continue rising from there until the needle is over past the last listed speed on the face of the ipc. It occurs about once every two weeks and when it occurs it is impossible to know what the speed of the vehicle is. So far, it is possible to correct the problem by letting the vehicle sit, sometimes overnight is necessary, and start the vehicle and then shut it off. This drops the speedometer needle about 5mph. The driver must continue to do this until the needle has gone from the black face of the ipc to the zero mark on the panel.

18 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2009

The speedometer on the vehicle works sometimes and when it does, it is usually inaccurate. The time when it does not work is usually after 6pm. I have discussed the situation with other GMC Yukon owners and some of them have the same complaint.

19 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

Instrument panel cluster gauge needle -- speedometer gauge -- works intermittently. It sticks on 0mph, on a previous rate of speed regardless of increase or decrease, or displays rate of speed at 100+ mph. Very inconsistent. When the speedometer does decide to work it is about 10-15 mph off of accurate rate of speed. (compared to gps that displays current rate of speed) it was taken to dealer and contact stated that it is same cluster panel gauge of 2003-04 year models currently in recall although has not extended to 2005-06 year models at this time.

20 Instrument Panel problem

22 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2007

Speedometer failure on my 2005 Yukon denali. Needle gets stuck and wont return to normal position. Auto manufacturers have been installing speedometers in cars for over 100 years. Vehicle is only 3 years old and has 50,000 miles. GMC wont recall because not enough people have complained, but yet 03-05 were recalled in the same model. I feel this creates a costly repair people shouldn't have to make on such new vehicles and should be part of a safety recall.
