1 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2025

The led left turn signal and blind spot detection ( safety feature) on the left outside rear view mirror suddenly stopped working. The is a TSB for warranty for 2016-2018 gm Yukon (#10-08-64-002d) and it states that the bulletin has been revised to include 2016-2018 year models for this defect. I am starting this claim because I am told by gm that my VIN is not covered under this warranty, yet I am experiencing the same issue stated in the TSB listed above.

2 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2024

Both driver and passenger tail light/ brake light assemblies have failed. They started intermittently going out and then failed all together. There is a very common issue with these lights. They have been replaced at an approximate cost of $650. 00 per light.

3 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2023

The oem led taillights can fail due to a manufacturing deficiency. A metal strip that connects the led's to the cars taillight circuit develops a crack and interrupts current flow to the taillight led's. The above is common knowledge to the car community and is searchable on line. Concerns: 1) if both taillights are failed at the same time the vehicle doesn't have any of the required visible markings, especially at night. 2) from an economic point of view, unlike vehicles that use incandescent light bulbs that are easily replaced when burnt out, these led light assemblies have to be completely replaced to the cost of several hundred dollars plus labor which could/will lead to the neglecting of this repair because of the economics. 3) unlike incandescent bulbs, led's are should last much longer to the point of outlasting the life of the vehicle. This isn't the case when there is a manufacturing defect. In my case on 10/21/21 the defective taillight assemblies was replace under a defective taillight extended warranty agreement. I requested to have both replaced because of the odds of the second one failing. They refused. So when the opposite side assembly failed recently I was out of the extended warrant date resulting in a cost to me of $392. 88 labor included. In conclusion, the well documented failure of the above taillight assemblies leads to vehicles being non conforming to fmvss.

4 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2023

The rear taillights both went out due to a design issue with the led circuit board - where the connections on the board crack and cause the lights to fail.

5 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2023

There is a special policy to replace faulty tail lamps. However, the policy is only extended through 72,000 miles or 5 years which is ridiculous, and should be a recall. I had my drivers side tail lamp replaced in February 2022 because it was not working. I wasn’t aware of the mileage and year restrictions at that time. Fast forward to today, I have my passenger side tail lamp intermittently working. Now out of the specific time frame, I’m left to encounter this expense out of my own pocket. Clearly gm is aware of the problem, but has not issued a recall on the tail lamp issue. It’s not just a burned out brake light, but apparently an electrical issue with the way they were initially wired. This is a very dangerous situation, as I have no idea if and when my brake light is out. God forbid if they were to go out and I were to be rear ended due to gms lack of taking responsibility.

6 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2023

Both rail lights went out at the same time. No reason whatsoever.

7 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2022

R rear taillight and brake light does not work and no indicator light to warn me. Do not know how long its been out. Afraid to drive. Had it checked and found special policy n182180270 . I contacted dealer and they said it would be $69. 00 to just verify issue. Contacted manufacture and was told it was out of coverage by less than 100 days. The vehicle has less than 40,000 miles and stays in garage. Case # 9-8269822 they said it had to be inspected by dealer that is a 40 mile round trip though traffic with no brake light , not safe especially when the instructions on the policy states just to turn light on and verify if it works ,if not replace unit.

8 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2022

Left tail light flickers, after reading internet comments learned that tail light board connections are made of very flimsy metal material, they crack with normal vehicle operations. Led lamps are fine but the power connections to the lamps breaks therefore it renders taillights useless. Replacement cost of those lamps are $700-$800 parts alone. On the internet there is some information I’ll attach that pdf.

9 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2022

Passenger taillight goes out. Replaced it twice now and now I have to do it again a 3rd time. They know of this issue but have done nothing to fix it or offer anything to help cover cost.

10 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2022

The drivers side rear brake lights stopped working. Gm did a warranty extension ( that admits an issue). But ours just expired. . This is an $800 to $1000 repair that owners should not have to pay. . Gm refuses to cover this expense. This is an absolute saftey issue. Of course, any law enforcement officer will agree as they will write a safety violation ticket (as they should) I understand that owners are responsible for all maintenance of their vehicles, but this issue is a flaw in design. Most owners ( like us) can’t afford to pay this outrageous price for a simple break light replacement. As the entity of government that oversees the manufacture of these vehicles, there must be a safety recall!! honestly, I am disappointed that no safety recall hasn’t been ordered for this issue. This problem is going to result in many many rear end accidents. Please fix this and save lives. 11 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2022

Passage tail, brake light works when it want. One day it work the next day it don’t! I’m scared that I will get pulled by the police or somebody hit me in the back.

12 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2022

My issue pertains to a known problem. The driver's side tail light has failed. Gm issued special coverage adjustment n182180270 because of this issue where the part was covered for up to 6 years or 72k miles. Mine failed after 6 years and 4 or 5 months at 66k miles. It's utterly ridiculous that a defective, $800 light is fine to break after 6 years with no warranty assistance.

13 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2022

The driver’s side brake light assembly failure of no brake light when brake is applied. It can be inspected upon request. This may cause another driver to not notice intentions to stop or slowdown and cause an accident. This problem is constant. It has not been inspected. No warnings of the failure has been displayed.

14 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2022

The passenger brake light intermittently stops working.

15 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2022

Last month the passenger tail light stopped working. We took it out not realizing that you have to replace the entire unit. So we put the tail light back in and it magically started working again. Then yesterday the driver's side tail light stopped working, so we did the same. Took it out, waited and put it back (since we know we can't just run to the store and get a new one), except this time it didn't start working. I know there's a recall on the tail lights but I can't seem to find anyone to help me. The vehicle is only 6 years old and the tail lights at $800 each, should last a lot longer than that!.

16 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2021

Both brake/tail lights intermittently not functioning.

17 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2021

Driver side, rear lighting fixture not working. All lights for brakes, reverse, do not work. I had to replace the entire light assembly on the passenger side previously.

18 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2021

The rear lights on my vehicle - including brake lights - intermittently stop working. I was unaware of this issue until I had someone follow me to my destination to make me aware. This is extremely dangerous that could lead to a wreck with the potential of bodily injury. GMC has issued a service bulletin (admitting to using faulty parts) related to this problem, however, they have limited the coverage to mileage and year. GMC should be required to issue a full recall on any vehicle impacted by this serious safety concern.

19 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2021

Led tail light unit continues to crack (metal inside) and not work. Each replacement is over $500. You have to replace or you’ll be ticketed because it is a safety hazard. It is not a bulb replacement it is a faulty design that is costing people thousands to fix and it’s not right. GMC is aware of this defect and they aren’t doing anything about it. Please help and recall these taillights to be replaced by the updated lights!! thank you for your time and consideration.

20 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2021

The taillights, which included both the brake lights and running lights, quit working or only worked intermittently. Safety was put at risk because anytime we drove the vehicle in the dark (which is often!) the rear of the vehicle could not be seen, and the brake lights would not be activated when braking would occur, either day or night. This made us more likely to be in an accident, in my opinion, though thankfully we were not. Our regular mechanic did confirm that the lights were only working only intermittently, thought he did not have a solution but for replacing them, which would cost $800 a piece. There was no warning for this problem, the issue first appeared a year ago and we've been dealing with it since. I was finally able to purchase remanufactured taillights.

21 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2021

Passenger side brake light not working. Bulb replacement not available to purchase and you have to take to dealership for $800 plus repair. 72k miles on vehicle.

22 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2021

Gm issues a specials service campaign n182180270 tail lights inoperative, goes to 72000 miles the subject vehicle has 75000. Both rear tail brake lights do not work and the third brake light.

23 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2021

GMC has a bulletin “recall” that stated that the tail lights of their vehicles were not illuminating on vehicles. In 2019 we took our vehicle in to have the defect covered because our passenger tail light stopped working. We are now having the same issue with our driver light but they are stating that the recall only covered one light with knowledge that both lights are defective. Only one light was replaced. They also had a recall on a defective air compressor that we paid $580 for but because of mileage it was not covered. I spoke with a rep by the name of angellica in the complaint department that confirmed that the letters regarding the air compressors were sent in November of 2017 and I did not receive that notice during that time. I purchased the vehicle in April of 2017. If any part of a vehicle is defective, or poorly made coverage should not end and defective parts should be replaced. We are looking to be reimbursed for repairs and coverage provided for the second light on our vehicle. Gm refuses to resolve this issue and is placing my family in danger with defective parts on this vehicle. I am looking for this to be resolved as soon as possible. This is poor business and the quality of this vehicle that is 5 years old is poor. Attached you will see the invoice from the dealer states that the wiring is bad but coverage was expired due to mileage. If defective parts are in a vehicle there should not be a limitation on getting them replaced. Gm made this mistake and it needs to be corrected.

24 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2021

My 2016 Yukon denali passenger brake light has stopped working. I see there are many other complaints identifying the same issue - question why hasn't GMC issued a recall for a known problem. With the circuit board breaking this is obviously a manufacturing issue that needs to be addressed and is most definitely a safety issue and increases the odds of being rear-ended as a result of inoperative brake lights. Fortunately I had a stranger stop me in a store parking lot to let me know the brake light was out. The repair is $800 at the dealer!.

25 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2021

The brake light led panel stopped working on one side and goes out intermittently in the other side.

26 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2021

The contact owns a 2016 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that the passenger’s side taillight was inoperable. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 19v761000 (service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes, electronic stability control) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.

27 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2020

The rear lights keep going out, I was told by the dealership that I would have to pay to replace them because my vehicle mileage is outside of the extended warranty. This is a common issue among the 2016 GMC Yukon's and I do not think it is fair that I have to cover the repair.

28 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2020

Rear passenger side red led light doesn't work. Have to replace the whole light assembly which is a lot of money.

29 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2020

My passenger side taillight works sometimes, and other times it does not. I took it in to be checked out to find out a replacement is 800. 00 as the taillight needs to completely be replaced not just a bulb. I have seen several vehicles like mine with the same issue and have also read many others experiencing the same issues. This has also been stated at dealership this is a known problem, but no recall. How can this not be a recall issue. This is a safety issue and needs to be fixed by gm.

30 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2020

Taillight on drivers side goes out. It's been an intermittent issue as it comes on and goes out.

31 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2020

Both head lamps have moisture and it is hard to see the road. I have extended warranty and it will not cover lenses. No warranty will. Eventually the moisture will hard the led and hid components and they will not work at all causing a hazard to my family and others. My car has 37000 miles on it and is garage kept. These lamps are over $2000. 00 to replace.

32 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2020

Brake and taillight are going on and off intermittently. I can hit the side of the taillight and it will blink on and off sometimes. Looked up online and found it is a well known issue that GMC will not fix. This is a safety hazard.

33 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

My vehicle is only three years old. The right rear led taillight has failed. The taillight no longer works. It does not work with the daytime running lights or when you press on the brake. This is a known issue with the 2016 GMC Yukons. The dealership wants $900. 00 to replace the entire light housing.

34 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2019

Left and right brake/running lights work intermittently. Occasionally one side will work and the other doesn't and vise versa. More often than not, neither side works. Gm knows about this defect and refuses to correct the problem that their manufacturing caused. This is a major safety concern as my wife and three young children use this vehicle on a daily basis.

35 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2019

Rear led taillight went out our only 3 year old 2016 GMC denali. This effects the stop, tail, and turn lights. These led lights are not repairable and the whole assembly has to be replaced. Gm charges an astronomical price of around $700 for each side. It is very hard to find any used ones and according to part dealers gm has a bounty on any used ones to turn back in. Obviously gm is aware of this problem and needs to address it as not only as good customer relations but it's really a safety issue as well.
