Four problems related to transmission not go into gear have been reported for the 1998 Honda Accord. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving transmission shifted into another gear unexpectedly. This caused a banging noise under the hood. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for analysis, and mechanic could not duplicate the problem.
The clutch engaged and would not shift out of gear until vehicle died. Brakes had to be applied firmly because vehicle was moving erratically. Consumer went into web side, and found the same problem she had as stated in complaint #8013574, filed on June 1, 2002. Also, vehicle experienced suddenly acceleration.
Automatic transmission lunges from gear to gear when slowing down and speeding up. It appears the computer controling the transmission is not sure what gear it should be in.
Transmission failure. When vehicle is changing gears, vehicle stops before going into another gear.
