Carrier/rack problems of the 2008 GMC Yukon - part 1

I have an 2008 Yukon with a cracked dash board in many deferents parts. The cracks are so bad that while driving everything shakes and make all raddling noises. The section around the air bag makes lots of noise. The car has never been in an accident. Just bough the car about a year ago and it was cracked then.

On 06/07/2019 I purchased my 2008 GMC Yukon slt in a private sale with 43k miles on it hardly driven, a well taken care of SUV no cracks in the dash now a month and 1000 miles later I am driving and notice it has a crack in the driver's side of the dash 4" long near the seam in front of the instrument cluster, and a crack in the passenger's side of the dash 2" long at the corner of the airbag. I immediately saw this as a safety issue. The takata air bag inflators are under recall with a status of remedy not yet available according to the carfax I ran and at safercar. Gov making the dash a ticking time bomb with shrapnel as a bonus to possibly injure or kill myself or my wife in the event the air bags deploy the dealership quoted a ridiculous repair price and admitted that a cracked dashes are an issue with the Yukon. A dash cover is nothing but a band aid on a broken leg. I want gm to issue a recall.

There are 3 major cracks on my dashboard, two of which eminate from the passenger airbag opening. I see where there are literally thousands of complaints about this. The dash board now moves up and down and rattles. This is definitely a manufacturers defect which must be addressed by manufacturer through a recall. The cracks just appear out of nowhere. I take exceedingly good care of car but replacing an entire dashboard because of poor design should be covered by manufacturer. Thank you.

The dash is cracked above the control panel. This is the third time the dash has cracked but this time it is substantial.

I love my truck. The only thing that is unsatisfying is my cracked dash from the left side to the right of the truck. The air bag light flashes due to the sides wall and dash board air bag is coming out. I would hate to hit a squirrel and it the air bag pops. I have one window that refuses to come down and last but not least, the dang cruise control only sets after 80mph. I hve to pray everyday not to get a speeding ticket in low speeding areas and the dash board with the sharp edges will not cause more injuries than the airbag if I'm ever in an accident. Please come to some type of agreement foe a recall to fix this matter. Pretty truck outside but the inside clean, crack, and broke up as is it was a fight inside. Help help help bring it back to life.

Have a 2008 GMC Yukon xl 1500 that was bought brand new form dealership. Over the years of ownership have heard a popping or snapping noise on occasions in the front dash panel. Then two weeks ago heard it again then witnessed the dash crack open on the top left side which has caused the dash panel to wiggle free and also cracked at the mounting point. This happened while driving on a major city street. Thought the dash was going to shatter from the noise it made. Had to pull over thank god it did not come out while driving and cause me to wreck. Have seen this reported over and over with these dash panels. Also it reported on the news over the internet from wmcactionnews5. Com. These need to be recalled and replaced before someone gets seriously hurt or worse. The sad part of it all is the dealerships want over $1000. 00 just to replace a part that they know fails and that they have structural issues with and over 100 plus complaints about across America alone.

2008 Yukon 5 cracks across the entire dashboard within 30 days, 3 cracks have formed in 72 hours. One crack appeared while I was at work, in the span of 3 hours. This truck has been regularly maintained and kept in a garage for majority of its life. The cracks are forming so fast that pieces will begin shattering and falling inside. Two cracks have formed next to the passenger side airbag, that has takata inflators- exciting times! my dealership has informed me that GMC will not compensate or assist in remedying this issue- but the dealer will be happy to replace the dash for $1300. 00.

The dashboard is cracked on the passenger side possibly damaging the passenger side airbag. The vehicle was stationary. Came out one morning and it was cracked. Had a friend who had a brand new denali and it happened to his in less than 1 year from purchase.

Received notice of a recall possibility for airbag recall. Dashboard is cracked and could cause an accident if crack pops while driving vehicle.

Top dash board cracked adjacent to air bag thereby possibility interfering with air bag deployment. A safety hazard. A design and manufacturing problem. Not of merchantable quality or fit for the purpose, as these unit are sold throughout the us for all climates,.

Cracked dash board. . . Severe cracking above instrument panel/steering wheel and severe cracking around the passenger side airbag. Issue has already been fixed one time before and this is a recurring issue with the same cracks in the same places.

We have 3 gm suburban and GMC Yukons that all have cracked dashes. I find it hard to believe that all 3 of ours have cracked dashes. There has got to be a problem with the dash board and gm needs to step up and do something about this before some one gets hurts. The dash boards all cracked about 10 months ago .

Cracks all along the dashboard. One all the way up to the instrument panel. One down the center. Several around the passenger air bag. I'm afraid the airbag won't work properly because of the instability of the dashboard frame around it, or that plastic pieces from the dash could come flying off in a wreck. . .

90k miles on my 2008 Yukon denali xl. Dash is cracking in front of instrument cluster on dash. Seems to be a not too uncommon defect. Ive attempted to glue it until it can be repaired.

Dash cracked in 2 places: above driving wheel and around air bag. This is the second time I will have had to replace this part in 2 years. After the first replacement, I had been fairly diligent about using a windshield/dash reflective cover when parked outside, but does not seem to have helped prevent same situation from occurring again with cracks in exactly the same places. Cracks on replaced dash are getting worse and entire dash vibrates and rattles when driving as other attachment pieces seem to be cracking underneath. Similar complaints suggest continued cracking and progression could expose parts under dash, possibly even effect airbag deployment. The quote for parts and labor I received from my local GMC service was $1,000 for parts and labor. Due to the number of gm customers experiencing the exact same thing, this appears to be a faulty component to an otherwise good vehicle, and should be issued a recall and replaced with a dash that lasts substantially longer than 1. 5-2 years.

My dash has cracked about 5 inches above the instrument cluster for no apparent reason. A search reveals this is seemingly a common issue with my year vehicle.

Cracked dash board in several different spots/areas. . A piece has already came out and flew towards my daughters face and bruised her.

My dashboard has a crack across it from the driver side all the way to the passenger side. I think this is unsafe and this vehicle is always park.

Dashboard cracked. This is the 2nd incident to this same vehicle. Dash was previous replaced by dealership. Cracks are in the same area as previous cracks.

Vehicle dashboard cracking around passenger side airbag. Concerned over the possibility of the fracture splintering if the airbag were to deploy and puncturing the airbag and/or sending pieces of hard plastic into the face of passenger and/or other occupants.

Cracks in dash in multiple places. If air bags deploy, possible shards of dash could injure the passenger or driver.

I have two cracks in the dash one on the drivers side behind the steering wheel and the other leading to the passenger side air bag. This seems to be a common issue with GMC vehicles. I have addressed the issue with gm. To no relief.

My dashboard is cracked around the airbag and over the steering column. I am missing a big piece of the dashboard over the steering column. My main concern (other than the horrible rattling noise I have to listen to when I drive) is the cracking of the dashboard around the airbag. The cracking has actually popped the square section of the airbag up. There is also a 6-7 inch broken off piece of dash around the airbag that is just sitting there loosely. What will happen if I am in an accident and have this large piece of loose dash flying around? or, since my airbag cover is popped up, can this cause my airbag to deploy? I took the vehicle to the dealership and they told me that I didn't qualify for a free replacement, that it would cost me $800 to replace myself.

My family's 2008 GMC Yukon has a cracking dashboard cover. This problem started earlier around 100,000 miles but now there is one large crack and one smaller crack above the portion of the dashboard where the instrument cluster is located. I am concerned that eventually this whole portion of the dashboard cover may crack and fall into the dashboard which could possibly affect electrical components located within the dashboard. Also I have noticed some signs of a crack forming next to the passenger side airbag cover. At any point while driving the vehicle I can hear the dashboard cracking and popping loudly.

GMC dash cracking-- filed complaint with gm and srt special response team member took info and did try to work with local dealership but in the end refused to pay to have the dash replaced. If the vehicle is in an accident and the air bad deploys I'm afraid the flying sub par plastic dash parts will become harmful objects. This is and has been an ongoing issue with chevy and GMC products. The dash is actually starting to fall apart and causing visual concerns along with noises from broke pieces rubbing other vehicle parts. . . . If we were to try and sell vehicle this issue would lower the resale value. . We the people helped gm out of there self created problems. . They should help the loyal owners well once loyal---.
