36 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

Brake lights and tail lights stopped working. The led lights have stopped working at 4 years old and 50,000 miles. No option to replace individual bulbs, dealer said the entire light fixture has to be replaced at $665 per each side. Major safety feature not working @ brake lights!!!.

37 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2019

Rear passenger tail light needs to be replaced at a ridiculous cost. Extremely poor engineering design. That is if it wasn't intentionally designed to fail. On the low end $5-600 to replace a tail light??? what a joke. Sad thing is I'm lucky, many many people have had more than one light assembly go out. I've bought gm for my last 3 vehicles (envoy, tahoe, Yukon) this will likely be the last time I ever buy gm.

38 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2019

The contact owns a 2015 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact was alerted by her husband who was driving behind the vehicle, that the rear tail lights were inoperable. The contact was also alerted by other drivers that the rear tail lights were not functioning as needed. The vehicle was taken to sierra blanca motor CO. (304 us-70, ruidoso, nm 88345, (855) 707-6474) to be repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The technician also inspected the lights and stated in the diagnostic report that all lights were working at the time of inspection. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer for the failure however, the second dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact then had her friend, who was a retired authorized GMC technician, inspected the taillights and duplicated the failure. The vehicle was then taken back to sierra blanca motor CO. However, the service advisor inspected the tail lights but offered no assistance. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that they would check with the dealer to see if they could assist with the failure. The manufacturer later informed the contact that they would offer a 25% discount for each light to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 61,835.

39 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2019

The tail lights keep going out even after having them replaced at the dealership. I have been stopped by the police and have actually had to show the invoice were I have had the lights.

40 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2019

All led brake tail lights suddenly failed on right rear of car. Total assembly can not have electronic components/lights replaced and is a sealed unit. GMC price on assembly is approximately $800. Other owners with similar failures tell me this is due to internal corrosion in supposedly sealed assembly.

41 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2019

Passenger brake light intermittently went on and off, the tail light assembly was replaced. Less than 6 moths later the driver's side brake light is doing the same things. Both times have been discovered due to police stops with a car that has less than 75,000 miles. This is a safety issue, review the large amount of complaints for this issue.

42 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2019

I have a 2015 Yukon denali with about 63k miles. My tail lights do not work properly. The driver sign works randomly. At time it works in the day and night others it appears to only work in night time or when the vehicle is not directly in the sun during the day. Yesterday evening I notice the passenger side was out instead of the driver side. I have went to GMC dealership and they all say that the part needs to be place and will cost around $800 for one light. This is a common problem in all gm made vehicles and seems to be more noticeable in GMC Yukons. I have been told by several people my light was out then it pops back on and even the police has stop me for my tail light before. This is a safety issue that could cause warm to me and my family (two small toddler) which I transport to and from school or someone else family due to alot of your customers mainly purchasing this vehicle to transport their families from one place to another. It troubles me that we pay $60k - $70k for these vehicles and the only solution is to replace the light with the same faulty part. This issues happens when park and driving. I live in baton rouge, la and I use the interstate to get to and from work each and every day. I would like to see GMC provide a solution that fixes this issue and not profit off of a bad part but forcing it's customers to constantly have to replace bad tail lights. I love my GMC Yukon and will continue to purchase one as long as I feel I'm getting a quality vehicle for the amount of money I'm paying.

43 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2019

2015 denali with 30k miles (still under manufact warranty) brake lights quit working. Dealership stated tail light assemblies needed to be replaced.

44 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2019

Both drive side and passenger tail brake lights not working. Issue caused by the leds being a 1 large cheap circuit inside the unit. The circuit cracks causing the lights not to work.

45 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

Tail light and brake light assembly is single led strip that has failed after only 4 years. Safety issue that thanks to GMC costs $800 for a single light.

46 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

All the rubber window moldings are curling out under plastic trim both tail lights work intermediately.

47 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2019

Passenger side tail light has been going out intermittently for months. Since the problem began I've been having battery issues and now battery and light are completely dead. Dealer said it would be $800 for light. There was no indicator/sensor that showed the light was out. I found out by another driver who pulled up next to me and told me. Driving around I've seen many vehicles (same model) with the same issue. This is a safety hazard, because unless someone tells us we don't know the light is out and they are prematurely going out. The cost is ridiculous! this is my second GMC and I did not have any problems like this before. This is the car I drive my children around in! it is apparent that it is a manufacturer issue. GMC needs to do right by its customers, before someone gets hurt!.

48 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2019

Passenger side led tail light stopped working. Saw that this problem has been reported on NHTSA many times (over 400) but there has never been a recall. To fix the tail light the entire fixture had to be replaced at dealer for a cost of $900 which is ridiculous. This is a definite safety hazard as there was no indicator to tell me that the tail light and brake light were out! only found out about the problem when a friend was following me home and told me about it. Surprised that there has been neither a voluntary recall by gm or a mandated recall by the NHTSA. Definitely needs addressing. Also, this problem has been reported on 2015-2017 Yukons so there appears to be either a defective part or bad design.

49 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2019

The driver side tail light stopped working. This is the second time the light has stopped worki gon a vehicle with less than 60 thousand miles.

50 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2019

Rear passenger tail light out and passenger window only goes half way down.

51 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2019

Rear tail light leds flicker on and off and eventually stop working causing the entire housing kit to need replacing.

52 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2019

Passenger side tail light stops working occasionally. This affect's the brake light and night driving. It has stopped working up to a week at a time, but then starts working again. It might be weather related.

53 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

One of my led tail lights went out but it randomly comes back on, then off again. When I notified the dealership they mentioned this is occurring a lot on this model and age.

54 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Faulty tail light. Sounds like a common problem on 2015 GMC Yukon.

55 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2019

Tail light circuit (led internal to housing) cracks, causing rail/brake light outage with no warnings on the dash for the driver. This is a material defect in the metal stamping used for the led power circuit. Exacerbated by heat and vibration.

56 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2019

Tail light on 2015 GMC Yukon xl broke on 7/18/19. Authorized gm dealership quoted $902. 57 parts and labor to replace. I complained the price is too high and there is a design flaw with the tail light if it costs that much to replace. Led lights are supposed to last longer. There should be a recall for the tail light. Filed a formal written complaint with GMC customer service on 7/22/19. Purchased 2 new tail lights online from carid. Com for $495. 00 and installed the new tail lights myself. GMC finally replied on 7/31/19 my claim is denied because I installed the replacement tail lights myself and did not have the dealership install. GMC advised if the dealership installed then they would have refunded me $495. 00. What difference does it make who installed the new replacement light? driving around with a broken tail light is a safety issue and also against the law and I had to make a quick decision while it took GMC 9 days to reply and it was by phone - still do not have written confirmation. GMC customer service have a strange procedure whereby you have to have an appointment to speak to a customer service rep. What if you have scheduled a business trip or have to attend a meeting? I have sent a written appeal to GMC protesting their denial decision and at the time of writing have not received a reply. Bottom line is that due to safety issue and it's cause for a traffic citation there should be a recall.

57 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2019

Over the life of owing this new car, from March 2016 to July 2019, the rear passenger and driver side tail light assembly have each failed once and were replaced by my own expense. Again for a third time total, this month the passenger side taillight assembly repeated its failure to have the break light to function. I feel this amount of part failure inside 3 years is too extreme and is due to poor design by the manufacturer. These failed parts happened at 16,000, 30,000 and 50,000 miles of vehicle use. None of the taillight parts were ever physically damaged before. The cost of the part alone is $795. 00. That is even more rediculous considering a home led bulb lasts longer and costs much less.

58 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2019

Tail lights only work intermittently.

59 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

Passenger side rear brake light suddenly stopped working. It is an led light which should never have to be replaced. Our local GMC service department said that it is the 'driver' attached to the led bulb that is faulty, but it cannot simply be replaced. They have to reinstall an entire tail light which apparently is pretty costly. I was quoted $925. Again, nothing wrong with the light bulb itself. Shouldn't cost $925 to fix.

60 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2019

Brake/tail lights have gone out. My car isn't even 5 years old. The repair is astronomicalat least $1500!!!.

61 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2019

Someone who was driving behind me told me my driver's side brake light was out. I checked it with the help of someone else a couple times afterwards and it worked. Then a week or so later a CO-worker told me the same thing, that it was out. I checked it again later and it worked, so the problem was intermittent. When I took it to the dealer, the taillight assembly had to be replaced. I just purchased the vehicle 1/7/2019 and before it was offered for sale the passenger-side tail light assembly was also replaced.

62 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2019

My Yukon 2015 had 62,000 miles in may 2019 when the left tail light went out. Because it is an led light, the part from the dealership average around $700. It was no longer under warranty and I had it replaced in the beginning of June 2019. Today my right rear tail light is now out. Apparently this is a known problem with the 2015 Yukons and GMC will not issue a recall or do anything about it. The part is way overpriced. If this is an issue, it should either be recalled for safety reasons or the part should be made available at a more reasonable price. Spending $1500. 00 for breaklights in one month is wrong. Please someone reach out and help stop this.

63 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2019

Rear tail light went out and the only solution is to replace the tail light? this is nutts.

64 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2019

Replaced passenger tail light due to led failure in 2017. Driver's side failed this week. Full replacement of housing is required, and nothing that I can find states any design improvements have been made to date. This means further replacements of the entire light (part alone is quoted at around $700) will be necessary throughout the life of the vehicle. It appears from a quick internet search that there are a large number of vehicles effected, yet the dealer claims there is not a design issue and no recall has been issued. Given this failure makes the tail light inoperable as well as the brake lights, this is a serious safety issue.

65 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2019

Part of the circuit board in the tail lights was very poorly designed. It is a sealed assembly without serviceable parts. A very thin strip of metal, one at the top, and one at the bottom break due to thermal expansion and contraction. It gives no warning no lights nothing just all the sudden no tail or brake light. It's not right it isn't serviceable, and the dealership charges $400 plus for a new one. What happens if both fail at the same time. G. M. Needs to be held liable, and do the right thing. After all they are supposed to be "professional grade".

66 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2019

The tail light failed with no physical damage. I feel this is a latent defect that gm is aware of but will not take responsibility for it. This a sealed unit causing owners to pay exorbitant amounts to replace the unit. There are many reports of this item failing in the field within an unacceptable time period. Production date on our unit is Apr/24/14, so just over a five year period on a vehicle with less than 80k miles.

67 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2019

Tail/brake lights failed causing a safety concern. Took vehicle in to GMC dealer for repair. Left tail light (actually the entire printed circuit board) was replaced, right is on back order. Vehicle out of factory warranty and even though we had an extended bumper to bumper warranty, the work was not covered. This is a frequent issue, I have discovered on line, according to many owners of GMC suvs and trucks between the 2015 and 2018 models. Cost of repair including both tail lights is 1617. 05. GMC supported me by covering 600. 00 of the cost so I paid 1017. 05 out of pocket for 2 tail lights that should not have failed. I have only 24554 miles on the vehicle and have never had an accident. Additional to that, the 2 front seat belts are fraying which may lead to weakness eventually causing a safety issue. I want GMC to cover all costs related to repair of these two problems. There should be a recall regarding both. Seat belt problem has been on going for months and the tail light thing just happened on Monday, June 17, 2019.

68 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2019

Both led tail light units on 2015 GMC Yukon failed within 6 months of each other. The led stripping no longer illuminates. Exact same problem on both driver and passenger sides of vehicle. Was informed by dealership the only option for repair is replacement of the entire light at a cost of over $900 per tail light.

69 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2019

The tail light failed with no physical damage. L. E. D. Failure no tail light or brake light. Bulbs are not replaceable & the whole tail light needs to be replaced.

70 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2019

Both of the vehicle tail lights have become nonoperational due to a manufacturing defect. Brake lights do not work. The tail lights are a complete assembles and consist of leds.
