2 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2008

I was driving to work as usual, when my accelerator pedal got stuck while trying to find a parking space. It was a cold morning, around 12 degrees, so I first thought that I was slipping on ice and had no control of the car. Once off the icy patch, my car continued to take off on me, even with my foot on the brakes. It actually continued to speed up and that was the moment I knew I was in trouble. I was in the parking lot when this happened, so I did not have alot of room or time to put it in neutral or actually jump out. I sped out of the entry, through the street, over the curb, through the fence and landed on railroad ties, that thankfully high centered me, and another fence that ultimately stopped me. Both bags deployed and my car was totaled. Once I knew that I was o. K. , I put the car in park, and the engine was still revving. That, I know, is not right. The whole time I could smell burnt rubber or brakes. I know the difference between my gas and brake pedal, and I definitely had my brakes applied. Why would I want to cause this kind of damage to my car and especially myself ? I could have actually killed myself or someone else. If it was not for the railroad ties that high centered me. I would have gone right through the second fence and ended up, who knows where. I definitely had an angel watching over me. I am so upset and sore that I don't know what to do. I spent all day on the internet looking at other incidents involving the same make and model with accelerator problems, especially in cold weather. I guess this is not just "driver error" that everyone seems to think, now is it.

Once the vehicle is put in gear, the accelerator won't move unless using extreme force, then it will lunge forward or backward if in reverse. The problem was momentarily fixed by lubricating the throttle body but after 15 to 20,000 miles problem reappears.

While driving, consumer has problem accelerating. After contacting dealer, dealer noted that there is a build up of carbon in throttle body. Engine hestitates/lurches forward at any speed when using regular unleaded gasoline.
