The upper dash panel cracked. There is a large crack in the curved portion of the dash above the steering wheel and gauges. The vehicle has not been subject to any extreme temperature changes - it is always parked inside a garage. I went to drive the vehicle after it had been sitting unused for about a week noticed the crack right away as it is very noticeable. Now, when driving there is a very audible rattling noise coming from the dash. Aside from this being aesthetically and audibly hideous, I am worried that this is a safety hazard. If the vehicle were to be involved in a crash the cracked pieces of the dash could more easily injure someone. I also fear the cracked pieces that are rattling inside the dash could puncture the airbags and render them useless in the event of a crash. This is a manufacturing flaw. This should not have happened under the circumstances and care this vehicle receives.
My dash is cracked above the instrument gauges and if the air bag deploys this will have dash board pieces flying in the cabin due to the cracks.
The plastic dashboard is cracked on top of gauge cluster. I am concerned the dash may shatter in a crash if the air bags deploy due to the crack causing the entire dash to be compromised. . This is a safety issue should a airbag deployment happen. I have noticed the dash has been cracked for about a year but didnt find out until today that it has been an ongoing issue with other gm owners.
The top of the dash has two cracks, one behind the gauge cluster and one by the airbag door. This is becoming more and more common on the tahoe, Yukon, escalade and assorted gm trucks in the 2007-2011 range. In some cases, the cracks have gotten quite large and jagged to the point that pieces of the dash are loose and could become projectiles or affect the airbag in the event of a crash. Gm is so far unwilling to assist if people make a complaint to them, although some people have gotten gm to pay for half or more for a replacement dash if they are pushed hard enough. However, there are now reports that the replacement dashes are cracking. And it has been shown that the cracks are not due to chemicals or extreme weather.
2 cracks in dashboard that coincide with so many of the complaints gm has and continues to receive. One is at the top left corner of the airbag dash cap and the 2nd is over the instrument panel/gauges hump of the dash.
