Customer stated to dealer that brakes are still not 100% responsive, and that brakes will pulse a few times when pressed and before the vehicle actually starts to stop. 41 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2019

Over the last several years, we have been hearing this clicking sound in our 2016 GMC Yukon xl. Additionally, we had experienced occasional times where the vehicles brakes would not function properly mostly in slower speed situations. In the last several weeks, the short range braking was hindered again as the break would stick and not slow the car. Several close instances of hitting either another car or family member. I then looked up on NHTSA if any recalls, and I noticed a recall which described exactly what we had been experiencing. We took the vehicle into the dealership yesterday and they told my wife it was fixed and sent her on her way to pick up my 5 children from school. A few hours later, the car just wouldn't break and my wife called me to actually go to the location on my child's practice so I could drive it home as she didn't trust the vehicle any longer. I took the vehicle back to the dealer the next day. Upon their inspection, they said the vacuum pump was faulty and would cost $500 to fix. Then I started to investigate further, and to my surprise, there appears to be a long standing issue with 2014-16 gm vehicles that have had faulty vacuum pumps. However, these haven't been recalled yet. The review also led me to the conclusion that the clicking sound we would hear appears to be related to this faulty part. Unfortunately for me, my miles are beyond the warranty period but this has been a persistent issue for a long time. Basically, it feels as if my family's safety was secondary while this known issue with the vacuum pump remained silent. We bought this vehicle for the safety, dependability, and planned to use it up to 200,000+ miles. I am disappointed that a safety issue like the brakes would effectively be undisclosed to me as a car owner. I am hopeful gm will do all that is necessary to rectify our discomfort and lack of trust.

42 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2019

I had the recall (n192268490) applied to my Yukon on 12 Sep. I only experienced the problem described in the recall 2x prior to the recall. Since the recall I have had multiple incidents much worse than than the original problem. Tonight the brakes were so bad I over shot my parking spot and drove into some bushes. If a hard structure was there I would have damaged the car. This problem is repeatable. No warning lights come on but the "grade breaking on" light will come on. The break pedal was very soft and shuttered. I emphasize this is new since the recall was implemented.

43 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2016 GMC Yukon xl. While driving approximately 30 mph, the brakes malfunctioned and caused the vehicle to crash into the rear of another vehicle. There were no injuries. A police report was filed. Prior to the crash, the brake vacuum pump was replaced, but the brakes did not function properly. The vehicle was later serviced at mick donald's GMC(5155 state st, saginaw, mi) per NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000(service brakes) in which the electronic brake control module was reprogrammed. Afterwards, the brakes operated normally. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2016 GMC Yukon. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000(service brakes, hydraulic). The contact stated the remedy should be replacement of the engine vacuum pump, instead of reprogramming the electronic brake control module. The contact stated he has not experienced any failure. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had been aware of his concerns. The failure mileage was 10,000. Dp.

45 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2016 GMC Yukon. While accelerating from a stop, the vehicle jerked and accelerated independently without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the vacuum pump failed and needed to be replaced. The contact was informed to take the vehicle to a GMC dealer. The vehicle was later taken to jim taylor Chevrolet (139 grimshaw st, rayville, la 71269, (318) 303-6475) where a driving test was performed; however, the technician could not replicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

46 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2019

While in slow traffic, I pressed brakes to stop. The brake peddle did not compress down, causing me to have to enter the highway median to keep from striking the vehicle in front of me. The median was wet and muddy. Our Yukon had to be pulled from the median by a good samaritan.

47 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2019

When in traffic at slow speeds the brake system shuts down and takes my body weight to stop car. Had checked and no visible leak. Now GMC has a fix but charge to fix if over warranty mileage. Second issue is the transmission went at 96,000 miles while highway driving loosing all top end gears at 65 mph. GMC did nothing but dealer helped on tho as well.

48 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2019

A car braked in front of me going around 40 miles per hour. I was unable to stop in time and rearended them. This car is part of the gm recall for brakes.

49 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2019

Vehicle in motion and brakes would not work unless you put all your body weight on the brakes, and then just barely. Happened multiple times on and off both at high rate of speed on highway and on city streets. Took into GMC dealership and they replaced the vacuum pump for the brakes -- problem solved after spending $800. We are lucky this is a major safety issue that could have caused a serious accident. I understand this exact problem is a known problem currently being investigated. Please finish your investigation quickly and issue a recall -- somebody is going to get killed if this is not fixed. I look forward to being reimbursed from GMC when the recall is finally issued.

50 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

My 2016 GMC Yukon xl recently began having a hard brake pedal when reversing out of parking spots, or when rolling downhill. A couple of times, when rolling forward downhill it malfunctioned causing me to run into a ditch. . The hard brake pedal had caused me to not be able to stop the vehicle several times. It would roll backwards (or forwards) until I shifted it in to gear or gave it gas. A few times I almost hit vehicles and pedestrians in my son's school carpool lane. There is no warning. No check engine light. Just the horrible rock hard brake pedal which turns out to be a faulty vacuum pump per napa jimmy vasser Chevrolet, that has now cost me $711. 00 because it is not covered under warranty. My car has 54,000 miles on it. This is unacceptable.

51 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2019

Vacuum pump went out on my vehicle resulting in almost being hit by a semi traveling 65mph. I had to call a wrecker to pick up my vehicle and have it towed to the dealership as it was no longer safe to drive. I paid out of pocket for the wrecker and the repair because the vacuum pump was no longer covered under warranty at 38,633 miles. I was leaving a driveway at a slow speed to turn onto a farm to market road and my brakes would not work.

52 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2019

Faulty break lights. The led circuit is faulty and cracks which requires the entire light assembly to be replaced.

53 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2019

Third time this happened, first two times my husband was driving(he called the dealership and they said they had not heard of any problems) and when it happened to me it was scary. I had my kids in the car, no injuries and no one was hurt, thank god. I was going through the drive thru stopped at the first window, accelerated to next window (low speed) and didn't stop. . . It was the like the brakes locked up, couldn't press down at all. Called the dealership first thing in the morning, same thing didn't know of any issues. Well I googled it and it is under investigation, so I kindly printed off all the articles so they could let other customers know there was an issue (they didn't care to keep that but did admit they knew there had been some issues). Of course my car is just out of warranty so they said I would be responsible for any issues. Again, this is a safety issue and there should be a recall!!! they should be paying for it and thanking there lucky stars no one was injured. The total came to $950, they asked if I wanted them to fix the pump, belt and belt kit (I asked if this was the issue others were having and he said he believes so). What was I going to say no? did I really have an option?? the brakes weren't working!!!! kind of a big deal!! of course I would like them to pay me back (they did give me a credit of $208) but I do believe they need to do a recall before someone gets hurt.

54 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

When pressing the brake petal at low speeds and in bumper to bumper traffic the brake pedal becomes very hard to press and very difficult to get the vehicle to stop. This problem also is noticed when backing the vehicle in reverse and into a parking spot.

55 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2018

The vehicle has experienced at slow speed or backing a solid/stuck brake pedal that wouldn't move. The pedal was basically stuck, not moving at all. This occurred coming to a stop at like an intersection or as stated backing out of a parking spot. It felt as if the truck wouldn't stop and no matter how hard the pedal was pushed it wouldn't move for a few seconds.

56 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2018

Brakes get very hard to push and do not work well when going slow speeds or backing up. Unable to even fix as I have been told the part is on national back order! so I'm stuck trying not to crash with faulty vacuum brake part! left rear seat motor works, but small plastic part broke so seat worn move and is stuck in one position.

57 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2018

Beginning around 70k miles, my wife complained of brakes not working at low speed in parking lots, especially in reverse, with very hard pedal, occasional occurring. While I was driving, occurred multiple times at gas station at very low speed during stop over on a long road trip at 80k miles. Upon taking to gm dealership for another issue, gm service technician verified the concern. Vacuum pump replaced on 12/14/18. Few miles since but test driving has not had another occurrence. Vehicle failure confirmation and repair done at joe bowman Chevrolet in harrisonburg, va.

58 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2018

Attempted to slow down by stepping on brakes but the pedal was extremely stiff and there was no stopping action. Had to almost stand on the brake pedal with all my force to get the vehicle to stop before almost hitting the vehicle in front. We had the vehicle towed to a dealer and they said the brake booster pump had failed and needed replacement.

59 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2018

1. Loss of braking function and could not stop vehicle, loss of control of vehicle on highway and street at speeds of 70 mph. Brake vacuum pump was confirmed defective at dealership 10/17/18. 2. After repair by dealerships brakes did not function correct again, confirmed and stated on dealership invoice 6/28/19 same part number was defective again, dealership that conducted repair on 10/17/19 repaired defective brake with the same defective part. There was another brake issue with the braking system in February as well. 3 brake issues under 1 year and repeat defective part used in dealership for repair. Multiple dates below but 10/17/19 specifies date confirmed at gm dealership ed rinke.

60 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2018

Brakes do not work at low speeds. GMC told me that the parts had been bought back by gm and there was no way to fix it 8 months ago and now they state there is a special warranty added except my mileage is over the warranty! brakes either are hard as a brick to push or/and don't work at all. I was told to rev the engine when going slow or backing up in order to make the brakes function properly. That was the advice for a mother of 4 children. Ac is also blowing hot air.

61 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2018

GMC Yukon 2016 rear lights are defective. This is the 2nd time they have gone out and it is not a quick fix to replace. Cost is approximately $750 to replace a light that will go out again due to poor manufacturing and quality. The first time it went out was only a year after purchase. This is the 2nd time it has gone out and is not d=covere under warranty. These lights are not made to last a decent amount of time. There are numerous issues reported regarding these rear lights.

62 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2018

When starting and stopping (depressing the brake pedal multiple times) such as at a left turn (waiting for traffic) or a drive-thru window, the brakes stop working and the car rolls forward even when the brake is depressed. If you press really hard it will usually stop- but it definitely rolls forward when you are trying to stop. The dealership says that a vacuum pump is faulty but this could result in an accident as I almost rolled into oncoming traffic while waiting in line to turn left at a "left turn yield on green light".

63 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2018

2016 GMC Yukon xl c1500 sle. Consumer writes in regard to safety recall notice n192268490 issues with power brake assist.

64 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2017

While exiting the ohio turnpike, my brake pedal began to stop depressing completely- to the point where I couldn't push down at all. It felt like an over-pumped keg. As I continued my exit toward the toll booth, it seemed that the abs were engaging, but I wasn't in an emergency braking situation. The rest of my journey home was uneventful, until I arrived home. I pulled into my garage, and attempted to back out so I check under the vehicle to make sure there wasn't anything leaking. As I backed out, my brakes would not engage properly again and my car rolled back down my drive way. The car stopped and I parked it where it was. Later in the day, I was able to pull the car into my garage without incident. I took the car to chesrown GMC (the dealership where I purchased the vehicle). They advised they had never heard of such a situation and had me being vehicle to them. I couldn't replicate the issue with them, but left the car with them so they could check it out for issues. They replaced the the brake vacuum pump. Today (7/31/17), the brakes started to behave in the same manner as when they failed on 7/16/17.
