Instrument cluster lighting is controlled by the auto "light sensor". When driving in the direction of the sun, the speedometer and other instruments are unreadable especially if the driver is wearing sunglasses to shade the eyes. I tried to ask the manufacturer about making a service change that would have these instruments always lighted. They have acknowledged the complaint but have no plans to correct the situation.

: the contact stated while driving various speeds during sunny road conditions, the gauges on the instrument panel were not visible due to poor illumination. Also, the pillars on the driver side created blind spots on both sides of the vehicle. It was taken to a service dealer, who determined that they would research the problem to see if there was recall on the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified.
