We have been waiting over 3 years for this matter to be put in to an action plan. We drive the noted 2008 Yukon denali daily to and from work as well as take our passengers to school. We are the original owners of the vehicle and wish to request that the air bag noted be scheduled for replacement. We are not comfortable with the noted issues that it may cause and feel that we have been p put in harms way via the knowledge and decison to replace the defective air bag. Please advise when we will be able to receive the new product supply and installation. Tk holdings inc. (takata) has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in the passenger-side frontal airbag inflators installed as original equipment in certain 2007 to 2014 model year Cadillac escalade, escalade esv, and escalade ext vehicles; certain Chevrolet avalanche, silverado 1500, silverado 2500/3500, suburban, and tahoe vehicles; and certain GMC sierra 1500, sierra 2500/3500, Yukon, and Yukon xl vehicles. The determination was made that the propellant in these inflators may degrade after long-term exposure to high humidity and temperature cycling, which could cause the inflator to rupture during a deployment. Safety risk an inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the vehicle interior at high speed, which may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants.
Takata recall has been outstanding since 2016. The risk specifically states: "the propellant in some types of takata airbag inflators can degrade over time, especially after long term exposure in hot and humid regions. If the propellant degrades to a certain level, the inflators may rupture during deployment, causing serious or fatal injuries. " I live in a hot and humid area, and I have a family. I also have a reasonable expectation of safety and reliance upon this vehicle, and considering the cost of vehicles these days, seems like companies would show a bit more love and consideration for their customers. I panic every time I get in my vehicle, just out of worry of what might happen in the event of a collision.
On 06/07/2019 I purchased my 2008 GMC Yukon slt in a private sale with 43k miles on it hardly driven, a well taken care of SUV no cracks in the dash now a month and 1000 miles later I am driving and notice it has a crack in the driver's side of the dash 4" long near the seam in front of the instrument cluster, and a crack in the passenger's side of the dash 2" long at the corner of the airbag. I immediately saw this as a safety issue. The takata air bag inflators are under recall with a status of remedy not yet available according to the carfax I ran and at safercar. Gov making the dash a ticking time bomb with shrapnel as a bonus to possibly injure or kill myself or my wife in the event the air bags deploy the dealership quoted a ridiculous repair price and admitted that a cracked dashes are an issue with the Yukon. A dash cover is nothing but a band aid on a broken leg. I want gm to issue a recall.
Takata inflators : I received a letter sating that my vehicle airbag is under recall and I should contact my local dealership to have them replace them free of charge. I have called them twice since I got the notice and they have told me that I need to contact GMC to find out who the solution to the problem is because as of right now they cannot offer me anything to fix the issue.
Dashboard warning "service airbag" came on several weeks ago. Got a notice from tk holdfings; ref, takata airbag inflators. Checked local dealer for recall info. And found no help. Was told a "fix" was not available. So, why the notification if I cant get my truck repaired under a recall? in the meantime, I've got a warning light on my dash, reminding me that something is wrong with the airbag system. I refuse to pay to have it investigated and repaired, when it has already been recognized as being faulty. What's going on here? does my truck get repaired or not?.
2008 Yukon 5 cracks across the entire dashboard within 30 days, 3 cracks have formed in 72 hours. One crack appeared while I was at work, in the span of 3 hours. This truck has been regularly maintained and kept in a garage for majority of its life. The cracks are forming so fast that pieces will begin shattering and falling inside. Two cracks have formed next to the passenger side airbag, that has takata inflators- exciting times! my dealership has informed me that GMC will not compensate or assist in remedying this issue- but the dealer will be happy to replace the dash for $1300. 00.
Takata recall, front passenger airbag inflators are defective. The inflator can degrade over time , especially after long term exposure in hot and humid regions. Plus my dash is cracking. The dash has cracked so much that the air bag ares is pushed up.
Takata recall - have received notice after notice of recall around takata inflators and dealer specifies they are not authorized to fix? just received legal notice that takata has filed for chapter 11 and dealers will still not fix??.
