Brake lights cuts on and off when driving and third brake light is off on my 2016 vehicle also when step on brakes pedal sometimes goes to floor vehicle hard to stop a for sure dangerous situation.

6 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2020

I have already had to replace right brake light due to going out and now the left one has went out. These are very expensive lights. They are faulty and need to be recalled.

7 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2020

The rear tail lamps sporadically would light up with driving lights for awhile, but could never get failure to show up for dealer diagnosis. Finally lights went out completely except for side marker. When the brake lights would not work, car was not drivable. Dealer was then able to diagnosis and found short in led light circuit board assemblies has gone bad and both lights would need replacement. Lamps were replaced under 80/20 warranty offer. Total out of pocket cost to me/consumer: $492. 75. I feel this is safety issue on newer model vehicle and lights service life should be much longer than 4 years. Especially since car was not drivable for 4 weeks because of concern with no brake lights, no rear lights at dark and chance of being stopped for a traffic infraction.

8 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

Right rear led taillight is intermittently not working. Not sure why it works at times, and not at other times, but when the taillight is not working neither is that brake light. This started about August 1, 2020.

9 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

The led brake light stopped working due to faulty circuit.

10 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2020

Both sides brake lights stop working intermittently then come back on again.

11 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2020

My left driver's side brake light would work and then not work and I had multiple people telling me my left brake light was out. Then other days I was told it was working again. Now it is not working at all.

12 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2020

My brake lights will work one minute and go out the next. I had a friend and my husband tell me that when they were following me the light was out when I stopped but at the next stop or at home it would work. This has been happening for months. Last week I took it for state inspection and the inspector said it was out I had to get it replaced. When I pulled forward it started working again to pass inspection. Today I took my Yukon to the dealership for an oil change and it went out again. Others waiting told me this is a recall on other year/models with GMC. There is a short in the circuit panel.

13 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2020

My car has 60,000 mi on a 2016. The rear brake light went out on passenger side and I am being told by dealer I have to replace the complete assembly- not just a bulb. Estimated cost is $800. 00 for one side. In researching I have found this issue is not uncommon. This is ridiculous for what should be the cost of a bulb.

14 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2020

Both of my led tail lamp assemblies have failed over the pas year. GMC has replaced that oem with new parts and has MD the old parts. Generally, if a break light fails you can replace the bulb for around $5 but when these assemblies fail it costs the owner around $700 to replace. Driving around without brake lights is a traffic violation. A car can not pass safety inspection without brake lights so the owner is forced to pay the money for the replacement part from which GMC profits. . Why is this not a safety recall? GMC knows it is a manufacturing defect that can possibly cause a serious accident as a result. What is the NHTSA stand on this?.

15 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2020

Passenger taillight, running light/brake light led strip not working.

16 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2020

Led brake light circuit broken - brake light doesn't illuminate.

17 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2020

Passenger side rear brake light working intermittently. Taken to dealer twice for issue and was working when dealer checked it. 90,000 miles on vehicle so well out of warranty. Drove home from dealer. . . Stopped working on way home. Started working next day. Part is $600-800 for something that is clearly a manufacturer defect. I don't consider a circuit board that cracks in the same place on many same model vehicles (as per internet forums) to be "normal wear and tear". Gm won't do anything about it. This is clearly a safety issue. Brake light is a series of leds on a thinly printed circuit board.

18 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2020

Brake light taillights intermittent turns on and off.

19 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2020

The brake light is out. All other lights are working, but the brake light. It just stopped working. I have been told this is a normal thing for the GMC. I can not just change a bulb, they said I had to replace the entire light kit for a $850.

20 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2020

Brake lights stopped working almost was plowed into by 18 wheeler on I-75. Driver waved us over and informed us that he did not see us till right on top of us. Problem appears to be systemic enough that the GMC service department told us that it was common enough that they kept the brake lights in stock. Additionally there are numerous threads about this issue on the internet and even utube videos on where to remove material to access the offending circuit board to repair the known faulty circuit. The failure of these brake lights could have cost my family and me our lives. The dealership wanted to charge 1600$ to replace the brake lights. I reiterate the brake light failure is common enough that there are numerous threads on the internet to discuss the known weakness of the circuit board.

21 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2020

Tl-the contact owns a 2016 GMC Yukon. The contact recieved a letter from the manufacturer with the brake light to have it diagnosed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer covert Buick GMC 11750 research blvd ste d, austin, TX 78759 (512) 371-6075. And they said there was nothing wrong with the rear brake lights. They disregarded the letter and said they checked the brake light and said again everything was working fine. The manfacturer had not been contacted yet. The issue has recurred several more times since the vehicle was releashed to a dealer. The contact got a same second opinion from an idependnet mechanic. The vehicle currently was still unrepaired . The dealer would not sell the contact the part to repair it herself. The failure mileage was 77,655. Tf.

22 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2020

Brake light on vehicle works intermittently and is no longer safe. This is a problem GMC is well aware of and no solution in sight. Cheap metal board brakes inside the lens and leaves you with no brake light. I do not want my family to be rear ended because of this professional grade? brake light failure, at any time on road. This is a 2016 GMC Yukon with 22710 miles as I write. Brake light has failed while moving on the city streets. This failure is currently on the passenger side brake light. Trying to make appointment for repair of this professional grade brake light? before the other one brakes and put my family at risk of a accident.

25 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2019

I purchased my 2016 Yukon xl denali used with 40k miles. I have had the vehicle less then a week and have had several people tell me that I have a brake light out on the passenger side, but every time I stop and have it looked at its working just fine. The cost to replace it is approximately $700 for each assembly. After some research I have found that there are a lot of people having this issue and that GMC is aware of this issue but won't do anything about it. I'm afraid that I might be rear ended because the lights decide not to work at that moment.

26 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2016 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated while driving at various speeds the right brake light failed to illuminate. There were no warning indicator lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to patriot Buick GMC Hyundai 2001 se washington blvd, bartlesville, ok 74006 (918) 347-4045 where informed the vehicle failed to meet the mileage qualification for satisfaction program. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted however no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 88,000. Ap.

27 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2019

Brake lights are shorting out causing them to work intermittently. Circuit is broken inside the sealed portion of the light preventing repair.

28 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2019

The contact owns a 2016 GMC Yukon xl. While the vehicle was parked, the contact's wife noticed a leak entering the cabin from the overhead antenna. There were no warning indicators illuminated. Also, while pulling into the driveway and depressing the brake pedal, the contact's neighbor informed him that all the rear brake lights (rear driver and passenger side brake lights and tailgate brake light) were not functioning. The vehicle was taken to north county Buick GMC (located at 1515 auto park way n, escondido, CA 92029, (866) 852-7135) where it was diagnosed that the overhead antenna and all three brake lights needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the rear driver's side brake light and antenna were repaired, but the other brake lights were still not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failures. The failure mileage was 61,000.

29 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2019

The tailight/brake light keep going bad. It works half the time. I will check it and it's working then I hit a bump and people tell me it's not working. I hit another bump I look and it working. After replacing it once already has the exact same problem and they want another $1000 to fix it but the dealer told me GMC now has a better replacement for it. If they have a better built option then GMC should be made to change lights on all of them before some one gets killed.

30 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2019

Left rear brake light failed in April, 2019, dealer estimate to replace, $709. 86, after some heated discussion, "warranty from GMC reduced the bill to $186. 49,326 miles when light replaced. 15 September 2019, mileage 54,290, the right brake light failed and was ordered by dealer, estimate to repair $709. 86, part did not come in in 30 days, so I called GMC tech assist service (866-790-5600 and spoke with "chris" who opened a case #9-5587262688. This was passed to GMC's jessica at (866-790-5600 ext. 591-5759. Contacting her proved difficult and the part still did not show up. Finally, on 18 November, 2019 the dealership called and said they had the part and installed it on 19 November, 2019, vehicle milage now 59,061. Dealer charged $418. 00. For the light and work showing a total cost of $709. 86 and my repair cost "copay" being $418. 00 with the GMC warranty supposedly picking up the difference. Two more attempts to contact "jessica", 22 Nov. @ 12:30 p. M. , and 26 Nov. @ 1425 got no response. Finally contacted her on 02 Dec. And she was unaware the part had shipped but found the record and said that the from $709. 86 to $418. 00 was the only thing they could do and that I had no recourse. She did offer to have her supervisor call me and said she would record my dislike of the settlement. She could not or would not attempt to explain why there was such a huge difference in the price between the lights or the amount that the GMC warranty would cover. Looking online, I note that have been many thousand of complaints about this from the 2015 through the current 2019 GMC denali and Yukon model vehicles. Should GMC not put out a safety recall for these failed brake lights? there is no indication in the driver's compartment that they are out. If not possible, are they covered under a "lemon law" or is this just another case of GMC has got you? david v. Park.

31 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2019

The passenger side brake light stopped working with no indication on the instrument panel. This appears to be a common problem for model years 2015 thru 2019 due to a design/manufacturing defect. The repair involves replacing the entire taillight assembly for about $800. The dealer will not repair under warranty after 2 years or 24,000 miles even though it is a safety related defect. There is not a safety recall at the present time. My vehicle is over 2 years old but only has 20,000 miles.

32 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Drivers brake light shorts out and stops working.

33 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2019

Rear driver's side brake light is inoperable. My vehicle is less than 3 years old. If my local police department views this as a problem, so should the NHTSA. GMC needs to recall this known problem. How many people have to report this problem for it to be addressed? this is a safety issue!!!.

34 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2019

The led brake lights fail intermittently and then completely due to a design flaw of weak circuitry. The led circuit breaks from fatigue in the brake light housing. There is no dash notification to tell you when a brake light has failed. Gm replacement brake lights cost $650 each but they have the same design flaw. Pictures attached.

35 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2019

Rear passenger brake light has stopped working. Took into dealership and it appears GMC does not cover under warranty. It appears that there are numerous reports of rear brake light issues with GMC vehicles, specifically Yukons but GMC continues to indicate this is not a problem.
