2 Tire problem of the 2008 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/09/2021

Driving north on I-94, leaving the city of chicago, the rear driver side tire (bridestone dueler p285/45r22) blew and the outer side wall seem to have a defect (weak side wall). This should never happen in a passenger car and the manufacturer should have better quality control and prevent these defects from leaving the plants. I have a ms in mechanical engineering and have knowledge of the tire designs, as we did research for firestone in the 1980's at my university, and this is definitely a defect within a weak part of the fabric in the sidewall. If you would like the tire for your investigation, please let me know ASAP. Other industries like the medical and pharma areas would not allow this kind of thing to happen and passenger vehicles with defective parts or components should never jeopardize any passenger to be in this kind of situation. Luckily, it was very early in the morning, with very light traffic, and no one in my car or any of the cars around me got hurt, as I was able to maneuver to the right side of the highway.

10 Tire problem of the 2015 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/15/2015

I purchased a new, 2015 GMC Yukon xl in December of 2014. I had been dealing with a vibration related problem at highway speeds starting in October of 2015 in my SUV that the dealer balanced, aligned, etc. Problem still existed in December of 2015, again ran tests and found nothing. Continued to complain every time I went into dealer and on June 28, 2016 and was told my tread was wearing unevenly, and after a road test with the head technician it was found there was high road force on the tires. Today I came in for my oil change and my dealer had an alert to check my tires (original ones that I replaced at my cost on 6/28/16) for the exact tire on my truck giving me the same problem. I have a high speed vibration and tread wear problems. My old tires were outside of the recall but I feel that they were defective. My dot# was a32awbde2414 and I had to replace all 4 tires. Gm paid partial warranty on them. My cost was $519. 45.

11 Tire problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 04/12/2015

Michelin ltx m/s 2 p265/70/16r dated 2412 & 2512; tires have tread separation, cracking between treads and not holding air. These are the same tires they have recalled but not the same size, have same defect; I have contacted michelin and they refuse to replace these tires even though they only have 25,000 miles on them and only 2 years old. This is a major safety risk and should be evaluated.

5 tire failures in 24 months and 26833 miles. 2 were "broken tread" failures and 3 were flats. Of the flats 2 were in the same tire within 1 week with no obvious nail or other foreign material in the tire. As a result I replaced all 4 tires with another brand and have had no further problems. The first "broken tire occurred at around 7700 miles, the second broken tire at 10700 miles. Flats occurred at around 7800 miles and 26800 miles.

13 Tire problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/15/2014

Tires were purchased sept. 25, 2009 and now have extensive weather cracking. Costco refused to replace the tires when I reported the quality defect in August, 2014, just 59 months after purchase. I have appealed that decision and expect to find out tomorrow if they will make good on the defective tires. They claim that although there is weather cracking that the tires are safe. I doubt they would use cracked tires like that on the vehicle carrying their own family.

18 Tire problem of the 2005 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/09/2009

Upon coming off a road trip in my SUV, I was at my sister's house and had parked my vehicle in the drive with the tires turned out. As I was coming out of her house I noticed that the inside tread/ belt on my tires was smooth, but with uneven wear on the tire. So I checked the other front tire and it had the same type of wear on it (inside tread). The back tires are beginning to show signs of wear in the same manner. I took my vehicle to the dealership from which I purchased my vehicle and told them that I felt that the second set of tires that the dealership put on my SUV were defective also. The first set of tires were changed out, approximately one and a half years ago, because of being defective bridgestone tires (they were still under warranty, but the change was not noted in my service history report or on my carfax report). All other minor service work was noted in history/carfax reports, so why wasn't the change in tires noted also. The service manager told be it was normal wear, or a problem with the shocks, but because the vehicle had over 36,000 miles (out of warranty) he could not do anything, to take them to the firestone company (manufacturer), so I did. The man at the firestone company said that it was a maintenance problem, that I didn't rotate the tires (but I did/ service history report). So I took my SUV to a reputable tire company. The technician said that it was the tires, they were cupping on the inside. My tires are firestone wilderness le (raised white letter) tires. My front end was checked by computer they were off by -. 2 on right & -. 1 on left. Not off enough for the tires to wear as they did. The shocks are not bouncy. I cannot get any answers on the cause of my tires wearing in this manner. I feel that the tires are defective, but no one wants to take responsibility. So I would like to file a complaint. If I am wrong I will take responsibility for being so.

20 Tire problem of the 2005 GMC Yukon

21 Tire problem of the 1999 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 04/27/2008

I was traveling 60 mph on interstate 20 when tire tread/belt began to separate from the tire. Fortunately I was able to steer the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. The tire are not original equipment. I am careful to maintain the proper inflation level of the tires. There was no prior indication that the tire was defective or would the tread/belt would separate.

22 Tire problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 05/17/2007

I had a tire failure with a set of good year eagles ls1. The tire had five to six cracks in the inner and outer side wall of the tire causing the tire to deflate. Initially I thought that it was just one tire, but, it ended up being all four tires. I took the tire in to get another one only to be told that the tires were flawed and that I would and or should replace them as they were now a safety hazard. I ended up having to replace all four tires. My question is, at what point does a tire become flawed? and who should bear the cost of replacement. Does someone have to lose a life before we can make these tire companies responsible? I contacted good year and I got the substandard response that I had got a fair price for new tires, after all, they did prorate them. Again, at what point is a tire flawed? and should the consumer have to bear the costs for these corporations?.

33 Tire problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 04/16/2002

After owning my 2002 GMC Yukon xl, I noticed uneven tired tread wear at about the 5000 mile mark. When my vehicle was taken into the carriage motors company service department for my vehicle's 7500 service, I mentioned my concern for manner in which my tires were wearing. Both the front and back tires had the same tire wear since they had been rotated at 5000 miles. The tread wears unevenly on the inside of both the front tires, causing excessive tire noise from inside the cabin and more importantly, the vehicle pulls from side to side. Most noteably right after the tires are rotated. I have since complained on numerous occassions to carriage motors and each time was given the response that it is normal tire wear for a GMC Yukon. Second opinions were sought from different tire dealerships in the temecula area, with all stating that it is not normal. My concern is for my wife and three children, as my spouse is the primary driver of this vehicle. The vehilce handles very poorly on the freeway and most recently, having received some rain in our local area, I was alarmed at how poorly the vehilcle handled on the wet roads. A local tire company in my area stated that my tires on not contacting properly with the road, which results in poor handling. In addition, the carriage motor company stated the reason for the manner in which the tires wear for "yukons" was the design by GMC in an attempt to make a smoother ride for this vehicle. I am seeking the NHTSA assistance in this matter as I have exhausted all efforts with the carriage motors and GMC customer assistance. If your agency is unable to assist me please direct me to the appropriate agency that will provide assistance in this matter. Dt.

Failure Date: 08/27/2001

11:45am on 8/27/01 tire separation occurred at 60 mph on PA rte 476s, mile marker 14. Contacted gm who could care less; they did not record the incident even though I tried to report it; they told me to contact firestone and that it was not gm's problem; called firestone and all they cared about was whether it was an at wildnerness tire; firestone told me to go to a local dealer for assistance. I am scared to death to drive this car at high speed again. What should I do? (dot number: 8x72 5000 tiresize: p265/70r16).
