1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2016

Since 2009, I have been taking my 2005 Yukon denali to both dealerships and other mechanic shops to fix a very hazardous problem. To date, no one has been able to fix the problem. When accelerating from a stop or anytime when traveling between 1- 2-3rd gears, the accelerator will suddenly stop working and the "traction active" light will come on. For approximately 10 seconds, the car will not accelerate. This started happening infrequently - 1 per month - and over the years has become much more frequent - 2-3 times a week. This does not happen when the road conditions change. It can happen at any time under any condition. The scary thing about this is that when you are accelerating from a stop and other cars are accelerating behind you, they don't anticipate that you will stop accelerating (the brake lights do not come on), therefore, they almost rear end me. It is a very dangerous situation. My dealership does not know how to fix it, yet there are complaints all over the internet about this same problem. I have just filed a case with gm for assistance. We will see what they do. I believe a recall is long overdue. While we have not gotten in an accident, that is simply because we have been lucky.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

My 2005 Yukon xl will, at random, shift itself into 4 wheel lo. It happens while driving and at speeds of 30+ mph. All of the lights on the push-button 4wd control module will light up or flash. No amount of button-pushing will disengage 4 wheel drive. I the car will slam to a 5 mph crawl when it does this. Also the traction control system deactivates at the same time. Has happened over 40 times now.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

At the initial start up and the follow on drive selection of the vehicle, the drive selector indicator on the (speedo) speed cluster fails to light up to be able to see the exact gear the vehicle is in. During low light times the indication is barely visible and day light hours you are unable to see the indication to ensure the proper gear of vehicle which could result in selecting wrong gear.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2013

My 2005 GMC Yukon xl 1500 will spontaneously shift itself into 4lo. This doesn't only happen at low speeds. It occurs at all speeds when the vehicle is moving and in gear. When it happens, all of the lights on the push-button 4wd control module will light up or flash. No amount of button-pushing will disengage 4 wheel drive. I have also not come across any sort of manual fix, I. E. Turning off the ignition, taking the vehicle out of gear, backing up, etc. This has happened more than 5 times, and has only ceased to happen because I have removed the relay which controls the 4wd system. I am firmly convinced that it is only through sheer blind luck or divine intervention that no one has been injured while operating this vehicle. Let me restate: this issue occurs entirely at random, and not only when just starting off driving. It occurs at speed! when this happens, the vehicle literally can go from travelling at 35 mph to less than 5 mph. Keep in mind that since the brake is not depressed, following drivers have no warning of this rapid decline in speed. I believe that this is a fundamental defect in gm vehicles using this 4 wheel drive system. I think that the only reason the problem is not seen as more widespread is that the issue happens in differently-named makes and models. For instance, my problem may not be readily connected with the same issue in a Chevrolet suburban, although the two are essentially the same vehicle. Further, I believe that gm is aware that this safety hazard is the result of a manufacturing defect and is unwilling to take responsibility for the problem. A simple internet search of "stuck in 4lo" without identifying a manufacturer, brings up almost exclusively gm-built fullsize trucks using the same push-button system. I don't believe that this is mere coincidence. Here is an opportunity for ms. Barra to show that gm owns up to its errors.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2011

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that after turning the ignition to the on position, the shift lever position indicators did not illuminate. The contact stated that the failure recurred continuously. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 05v055000 (power train). The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. Sg.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2009

The 4 wheel drive intermittently works on our 2005 GMC Yukon xl, therefore you never know in bad whether, in a slippery situation, if its working. I understand that a sensor on these vehicles is failing. In fact the part is on back order, because so many are failing. This is a real safety problem.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2008

My 2005 Yukon 4wd went out. It started as an intermittent problem. The first time I took it to the dealer since it was not currently having problems they were unable to identify the issue. This time it was out for several days before I finally took it in. Although nothing extreme happened, since I was aware of the issue, but if someone was not aware of the issue they could potentially lose control of there vehicle since the traction control system is also disabled in this problem. Replaced the 4wd actuator total bill 762. 00 was also told it could potentially short out the brain box for the 4wd operating system. The first time it happened it was when the weather was cold, never had an issue all summer until now, when the weather turned cold. My vehicle only had 38,000 miles the first time and 52,000 this time. My 1999 Yukon had 158,000 and I never had an issue with it.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2007

While driving our 2005 Yukon xl 2500 series vehicle the service 4wd message will alert from time to time at which point the ability to continue in 2wd is not affected but the ability to transfer into 4wd hi or lo is eliminated. Turning the car off then back on clears the error and systems are again operable. This was fixed before under warranty but the problem still occurs without warning. Problem has occurred in excess of six times over the past two years since purchasing the vehicle new.
