12 problems related to air bag light on have been reported for the 1996 Honda Accord. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Air bag light comes on, won't go off. This has been going on since April 2016. Light comes on when car is started, and stays on while driving till car is turned off. I read this is an ongoing thing. Why isn't there a recall on this problem? the cost to have this fixed is half the value of what the car is worth.
I understand that any part that has to do with car safety needs to be corrected by the dealer. Yet, I contacted both the dealer and american Honda motor CO. Inc. Both of them refused to correct the problem. They even told me that their supervisor's never contact or talk to car owners. My airbag light indicator has illuminated indicating a problem and a malfunction in the airbag system. I am very concerned that I may have an accident and I will not be protected by my airbag. Please help me resolve this matter as soon as possible. Please note that I have not been in accident. Yet, I am entering the information below otherwise it will not let me continue. Consumer states he wants air bags to be fixed by the manufacturer. Consumer also states dealership has warranty on airbags 3 years or 36,000 miles or whichever comes first. 4/23/07.
The air bag light illuminated again after the vehicle was serviced.
Both the abs and the srs indicator lights came on. Had dealer check and was told I need a new abs accumulator and modulator, in addition to a new srs controlunit, ( air bag system). These are both cost prohibitive, were very expensive optional saftey features offered at the time of sale. I have looked on line and this appears to be a wide spread problem with the Accord 1994-1999 and the odyssey, both of which use the same abs modulator/accumulator. Upon diagnosis, the dealer assured me that this was "normal wear and tear. ".
The air bag light illuminated on the dash board and stayed on.
Air bag light remains on while driving. Vehicle taken to a repair shop, and had safety restraint system unit replaced. Manufacturer was notified. The airbag light illuminated and the battery needed replacing. This vehicle was never involved in an accident.
Air bag light will continuously come on and stay on while consumer is driving. Contacted dealer, and dealer noted that there could be a problem with the air bag. .
Consumer states the airbag light started to blink on and off, then it stayed on. Took to dealer and stated the srs system needed to be replaced. Nlm.
Airbag light came on, not to dealer yet.
Engine seal went bad and leaked out oil. Srs airbag light came on and mechanic told srs control unit went bad with a repair of $600. Contacted Honda and there was no recall for either part.
The abs modulator failed due to a brake fluid leak. The air bag light came on and stayed on.
