Five problems related to side/window air bag have been reported for the 1996 Honda Accord. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Two major safety related problems regarding to the supplemental restraint system. In July 2000 the srs system failed due to a faulty control unit. In July 2003 the system again failed and was diagnosed as a non-functioning passenger side air bag.
While driving at 35 mph, broadsided another vehicle, and driver's side air bag didn't deploy.
Takata recall 1996 Honda Accord lx VIN # 1hgcd5535ta289216 my vehicle is a 1996 Honda Accord lx and is not among those recalled. It does have a takata airbag: passenger side. Takata part #06780-sv1-a82zb. I believe the car may also have a takata airbag on the driver's side, but have not been able to obtain that info conclusively. Indavertent air bag deployment: consumer was traveling made a sudden stop and both driver's and passenger's side air bags deployed without cause, cracking the the windshild. Consumer has yet to contact the dealer.
Driver's and passenger's side airbags deployed at 5 mph, causing injury to occupants, but not damage to the car.
