1 Conventional Parking Brake problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 04/01/2005

While parking the truck the parking brake went to the floor and does not hold the truck from moving , even after parking in the driveway. Mechanic stated that this is common problem with these trucks and may need to replace rotors and pads depending on severity. This should be recalled since this seems to be a recurring problem as noted in other complaints. Don't have large sum of money to correct with new part costs.

3 Conventional Parking Brake problem of the 2000 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/06/2003

Parking brake on my 2000 GMC Yukon has never worked. Vehicle will roll downhill if parking brake pedal pushed to the floor. Dealer claims the brake is working properly as designed, taken to dealer at least 3 times over the past 3 years for this complaint, always with the same explanation. Last time I had this checked recently I was told the parking brake shoes needed replacement, that I had been driving with the parking brake on (untrue). I had brakes examined at a non GMC shop and was told the brakes were overly worn on one side due to improper adjustment. I have never had a functioning parking brake in this vehicle. The dealer gave me misinformation on at least 3 occasions, now refusing to repair that the warranty has expired. This is a serious safety issue which should be examined by nsta. Thank you.

4 Conventional Parking Brake problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 02/05/2002

The VIN number is 1gkfk16t81j166861 on February 12, 2002, at 9am I had an appointment at clyde revord to have my oil changed and my emergency brake adjusted on my 2001 GMC Yukon xl with 22400 miles. After changing the oil the service writer told me that the emergency brake could not be adjusted because it had been worn down due to the fact it had been left on. I proceeded to tell them that it had not been left on. At that point the mechanic chimed in and stated that he could prove that it was left on. He took me out to the shop and pointed out that there was a lot of brake dust indicating it had been left on. He then stated however that he personally has seen a lot of these in for the same problem. Of course what that meant was that they were not willing to cover it under warranty. I contacted GMC and they called the dealer and through their correspondence they determined that due to the fact that there are no service bulletins and no active recalls and by what the service department at clyde revord told them ! that they could not cover it under warranty. I did some investigating of my own by calling speedway Chevrolet, the service writer there told me that indeed there is an issue of the emergency brakes being over tightened from the factory and that he personally has seen 40 or so vehicles in for the same issue and that his own vehicle is being serviced for the same thing. I then called clyde revord back and spoke with frank the service manager. He stated that he has no evidence of there being a problem with the emergency brake and he didn't know where speedway Chevrolet was getting their info and that "that's a bunch of bologna" he also stated that contrary to there policy of providing excellent customer service that they were not willing to help me or cover this issue under warranty. I then contacted smokey point pontiac GMC and they too have seen issues with these emergency brakes and set up an appointment to have it repaired under warranty on February 25, 2002.

8 Conventional Parking Brake problem of the 2000 GMC Yukon

The parking brake system is not designed to hold more than the weight of the vehicle on more than an eleven percent grade. The Yukon xl is advertised by GMC to be a vehicle capbable of towing a 7800 lb trailer. With a boat trailer or horse trailer you can not safely park on anything but level ground without the weight of the vehicle and trailer being held by the tranmission park. This not a safely designed system.
