Car suddenly shuts off on its own while driving; all electrical goes off except for check engine light, abs light, or none at all. Happened 3 or 4 times, sometimes at freeway speed, car restarted from neutral a few minutes later. Taken to Honda dealer & diagnosed with a faulty transmission module, replaced for $450. Yet the problem just recurred not long after that repair. This creates a serious road hazard & potential for crash & serious injury, as suddenly & without warning, the vehicle shuts down & cannot be controlled with any acceleration, power steering or normal braking. This vehicle has always been maintained meticulously, since new, per recommended schedule with Honda dealerships. Browsing the internet shows this to be an unusually common, serious & difficult to diagnose issue with Hondas & acuras from ~1997-2002.

Jamahl asked that we take the subject car in to dch Honda of oxnard for diagnostic to confirm failure. Failure was confirmed by clint stremcha-service tech, rose siela - service manager, to be the "ignition switch"! same as recalled part. I brought the results back to jamahl brown at Honda America and he said he would not perform any good will because of age of vehicle. I stated to him that this car was still on the round transporting kids to and from school daily. A catastrophic failure of this magnitude could cause great bodily injury or death. He replied that is my problem and that I need to keep the vehicle serviced. I further explained this part is not a serviceable part like brakes and oil are. I also said I have a Honda that has 200,000 miles that is still on the road without incident. I asked him why did he ask me to take the car to Honda to it get diagnosed to confirm the failed part? with out answering the question he said he would stand by his decision not offer me any financial support or solution to this failure. The codes issued by the maintenance technician regarding the failure were p0420, p0505, and p1456. The purchase date and powertrain were unknown. The current mileage is 97,596 and failure mileage was 80,000.

I have owned this car for two years and have had two axles replaced, as well as rotors and breaks replaced twice. The brakes wear, the rotors had to be replaced, the horn does not function properly when pushed. Recently I went to get an inspection sticker and failed because of the emissions part. My check engine light does not work because a bulb is malfunctioning which means there is no sensor, my three way catalytic converter needs to be replaced and there is supposedly a problem with my fuel tank evaporative emission valve. Recently my car has shut off while I was in drive and continued to roll. It has also turned off while I was driving up a hill and would not start for ten minutes. I have invested almost 1500 dollars in repairs for this car and I would like Honda to repair and hopefully reimburse me for past repairs.

I have a 1998 Accord ex with 113,000miles and have had the same check engine light problem 2 times. Each time the dealership told me I have to replce catalytic converter and gave me an estimate of about $1,000. I took it to have it check ed by a muffeler shop and they said nothing wrong with my catalytic converter. They also said catalytic converter on Honda never goes bad. Not sure waht to do?.

Consistant problem with the "check engine light" in my 1998 Honda Accord. Have been to three different dealers, and all three have a different diagnosis (all over $500). I went to an independent mechanic, and he told me that he couldn't find anything wrong with it, and that I should just ignore the light. My 1998 Honda Accord "check engine light" has been on for over a year. There are scores of other Accord owners that I have found on the internet with the same problem. Honda should do something to fix this. It can be distracting driving at night with this light on.

Consumer has been experiencing ongoing problem with vehicle hesitating when consumer starts to accelerate from a stop position. Dealer notified, and informed consumer to bring vehicle in when condition reoccurs again, or when the engine check light comes on.

Catalytic converter and the fuel injector replaced on 1998 Honda Accord. Although each component was replaced the check engine light remained on. The technician indicated that the problem was probably with a sensor.
