1 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2013

Transmission fail squills whines loud in reverse won't go in reverse sometime squills whines in park when started only way to hush it is to throw in drive then into neutral and pull the park brake. In drive it shifts hard going up in gears then when slowing down it down shifts hard like a manual transmission sometime hard enough to squill the tires . This is a big problem with 98-02 Honda Accord automatic transmissions and this needs to be fixed its going to get someone killed . Honda needs to be forced to recall these car/ cars and fix the problem.

4 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2011

Purchased 99 Honda Accord v6 in 2007. One owner car. Im second owner. All maintenance done on schedule. On 5/29/11 transmission failed. I called Honda they said "we know about the situation and we're investigating the issue. We're not going to do anything about your transmission. I have taken good care of my Accord v6. The transmission should not have failed. I was stranded on the interstate with my four small children. Then had to pay $350 for the tow home. I am a loyal Honda owner. This is my fourth Honda. I have never had major mechanical issues with any of my Hondas. Honda admitted there is a known problem.

6 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2008

Hi, I own a 1999 4 door automatic Honda Accord ex-ul, but the transmission literally failed on this car and is due to the fact of a defective part, which I found from reading various article on the website. The Honda is not accepting its problem. I have seen serial complaints out transmission failure on the website. Honda have extended warranty by recall on 2000-2001 Honda Accord models, by they haven't done for 1999 models. My personal view is that they are avoid a huge recall by hiding the problem. I would request you to investigate the matter as it may cause lots of accidents due to transmission failure in the of the freeway. Since Honda is protecting himself, we would need you help to check on the reality of bad transmission put in 1999 Hondas.

7 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2007

I can add another transmission failure from a Honda Accord 1999. This car has the same transmission as the recalled transmissions on Honda Accord from 2000 to 2002. My transmission seal leaked at 110,000 miles. I had the transmission rebuilt at 149,000 miles for $2100. Of course, the reason I bought a Honda was better engineering. I am beginning to think that I have a false perception of the Honda quality. This was my first Honda and I don't think at this time that my next car will be a Honda automatically. I have gotten unsold on them. Based on all of the other letters I saw on this same problem, and the fact these cars had lower mileage, I don't think I have a prayer on Honda kicking in something for the repair. Next time I buy a car I am starting with these letters on cars at this website first!!!! cars are quite expensive to have to settle for problems!.

8 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2007

The transmission in the Honda Accord vehicle years 1998-2003 are defective. The transmissions are failing at as early as 70,000 miles. My Accords transmission recently failed at an estimated 80,000-85,000 miles. Upon further investigation I discovered that Honda did/or will replace the transmission in only the 2000 and up Accords but will not acknowledge a problem in the 98 and 99 Honda Accord despite knowing that the same exact type of transmission was used in the 98 and 99 versions as well. There are numerous complaints concerning Honda's refusal to take responsibility and replace the transmission in 98 and 99 as well. Is their anything that we can do. I think it's unfair to spend over $2,600 to replace something that Honda knows is defective. Please let me know what actions I could take. Thanks.

9 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2005

I have a 1999 Honda Accord ex v-6 that I have taken to the service dept for maintenance by the book. Today I found out my transmission has failed and it will cost $4200 to repair. I have read the emails of Hondas with the same problem. Why is there no recall for the transmissions? I did everything According to Honda and now my beloved vehicle has failed me. I have been a true Honda person. This is my third Honda.

10 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2005

Honda Accord 99 v6 transmission failed, speed 10 mph while it's 6000 rpm, almost caused an accident, very dangerous, it's 2nd transmission. The 1st transmission failed at about 70k miles, and the 2nd failed at 82k.

11 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2005

I have had a transmission failure in my Honda Accord. When I took it to a mechanic in parkville, missouri, he checked the transmission fluid and found it black. He flushed the transmission, put new fluid in, and changed a filter behind the glove compartment. He told me that Honda from 98 to 2002 had transmission problems. He told me to drive the car for a few days and see if that didn't fix it. I could tell as I drove home that it was not fixed. The mechanic said that a new transmission would cost 1,600 to 1,800 dollars. Since I have had to get a new engine in my Accord or my lemon, three new batteries, and now a new transmission and it is not already paid for because I leased it and am in the process of buying it, I need all the help I can get.

12 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2005

Transmission failure - 1999 Accord ex in mint condition, perfect maintenance records and the transmission begins to fail ,out of the blue, at 71,000 miles. The car shifts and lurches in 1st, 2nd and third gear. Also, noticable loss of overall power or torque in the cars performance. This is my third Accord and first automatic. Honda will only pay for part of the repair. I hope by writing this I help others with the same problem. I am being forced to negotiate the repair cost with the local Honda dealership. I am asking free parts, free labor and free rental car. They came back with a reduced cost of $1200 dollars and no mention of the rental car. I am really disappointed in Honda, I am a loyal customer and promoter of the brand name. I expect restution if they finally recall this position.

13 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2005

1999 Honda Accord transmission failure the transmission is hesitating at shift points and shifts harshly when finally shifts. I brought my car into my local dealer who determined the transmission is in need of replacement at a cost of $4280. 00. I have since contacted Honda's customer service. They have agreed to cover the cost of the transmission but expect me to cover the cost of labor, totaling $863. 00. In my research I have found that Honda motor corp. Has extended the warranties on five models of vehicles built from 2000 thru 2002 but not 1999 year.

14 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2005

Transmission fails to downshift properly. Honda fails to acknowledge their mistake, and its unfortunate that consumers like myself should pay for their mistake.

15 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2004

1999 Honda Accord - 63k miles - transmission failed. Transmission was serviced about 5k00miles before failure despite not being recommended by Honda. Honda would not pay for replacement.

16 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2004

I own a 1999 Honda Accord ex 2. 3 vtech. I started having transmission problems around 60000, when the car was cold transmission had trouble shifting gears, when the car gets hot transmission is ok. I went to the Honda dealer where my friend works as a mechanic and he told me that my transmission is failing and sooner or later it will need to be replaced, he also told me that there are hundreds of people coming to the dealer with the same problem, he also told me that Honda issued a recall on 2000 and 2001 Hondas Accord transmission but they did not issue the recall for 1998 and 1999. I've ended up selling my Accord and getting another 1999 Honda Accord lx 2. 3 vtech and few weeks ago I've noticed the same problem. What's going on? if Honda won't issue another recall for 1999 Accord transmissions, I'll never buy Honda again.

21 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2004

99 Accord ex v6. Driving on expressway at about 40 mph and accelerating. Transmission jolted the entire car shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear, engine light came on and from that point on transmission was extremely sluggish and jolting during down shift or upshift. Took into dealer was informed it needed new transmission for $6500. This car has 67000 miles on it. Found several hundred complaints on the internet regarding automatic transmission failures exactly like mine in v6 Accords exactly like mine. Honda extended warranty on 2000 and 2001 v6's to 7 yr/100k, but not 1998 or 1999. My car happens to be a 1999. When a class action suit is initiated, count me in. I will file formal complaint with american Honda.

22 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2004

I just purchased a 1999 Honda Accord exv6 coupe from the original owner who kept excellent records on the scheduled maintaince According to the factory manual. The complaint I have is that the automatic transmission is failing with only 60,000 miles on the car. I have read where the Honda recalled 16000 Accords with transmission problems and replaced them on 2000 and 2001 Accords. Why are they allowed to skip the 1999 problems? something must be done about this thank you for your time. Larry weinstein.

24 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2004

Automatic transmission failure at 53k!. Transmission suddenly jerked car forward at stop light forcing it into intersection. Dealership diagnosed as a transmission failure and that it needs to be replaced. No extended warrant from Honda for '99 models. Unless Honda takes care of its defective parts it will be my last Honda. Very dangerous situation!.

25 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2004

1999 Honda Accord, transmission failed after only 59,000 miles! engine light came on only 5 miles before I took it to authorized Honda dealer who deemed it unsafe to drive! I do not have all the service records but I know I did take it for every single service suggested in the manual. Not only does Honda know about this problem (it extended the warranty on 2000 and 2001 models, which are identical to the 1999) but just in my small town alone I personally know of 2 other people who had the same problem!after much pressing, Honda agreed to pay for less than a third of the $5000. 00 cost of new transmission big deal! also they refused to pay for my rental (now going on 2 weeks). . . . It took them over w eek to respond to my complaint leaving me either driving an unsafe (in their words) car or renting 1!.

26 Transmission Failure problem

28 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2003

1999 Honda Accord v-6 automatic transmission failed at 51,000 miles. This appears to be common for this model car. I believe Honda should order a recall for this transmission or offer to extend the warranty from the current 36,000 miles.

29 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2003

Transmission failure on 1999 Honda Accord. Honda will not extend warranty as they have on 2000-2001 models with same problem. See Honda service bulletin 00-065 dated 8/22/00. Someone is going to die when the transmission fails on the highway.
