37 Tire problem of the 2000 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 05/08/2001

I have had 2 catastrophic failures on the subject firestone tires @ 60 and 70 mph respectively. Firestone would not replace the first tire in may, 2001. After the second failure, 8/30/02 I found a recall call notice on firestones website for the wilderness le tires manufactured in mexico(which mine were) however it only covers dot#v672wl21700. I have appealed to the local firestone dealer without any satisfaction. My concern is that the problem extends beyond the recall notice and someone will be seriously injured before firestone is forced to make a broader recall.

44 Tire problem of the 1999 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/08/2000

Traveling down the interstate at 75 mph with my two children and husband, and the tread completely and fully seperated at the side wall of the tire. A policeman stopped right behind us and remarked that we must have firestone wilderness tires on it because just about a week before an expidition had 4 fatalaties because of a blowout with the same tires, about 1 mile up the road. No one in our vehicle was injured in our vehicle. We had contacted our dealer, Chevrolet, othe tire stores, and firestone/bridgestone. All basically said that it was our problem and that we had better get them changed because they are "death tires" and bridgestone hung up on us after they remarked that there is nothing wrong with their tires, it was because we didn't know how to drive a SUV. (tiresize: p26575r16)( dot number: tire size: p26575r16 ).

45 Tire problem of the 1999 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/22/1999

The tire failed without any warning and created an extremely dangerous situation and loss of control. The tread was completely separated and the complete tire was shredded. I contacted GMC and they assigned an incident number of 99294608 and advised me to contact a local dealer. The local dealer said that the tire was not covered under the GMC warranty and that I should contact the local firestone dealer. The local firestone dealer advised that the tire failure was due to road hazard and not a defective tire, in spite of the fact that the incident happened on an interstate highway and there was no previous road hazard occurence. The tire disintegrated due to a high speed blow-out. The tire dot number begins with w2 and firestone kept the defective tire after I paid to have it replaced. ( dot number: tire size: p265r7016 ).

Noticeable vibration at speeds greater that 60 mph. Replaced tires with no reduction. All other models on dealer lot has similar vibration problems. ( dot number: tire size: 245/75/16 ).

49 Tire problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Was sold new vehicle with p265 tires. GMC says the dealer can put any tire he wants on the vehicle, the dealer didn't know it states in owners manual don't use tire chais with p265 tires. See page 6-52 Yukon 2001 owners manual. I have filed a complaint with GMC #c05410969. I feel it is a serious condition for a dealer to be able to sell a vehicle with p265 tires without having to at least worn buyer that they can not use snow chains on p265. I really feel this is a dangerous dealer selling practice. Note: > this applies to all GMC pickup's and SUV's.
