1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2025

The on star module no longer working. This is a safety feature included in the manufacturing of the vehicle.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2025

The driver-side headlight and turn signal on my 2022 GMC Yukon stopped functioning completely. This issue began before gm recall 22v?903 and worsened immediately after the recall repair was performed. The recall repair required three separate dealership visits because it was initially performed improperly, yet the problem was never fully resolved. During interactions with gm and the dealership, I was told the repair might involve a $600 part, but they could not guarantee that replacing it would fix the issue. It is unreasonable and unsafe for me to be expected to cover the cost of repairs for a problem that was caused or worsened by a recall repair performed incorrectly. The malfunction creates a serious safety hazard, as oncoming drivers cannot see my turn signals, and I nearly had an accident because of it. The problem has been confirmed by the dealership and documented in gm case #74327012. Prior to complete failure, the driver-side turn signal and daytime running lights occasionally stayed on after shutting off the vehicle which I was told that was caused by the recall. The vehicle has been inspected by authorized gm dealerships multiple times, but the defect persists. The component is available for inspection upon request.

Failure Date: 05/08/2025

I’m filing this complaint regarding my 2022 GMC Yukon denali (VIN: [xxx] , msrp ~$76,805) with an unresolved l87 engine recall. I made an appointment at my local GMC dealership on 5/8/25 specifically for the l87 recall. Upon arrival, staff only documented the serial data gateway module recall, which I hadn’t even known about. When I mentioned the 6. 2l engine, I was asked if I was “sure. ” I believe I was treated dismissively because I’m a woman. After pushing back, staff pulled up the bulletin, confirmed my engine needed replacement, and told me to “drive it until it blows up or there’s a fix, whichever comes first. ” the l87 was only added to my receipt after I insisted—it was falsely listed as an “added operation,” though it was the reason I came in. I sent a certified letter to gm on 5/12/25 (signed for on 5/15/25) confirming the date I tendered the vehicle. Both gm and the dealer were fully aware the 60-day federal repair window had begun. It is now well past that deadline, and the l87 recall remains unresolved. Compounding the issue, the ac failed on [xxx], and the vehicle has been parked since early June due to extreme ky heat, making it unsafe to drive my children. I rely on this vehicle for daily commuting—driving ~100 miles/day for work—and it is also the only vehicle we own capable of towing our family boat, which has now sat unused all summer. I am currently paying $1,000/mo for the Yukon, $600/mo for the boat, and $200/mo for insurance—$1,800/month in preventable financial losses caused by gm’s failure to act. No repair has been offered. No loaner vehicle has been provided. No response has been received. I believe I was misled and discriminated against at the dealership, and I am now financially burdened and without a safe, reliable vehicle. This situation qualifies under the national traffic and motor vehicle safety act for repurchase, compensation, or forced resolution. I am requesting a formal investigation and full remedy. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2025

I jumped in and turned the car on and started driving. Right away I noticed most of the warning lights were on. The first speed bump in the complex made me realize I had lost 80-90% of my brakes as if I had a broken brake line for example and steering was a little hard and pulling a bit to one side. I check underneath I did not have any leaks. I decided to take it to the dealer to have it checked. Dealer said they were not able to find anything and cleared the codes. Dash lights check engine lane depart drive assist abs brake.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2025

The digital gauge cluster suddenly black out and do not show any information such as speed, rpm, signal, etc at all. This is very serious issue for driver and passenger safety.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2025

While driving 75 on the highway the vehicle shut off completely, shifted to neutral and a message flashed on the dashboard to "press start again". This has happened previously when my 16 y/o was driving but we chalked it up to user error. Scheduled appointment with dealership. There were no warning lamps, no lights illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle just cut off and I have not been able to reproduce the issue.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2025

The engine system (6. 2l v8 l87) in my 2022 GMC Yukon xl failed due to a known manufacturer defect tied to NHTSA campaign 25v-274. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The issue involves the risk of sudden loss of propulsion, which could result in a crash or injury to myself or others. This is a serious safety concern, and I do not feel safe operating the vehicle in its current condition. The defect has been acknowledged by GMC, but there is no remedy or repair currently available. I have contacted the selling dealership (rick hendrick Buick GMC, duluth, GA) repeatedly for the past three weeks with no returned calls. I also contacted GMC corporate, who confirmed the recall but refused a buyback or replacement because no repair has occurred — even though a fix does not exist. They offered a loyalty voucher that does not come close to addressing the safety risk or impact. The problem has not yet been inspected by a dealer or manufacturer because there is no repair action to take at this time. No police, insurance, or third-party has reviewed the vehicle. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the issue — the problem was revealed when I looked up the VIN and learned of the active recall on the engine. I am requesting NHTSA’s support to ensure general motors provides a replacement vehicle and compensation for this ongoing and unresolved safety hazard. I should not be placed in a position where I am expected to continue operating a vehicle with a known and dangerous defect that has no resolution in place.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

Onstar telematics module.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2025

We were driving down the interstate at around 70mph and without warning - the vehicle shut off. The engine stopped running and the vehicle put itself in neutral. The headlights and electrical all shut off and the only message on the display was to push start to restart the vehicle. Luckily, we were able to safely maneuverer out of traffic without being hit by other vehicles. Our vehicle was able to be restarted once we came to a complete stop and put the car in park. We are having he vehicle towed to our local GMC dealer to have it evaluated. The issue only happened one time.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2025

Engine failure (engine seizure) (connecting rod bearing failure). Enige failed on an interstate highway causing us to nearly be struck by traffic moving at a high rate of speed. Also, engine failed on an extremely cold (-17) degree minnesota night. This cause extreme concern/anxiety with children in the car as we waited for recovery. Yes, the problem has been confirmed by a GMC dealership in hudson WI. Yes, the vehicle component has been inspected by both GMC certified technicians as well as 3rd party warranty technicians. Zero warning lamps or messages prior to the failure.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2025

While driving on the highway the engine just shut off with no warning or other indication of problem. The dashboard computer instructed to restart the vehicle, which it would not restart. Managed to get to the side of the road. But the vehicle was unresponsive. After about an hour the lights in the rear of the vehicle flickered, so I attempted to re-start -which it did, and was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer (about 20 miles away). Where the car remains today. The incident occurred Feb 2. Took the dealer until 2/6 to advise me that the engine would need to be replaced. At that time they indicated they would need to car for about 2 weeks. I contacted them on 3/3 and they informed me they had no idea when they might be able to get the parts to replace the engine - there was a 3,000 engine backlog? clearly there is a major issues with these engines; how are they allowed to continue to sell these vehicles, and allow current owners to operate them without a notice? while I was fortunately able to get to the side of the road - have in the car lose power suddenly lose power is clearly a safety issue!.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2025

Traveling north bound on highway 14 in southern California on January 24, 2025. In the fast lane traveling approximately 70mph when with no warning what so ever the vehicle shifted into neutral and lost power. Nearly rear ended trying to get out of traffic and to the right shoulder. Once stopped the vehicle would not start, stuck in park, and could not turn the electronics off. Stuck in vehicle for 3 hours because it was too dangerous to exit vehicle. Tow truck arrived. Tried to jump the battery which by this time was dead. Had to drag the vehicle up the flatbed with wench do to vehicle unable to shift out of park.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2025

In July of 2023, my wife and kids were driving to san diego from phoenix. About 40 miles west of el centro, CA, all the lights on the dash came on instructing her to pull over. When she pulled over and shut the car off, it would not come back on. Got towed back to a gm dealership in el centro. The diagnosed it with a bad radiator and failed engine. The replaced both(at roughly 30,000 miles). The car was fine for about six months and then it started getting battery drains again, which continually happened starting a few months after purchasing the vehicle. They never could figure this part out. Anyway, early January of 2025, while driving back to phoenix from san diego, the car did the same thing. This time, it restarted and she could continue on her way home. On [xxx], while driving in town, the same thing happened, all lights came on, pulled over and car would not restart. It is diagnosed with the same issue. It has been in the shop at van GMC since January 12th, 2025 waiting on a new engine, at 63,000 miles. This will be the 3rd engine in the vehicle. By looking online, this appears to be a common issue and happens more than it should. This needs to be addressed. My wife has our kids in this vehicle a majority of the time and this is a major safety issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2024

I am writing the NHTSA to advise of a harrowing event involving the vehicle named above. I was driving my 2022 Yukon vehicle equipped with the 6. 2l ecotec3 v8 l87 engine. As I was traveling, the vehicle suddenly without warning shut down. When this occurred all systems in the vehicle became completely inoperable; I. E. , no power steering, no power brakes, nothing, etc. I was lucky to be able to veer/coast into the emergency lane without incident. This situation also caused the vehicle to become almost un-towable, in that the towing company could not get the vehicle out of the park position to allow the wheels to rotate. They had to use special skid plates / devices to essentially force the vehicle to slide instead of rolling onto the towing vehicle. This added significate hazard and risk of injury because of the problematic situation of loading the vehicle in this manner literally inches from the active travel lanes and took much longer to load than it would have otherwise. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer. The dealer replaced the fuel module and returned the vehicle. This information is being sent to gm as well. After this event I was concerned for driving the vehicle but now after reading about the recent NHTSA investigation into engine failures I am much more apprehensive about driving the vehicle. Even if nothing happens individuals who have these vehicles have now lost significant value and face a very difficult time even being able to sell their vehicles at all, or at a much lower price than normal because of the known defects. I hope this helps the NHTSA to further their investigation of gm’s defective vehicles and get these vehicles repaired and/or replaced in a timely manner before tragedy strikes any individuals.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2024

My transmission began having problems the day it was delivered to me. After the oil change which they delivered to me at low percentage was completed the motor was ticking. It has had a burning smell and has been in and out of the shop and going back soon. I was on the expressway and the speed declined with error messages on the dash almost resulting in an accident. No one is listening to my concerns and now the motor has a metal clinking noise.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2024

When vehicle is turned on or during normal driving, audio volume randomly goes to full high mode (all the way up) to a deafening level that makes it difficult to drive. The knob, steering wheel controls and any connected devices (like the phone) do not control the audio. Audio setting is completely unresponsive and will not turn down. It is not possible to drive in this condition. I had to pull over and turn my car off. I turned it on and off several times before the audio did not come on full blast and I could safely drive my car. This is the third time this has happened to me. Two out of 3 times I had a young child in the car.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2024

The servicing dealer identified a faulty injector wiring harness. A national backorder caused a delay in repair. I do not have the part. The dealer retained. I was driving at highway speeds on the interstate and every possible warning light came on the dash. "service esc" "service traction control", reduced acceleration drive with care", "forward collision system unavailable", "service emmision system" at this point, I experienced a loss of power and acceleration, and the vehicle would shake violently when I applied the accelerator pedal. There was no indication of any failure prior to the failure.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2024

As we were leaving cortez, CO. On a two lane highway we were passing a couple of cars with plenty of room to get back into to the driving lane when we lost all power from the engine. The cars we had just passed had to slam on their brakes as we were trying to keep from a head on collision. But with no power and the denali in neutral we couldn’t change anything. We coasted to a county road approach and it died in the middle of it. No power. We had to call a tow truck who took it back into cortez to webb Chevrolet. The engine had seized. God was watching over us that day. We have since found out that there has been many seized engines with the 2022, 6. 2 liter engines. In many new pickups and few of the suburbans. In fact, the webb Chevrolet people said they have had one that they replaced the seized engine with a new 6. 2 liter engine and in 500 miles that new engine also seized! this is a major saftey issue!! this engine needs to be recalled before it ruins lives of the families who are driving them!!. We only had 42,000 miles on our 2022 Yukon denali and Chevrolet couldn’t even rent a vehicle to get home and it would be a month to have to wait for a new one. We had to trade vehicles to get home. Point is, when the engine seizes while passing cars on a two lane, somebody is going to die. Families aren’t at fault when the company has been notified of their negligence to get a recall on this engine and fixed. We’ve had our denali in for service several times for electrical issues. This should qualify as a lemon law. Instead, GMC tried to send a $5000. 00 voucher to use when we buy a new vehicle. This family has bought GMC, cadilac’s, chevy’s for over 50 years. We like our salesman and would continue this business, but not if you don’t make safety first!! recall this engine now!!! take care of your customers and our friends! look for yourself the amount of seized engines in this 6. 2liter engine. Thank you, monica switzer.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2024

Reported electrical issues beginning one month after purchasing the vehicle. I reported issues for the first year including the running boards not working, entertainment system not operating, hard engine restart/stalling and the reverse camera not engaging. February 2024 the car was driving down the highway and a loud noise began in the engine. Entire car stopped running. Placed in the shop for 29 days to replace the engine, battery, computer, and other items. The next day engine began to stall again. Monday at 10am the car stalled again and was unable to be turned back on. Car was then taken for another 15 days fuel injectors, spark plugs and other items changed. Again received the car back and had issues with stalling and engine revving issues. Turned into dealership and bought another GMC Yukon. GMC refused to admit an issue and refused to help. They only changed out the initial engine and paid for the rental. Car under full warranty for manufacturer plus maintained my extended warranty. Reported to bbb.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2024

The dealer claims it was a faulty battery. Said it had a short in it. I have the battery and it can be inspected. I firmly believe it was software related. I was driving and the vehicle completely shut off while driving. I was unable to steer, restart, use the power assisted brakes, or navigate to a safe area. I was unable to restart the vehicle and it had to be towed. The problem was never reproduced and has not occurred again. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer. All possible warning lights came on the dash and display. The radio and bluetooth still worked.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2024

Vehicle lifters failed early February 2024 while driving. Lifters were replaced and returned to us. One week later the entire engine seized while at 75 mph freeway. Vehicle currently in for repairs for 30+ days and still not fixed. Have had the Yukon in the shop 8 times for electrical, engine, computer failures all previously identified in complaints listed on this website. Family was put at risk on a known chronic engine failure as told by the service department and technician.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2023

This complaint is an addendum to a complaint I filed last week regarding the suspension of my same vehicle. 1. Battery: battery died several times without warning and the cause was never found. Took 4 trips to the dealer to get a new battery placed. Dealer blamed various “modules” each time. I believe that electrical system is faulty because the windshield wiper sprayer also stopped working, and the heads up display flickered at times. Issue 2: “low engine oil pressure warning. Turn vehicle off immediately” warning at 17,800 miles while driving on the highway. Had to immediately pull over and per GMC, the vehicle was not able to be driven and had to be towed to the dealership, leaving me stranded at night in a vehicle that I couldn’t turn on while I waited to be picked up.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2023

Complete shutdown of electronic controls: driving (pulled out of parking lot) both remotes in vehicle siriusxm on w/music turned audio volume down from steering wheel music volume immediately jumped to highest level volume would not respond to steering wheel, radio knob or screen controls could not turn off or change volume via radio knob (pulled over) engine shut-off but immediately restarted, multiplt attempts on park-fot on brake, with audio at full volume and no response to any controls (wheel, infotainment, radio knob) tried to use remote: lock/unlock/stop, but no response changed source from siriusxm to android auto via steering wheel controls and was able to reduce volume and all controls returned to normal function.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2023

While stopped at a stop sign the vehicles start/stop activated and turned off the engine. When I released the break to hit the gas the engine would not turn back on. I was stuck in the middle of the road and unable to restart my vehicle. After several minutes of trying to turn the vehicle off/on it started back up. The second incident happened when using the remote start. Once I entered the vehicle and put my foot on the brake and hit the start button the engine completely died. Radio and heat stayed on but the engine wouldn't turn over. After letting it be for a half hour everything was still on inside the vehicle but the engine still wouldn't turn over. I disconnected the battery and reconnect it. Once that was done the vehicle started back up. Vehicle was brought to the dealership, but was told there is no fix and to not use the automatic start or auto start/stop on the vehicle.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2023

Battery: vehicle died at highway speed 1/12/23 with 25,404 miles on it. Towed to dealership, battery died while driving. Vehicle would not start 12/01/24 at 88,013 miles, battery was dead. Engine: reported engine knocking and high idle 1/30/23 with 26,608 miles on vehicle. In service department until 03/03/03 with no issues found. Took vehicle to another dealership service department 06/06/23 with engine knocking and high idle, no issues found. Received back 06/12/23. Filmed the engine noises and high idle on 06/22/23, engine light came on and returned to service department at 37,265 miles. Engine was replaced after a lengthy wait time for replacement. Cam and lifters were the issue in original engine. Received vehicle back 08/30/23. Modules: reported the display changing 1/30/23 with 26,608 miles, service documents state related to telematics controls. They replaced the module. Vehicle had a delay in shifting, reported on 06/06/23 with 36, 303 miles. Transmission control module was out of calibration and was reprogrammed at a dealership service department. Vehicle shifted into neutral multiple times. Reported to service department 09/08/23 at 38,183 miles. The transfer case lost communication with the brake control module, but they started communicating again without repairs according the service invoice. Then there was a recall for the screen switching displays, which it has done the entire ownership, even after replacing the module. Turned into dealership for that recall, it was updated, the displays still change screens while the vehicle is in use.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2023

Illuminated emblem failed due to apparent water intrusion. It caused drivers side head lamp to operate improperly. At first it caused headlamp to flicker, as if a short. Then it caused headlamp to remain on when it shouldn't. It would not cut off. Therefore, risk of battery going dead and being stranded. It could also cause trouble driving, therefore causing a wreck. My vehicle is currently in the shop for this and no recall has been issued by gm. It's a known issue, had been a known issue for over 7 months, and still no resolution!! I had to pay extra for this emblem, and they're not offering a refund for an added oem accessory that will not operate! they have issued a temporary "fix" until resolution is found, again, 7 months and still no resolution!.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2022

On September 9th at approximately 5:00 pm, my wife and I left augusta and headed to atlanta to attend an event. While driving highway speeds of about 70-80mph, the vehicle began to decelerate rapidly and then shifted itself into neutral gear. Unable to shift back into drive, I was forced to maneuver my slowing vehicle onto the shoulder of the highway, placing myself and my wife in danger of colliding with the other vehicles who were still travelling at highway speeds. After pulling over onto the shoulder, I was able to shift the vehicle into park and turn it completely off. After a few minutes, I turned the vehicle back on and integrated back into traffic. Approximately 20 minutes later, the vehicle began to have trouble accelerating and I was unable to exceed 65mph on a highway where the speed limit was 70mph, and the other vehicles were exceeding that. My wife and I were sitting ducks in atlanta traffic. I once again planned to pull the vehicle over when it suddenly made a loud noise and began to vibrate violently. From the far left lane, I found myself fighting with a vehicle that refused to accelerate and was now becoming uncontrollable. I managed to take the next exit, and parked the vehicle. After turning off the vehicle, I waited a few moments and tried to start it again. The vehicle did start, but continued to vibrate aggressively, as well as make loud clunking and squeaking sounds from under the hood. There was also a smell of something burning. For our safety, my wife and I exited the vehicle, as it had been rendered completely inoperable. I was forced to have the vehicle towed. The vehicle is currently at john miles Chevrolet Buick GMC in conyers, GA. (678)374-4695. The dealer has not confirmed the problem. No inspection has been done to date. When to vehicle shifted to neutral I believe the only warning light said "conditions not correct for shifting". It only appeared when the vehicle shifted into neutral.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2022

The sunroof has leaked and been “fixed” on multiple occasions. The sunroof is leaking on the electronics including the wireless charger and screen.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2022

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that after starting the engine instrument panel display would not turn on. During the failure the safety features such as the speedometer and fuel gauge were not available to the driver. The contact indicated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who performed a software updated but the failure continued to occur. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 200.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2022

Vehicle has been in for repair on (4) separate occasions for the same issue. Without warning, several error messages will pop up indicating problems with power steering, suspension, air bags, etc. In all there are 7 or 8 different error messages that all appear at once, but as soon as they do appear the power steering stops working. This has happened both from a cold start and while driving. In total the vehicle has lost power steering on 12-15 separate occasions. The service department at the dealership has had a hard time diagnosing the problem, but recently said that a faulty serial gateway module was to blame. After waiting 1. 5 months for a replacement part, I was told that the repair had been made and the vehicle was ready for pick up. Within 5 minutes of leaving the dealership the power steering failed again while driving, forcing me off to the side of a busy road. The same 7-8 error messages appeared on the screen.

31 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2021

Purchased the vehicle brand new on 12/3/21. On 12/21/21 vehicle started to display 'service safety restraint system' and airbag light was on. Also, all controls on the overhead console (sunroof, sunroof shade, map lights, rear access control, auto folding seat control) were no longer working. The passenger airbag light on the overhead console that notifies if the airbag is on or off was also no longer lighting up. The interior overhead lights in all 3 rows of the vehicle are not working and the fold down mirror lights are not working. I contacted my local dealership and they said the overhead console had failed and was the cause of the issues. They stated they had ordered the part and that I could come pickup my vehicle. They did state the part was backordered and it could be weeks before the part arrived. I asked if the vehicle was safe to drive as the airbag light was on, the passenger airbag light was no longer lit up, and the 'service safety restraint system' error continued to display. They stated they could not guarantee that the airbag system was functioning properly, but I could still come get the vehicle. I asked if they had a loaner vehicle they could provide me with as I was concerned about the airbag system not functioning properly and they stated they did not have any loaner vehicles. I have contacted the dealership several times to see if there are any updates on the part and they have told me the part is still backordered and have no eta of when the part may be in. So, I have been driving around in a vehicle for almost two months that has non-functioning airbags. This is a significant safety hazard.

32 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2021

“service safety restraint system” warning light message appears on dash. Airbag indicator light on indicating and advised airbags are inoperative due to faulty circuit. No power to roof console leading to inoperative sunroof, overhead lights, rear hatch operating button, and garage opener.

33 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2021

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the component that controls the overhead console was not working. The contact stated that the warning light had illuminated that the air bag had a malfunction. The contact stated that she then contacted the dealer who had diagnosed the failure, and advised her that the roof console needed to be replaced, however if she was involved in a crash the air bag would not deploy. The contact stated that she then contacted the manufacturer who advised her they were not able to speak to her because of a lemon law suite she opened. The failure mileage was 858.
