36 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/12/2008

2003 Yukon xl rear glass hinge (driver's side) failed while driving. Heard whistling sound, didn't know what it was, stopped at home depot and rear glass hatch wouldn't close after I'd opened it. Hinge itself appears to be intact, just debonded/dewelded from the glass. Gm wants $1100 to replace with a different window- the original design like the one that failed has been 'improved upon' and is no longer available. What's funny is that there's a recall for suburbans of the same year, but not Yukon xls even though it's the same part. . .

37 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/07/2008

I have a 2004 GMC Yukon xl at the time I noticed the damage to the rear hatchback window, the truck only had 45,000 miles on it at the time, the extent of the damage is the hinges has broken away from the glass which I truly believe is a design flaw. I have taken a strap and tied the glass down to prevent it from falling out on the interstate, causing damage or injury to another vehicle, the glass itself has not been broken or damage but it is the hinges which has seperated from the glass.

38 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/18/2008

On June 12, 2008 had my oil changed and was informed that my front pinion seals were leaking on my 2006 Yukon. On June 13, 2008 I had them service at my local midas dealer. On June 18, 2008 I blew my front axle out pushing the transmission fluid out taking 4th gear out of my transmission. GMC has my Yukon now repairing @ $4,000. 00 claiming midas is at fault and midas is claiming GMC is at fault.

39 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/04/2007

40 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2007 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 03/10/2007

There is a problem with the steering wheel mounted radio controls on some 2007 GMC Yukon denali trucks with the six disc cd changer. One of these controls is suppose to allow you to change the disc that is playing to another one of the six that you have loaded into the changer. On some of these trucks the wrong wiring harness was installed when the truck was built along with the wrong software being loaded into the electronic module. This prevents this control from functioning correctly. Instead of changing the disc that is playing, it simple goes to the next song on that same cd. There is already a control on the steering column to do this. When I brought this to the attention of the service manager at the dealership he said at first that the steering wheel control module was bad and then that the radio was defective. Both items were replaced and the problem remains. He then checked some of the other Yukon denalis that he had in stock and told me that on some of these cars the controls worked properly and on some they did not. He then told me about the wiring harness and software problem. Gm's position is that these cars are built properly and they refuse to do anything about it. Page 336 of the owners manual clearly says that this button should change the disc that is playing. I consider this to be a safety problem because now when you want to change the disc you have to take your eyes off the road and look down to the middle of the dashboard and locate a small 1/4" by 1/2" button and push it. This can cause you to drift out of your lane of travel, especially at highway speeds. This, after all, is a primary purpose of steering wheel controls for radios-you can keep your eyes on the road. I hope you will look into this matter and force gm to correct this safety problem.

41 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 03/02/2007

Purchased new Yukon denali xl on 3/19/05. Initially my husband and I noticed the seat position memory was faulty. Problem was minor did not report it. Replaced the head lights every 2 months ~ drove us crazy but we did not complain. Less than 8 months paint on the console and accessory buttons peeled. Finally on 3/2/07 I was driving to work and got a transmission hot message. Furious and concerned I drove straight to the dealer for assistance. Later that day I find out that my less than two year old truck costing about $50,000 needed a new radiator and coolant system, replaced radiator hoses upper and lower, heater hoses, replaced coolant jug, replaced thermostat, replace bypass hose and truck needed an extensive engine block cooling flush, further indicating that the transmission and radiator fluid mixed - totaling $2,100. Truck was in the shop on 1/12/07 for regular scheduled maintenance, which included inspection of the radiator, coolant system and hoses. On 3/6/07, called to check on my truck to find out that there was slight damage to the transmission; however, the advisor stated " I would not get the transmission replaced right now, just begin a service for a new vehicle" just the words you want to hear after wasting your money on a luxury SUV. I contacted GMC customer care and they indicated there are no recalls on the issue. After doing an in depth online search I am now aware that many people have had the same problem. GMC as well as the dealer act as if it's not a big deal so owners have not pressed the issue. Many owners state that they are not interested in the run around so they get the car repaired and don't pursue the issue. This matter needs immediate attention and possible recalls. No automobile should have transmission / radiator/ coolant/ electrical (head light) /memory malfunction or cheap interior issues within 2 yrs. GMC needs to step up to the plate and except responsibility for their poorly manufactured Yukon denali.

46 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 12/10/2004

From: james ward comments: I purchased a 2005 GMC Yukon xl denali in December of 2004. After just two days of ownership I noticed that the cargo cover would not lock properly in the covered position. I returned to the dealership and asked them to replace the cargo cover. They tried six covers but they all had the same problem of fit. The dealership also investigated several other new GMC vehicles on the lot and found the same problem. The dealership ordered one for me but it also had the same problem. I and the dealership have talked with GMC who say that that cannot do anything about it. Why am I contacting the NHTSA? ? ? it is because when you believe that the cargo cover is extended and locked in position it can and does flirt back on driving or even before driving. The rear seat in the vehicle is a good location to place children and infants. If the cargo cover is extended and it is touched by a child in the rear seat then there is a strong possibility that the cover will flirt open and could injure the child. Additionally if you extend the cargo cover and drive, then as the cargo coverbecomes unfastened due to the ill fitting nature of the cover it will flirt open making a distracting noise. If the driver is startled by this or turns to investigate the noise I believe that this presents a situation that could endanger the driver and or other people and property. I have discussed this issue with the GMC customer service and they agree that this could be a problem and suggested that I contact you. The dealership, fully cogniscent of this issue, continues to sell the vehicle with the problem cargo covers and refuses to tell potential customers of the problem. I hope that you take this issue seriously and help save at least a trapped finger and perhaps even a life!.

Reduced engine power, stability system disabled.

48 Unknown Or Other problem of the 1998 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 05/15/2003

My concerns are a health issue. I've owned a 1996 Yukon and I now own a 1998 Yukon. And both have water leak problems in the rear end of the vehicle, the problem with the leak is that they go unnoticed by the consumer because of the location. When you drive your SUV in wet weather, water comes in the vehicle somewhere. The whole back of the truck gets wet, how wet depends on how bad the weather is. Hard to detect because, you don't sit in the back of your truck for one, and the carpet mat that covers the back area for two, and the fact that it dries up. My concerns are the mold, and mildew, and spores that are growing, and going untreated. What happens to the small children traveling in these vehicles, and the people with severe allergies to mold and mildew. I've made two case files with them on this issue and they bought my 1996 Yukon back from me because they could not find the leak nor fix it. I am now trying to get them to take care of these problems with my 1998. My sister in-law also bought a 1996 Yukon with the same problem, and she then bought a 1999 tahoe, again the same problem in the same place. She would have never know to look under the mat if I didn't bring it to her attention.

49 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 12/30/2002

Our Yukon xl has a severe reverberation inside the cabin that is accentuated when going over bumps or accelerating up hills. We have gone to the dealer twice and they are currently claiming that it is because the cabin is so long. After 15 minutes in the vehicle it becomes annoying to intolerable.

50 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

While driving intermittently the engine light comes on, vehicle vibrates and speed will decrease to 30 mph all at the same time. The dealership can not locate problem, but thinks it has to do with the throttle body. Please provide more details.

52 Unknown Or Other problem of the 1998 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/07/2002

Mine problem is similar to this one (odi 741897 ) that I found posted on your web site. My mechanic said he wasn't sure what the problem is but we could start by replacing the steering box and going from there. Have spoken with 2 other Yukon owners and they said they've had the same problem but that GMC basically felt they were feeling something that didn't exist.

53 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 05/15/2002

My 2002 GMC Yukon xl does not have an alarm for *open* driver/passenger door (it only has a rear "cargo door open" indicator). You can actually drive with the driver/passenger slightly ajar (you hear wind) or opened, *without* any notification or alarm. GMC customer service (800 #) & fremont GMC position that this is by design. I believe it is a safety flaw that requires government intervention to correct. A safety recall is warranted.
