1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2023

Hello, the ignition switch in my vehicle has never worked right. I took the vehicle to a Honda dealership for a airbag recall and was told them about the ignition switch problem and recall. They said they would not do the recall and wanted me to call Honda. I called Honda and was told that I would have to pay for diagnostic fee before they would attempt any repairs for this recall. The Honda case number is 14383356. I refuse to pay a fee for what should be a free recall. If you could please help me with this issue I would certainly appreciate it. The recall information is as follows: NHTSA recall number:05v-025 mfr campaign id:p68 campaign description:99-02 Accord ign interlock recall date:01/27/2005 thank you in advance for all your help.

Failure Date: 06/17/2018

My 2000 Honda Accord ex v6 has a few issues: 1. Front/rear struts, sway bar bushings, and sway bar links. This has caused my car to fail safety tests for the last 5 years. I have received an itemized estimate for these issues from a mechanic. 2. Electrical. The front instrument panel is not working properly. I can not touch any buttons on the dash or the lights on the panel will go off completely. Both of these are a huge safety issue and it is not safe to drive! no lights or warning of any kind regarding these issues!.

See NHTSA campaign #05v025000 (electrical system: ignition: switch) car is experiencing the exact issue listed in the campaign that involves 2000 Accords, but Honda has said that my VIN is not covered.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2014

I recently took my car to Honda with problems accelerating up a hill and sometime on flat land and they told me I needed a new transmission at a cost of $4300. I asked to speak with a service manager because I only take my car to Honda to be serviced and now all of a sunden I need a new transmission. Well the service manager told me the transmissions on the 2000 Honda Accord ex v6 were bad. This prompted me to go online and do research, and there were a whole lot of complaints. These complaints stated a lot of issues I had with my car when I first got it specifically I couldnt get my car to shift out of gear from park. My car broke down on me so much in the earlier years it was ridiculous. So I called Honda to no avail since I felt my issues were covered up when I had a warranty with them. They said they couldnt help me im at 116,000 miles and they extended the mileage to 109,000 on their transmissions. I would say that this is bad business for Honda. They should have done a recall. They sevice techs should have been more thorough.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2014

. It is possible to turn the ignition key to the “off” position and remove the key without shifting the transmission to park.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2013

Vehicle's dashboard lights do not light up. The is an inconsistent problem, but it continues to be more frequent. The lights will go out while driving, then after turning off the vehicle, they may or may not light back up. Was informed by a mechanic that a bulletin was issued that this was a big problem with Hondas. A letter was sent to Honda addressing this issue.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

The ignition kay be taken out while the car is not in parking gear. The keys can switch off the car engine while its in gear and going at a speed. Its a safety concern. I spoke to Honda and they would not honor this a s a safety recall.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2012

Air conditioner stopped working and all lights on hvac control panel went out. A small amount of smoke filled passenger compartment and temperature control knob became warm and loose. The plastic temperature control knob came off and I burned myself on the metal temperature control shaft which the knob attaches to. The metal temperature easily exceeded 300 degrees fahrenheit. Once the car was parked and cooled down I removed the hvac control panel from the dash. The plastic is melted where the temperature control knob is and on the inside of the control panel. I removed the circuit board from the control panel and it smells like burned electronics. The circuit board has brown burn marks and bubbling on the board itself. The entire hvac control unit will have to replaced at the cost of $200-$300.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

The ignition kay be taken out while the car is not in parking gear. The keys can switch off the car engine while its in gear and going at a speed. Its a safety concern. I spoke to Honda and they would not honor this a s a safety recall. VIN [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2012

My security system. Sometimes the alarm will go off for no reason. Sometimes the car locks itself, and often I attempt to start the car, nothing happens. Usally after 3-4 hours I can start the car. This happens when the car is parked and has not bee driven that day. My alarm will go off sometimes when I am driving in the city. These problems have been on going since 2012. When I purchased the Honda the paint job was perfect, within1 month all of the paint on the hood was gone, and now both front fenders are becoming infected.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

I spoke with a customer service representative by the name of [xxx] from american Honda motor CO. , inc. On June 12, 2005 about an srs related problem relating to their technical service bulletin 06-009 dated February 5, 2008. I was told that the warranty has already expired because the vehicle is more than 10 years old even if the mileage is less than 124,000 miles. I am the second owner of the vehicle when it was purchased from a private party back in 2004. Since these models came without an air conditioning unit, I had one installed the same year (2004) at the closest dealership near our place of residence. Because of this service, they should have updated the ownership record for this vehicle to reflect my name as the new owner. When this bulletin came out, Honda failed to furnish me a copy of the TSB since I only found out from them on June 25, 2012 that the said vehicle was still registered with the first owner. When the problem about the srs unit occurred which was directly related to the bulletin they released on February 5, 2008 they would not honor the bulletin anymore and even told me that my vehicle was not covered, even if the bulletin specifically states that the vehicles affected included "2000-2001 Honda Accord 2-dr and 4-all with opds". I went to the dealership last Friday, 6/22/2012 without knowing that this TSB ever existed and they were charging me a substantial fee to get it fixed even though it is a factory defect and should be fixed by them without cost to me. My complaint is that they failed to furnish me a copy of the service bulletin and now that this problem has occurred to my vehicle they will not honor that service bulletin. I would have brought my car in to get fixed even without this problem had I received this bulletin on time. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

The srs light came on. Honda tells us that the component that regulates the airbags (a Mini-computer in the dash?) has failed and must be replaced. Honda advises that, until replaced, the airbags will not work. Based on the internet research I have done, this appears to be a fairly common problem. Honda wants to charge $1000 to replace the unit, although it appears that the component is available online for about $325, and requires about an hour of labor to install. This seems to us to be a pretty fundamental safety issue, and this component should be engineered to last well beyond the anticipated lifetime of the vehicle.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2011

Tl- the contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while the transmission was shifted to neutral, the key was able to be removed from the ignition. The failure occurred constantly. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 05v025000(electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000. Jo.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2011

I own a 2000 Honda Accord that I purchased brand new. The car has been shutting down while I am on the road with no warning. This happens at different speeds. Also when I pull over the engine will start immediately, but now it is hard to start and will stall immediately after starting it. I took my car to gunn Honda in san antonio, texas on 6/7/11. The dealership had my car until June 9, 2011, but said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. So far I have been lucky that nobody has been behind me when the car has died. I called the dealer again on 6/18/11 and spoke with anita, who made it seem like I was crazy. She said they would have checked for any open recalls. I looked on line and I found that this has been an ongoing problem for other Honda owners. My car has 103,000 miles, and this started happening in February, but is occurring more frequently. I did some research and found out that you investigated this under campaign number 02v120000 but I didnt see that 2000 Accords were included in this.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2011

Headlamps are not bright enough at night. . . Sometimes the car won,t start. I let it sit a while, then it starts. This is usually in the summer. Before I turn off the ignition, I turn off all the blowers. (air) that seems to work. The windows fog up when it is humid and the blowers won't clear them.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2010

I have Honda v6 2000 Accord and I am getting p0740 and p0730 error codes. I did change my transmission oil recently with Honda atf. From what I have heard it needs new transmission. Car acts very unsafe and it jerks a lot. When brakes are applied does not act immediately.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2010

I was driving my 2000 Honda Accord coupe 6 cylinders the other day on the highway doing about 55 mph when the engine for no apparent reason just quit and lost all power and would not start right away after about an hour it finally did start a gain and ran fine.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

Srs warning light. Unable to analyze. Drl warning light comes on intermittenly.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2010

Failure of opds unit on my 2000 Honda Accord 4-door v-6. As an outcome of a joint action lawsuit Honda agreed to extend the opds warranty to 10 years from the delivery date of the vehicle or 156,000 miles. My opds unit has failed just 3 months after the 10 year extension. This is the 2nd sds system failure as the seat belt sensor has failed in the past. Honda now covers the seat belt failure on the many Accord models for lifetime as the failure is common. Failure of sds airbag system on Honda Accords and other Honda vehicle models is an on-going chronic problem that renders the entire airbag system inactive upon any component failure. This is a serious safety hazard to owners and due to the high cost to repair the sds system many owners cannot afford to make the sds airbag system operative again. Honda must step up to insuring that lifetime warranties on the sds systems are in place for all owners as an sds failure may result in injury or death for the vehicle owners. Way too many sds system failures have been documented by Honda dealers and owners. Who knows just how many "red lights" are actually on the dashboards of Honda Accords out there that simply don't get fixed due to the high cost of repair?.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2010

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord coupe. The contact stated that on June 2, 2010 while sitting at a stop sign, she noticed smoke emitting from the steering module. The windshield wiper fluid began spurting followed by a sizzling sound. The noise disappeared when the vehicle lights were turned off. The contact called the manufacturer who referred her to an authorized dealership where she would be responsible for repair expenses. The current and failure mileages were approximately 140,000.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2010

I have a Honda Accord 2000 ex with 132000 miles. 1. The dashboard light does not work so I cannot see the equipment reading 2. The srs light on and stays on after the jump start the car. I check the online there are so many of the Honda Accord that have the same problem and this should be the safety issue. Honda should take care of them.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

For no apparent reason at all (no moisture problem; no cell phone, computer, etc. Use; no disconnecting anything at all, much less related to seat belts, passenger seat occupancy, seat removal, etc. ) the srs light came on and has remained on for many months. Google shows this to be a widespread problem, which has triggered a very wide range of responses from Honda. This has been a wonderful car given timely completion of all scheduled maintenance. But the srs light problem, since it involves the safety restraining systems, should be guaranteed for the life of the car. But, given the various ways people with this issue have been treated, I am reluctant to take the vehicle to Honda. It may only require a reset for the light, which should cost nothing. But charges for a diagnosis are in the $70-100 range. Then, if there is actually a problem with safety, fixes have cost in a range of $600-1500. The whole situation is absurd.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2009

Nhtsa action number: pe05043 already had service in 2009, srs problem back, dealer refused warranty corrective action.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2009

The coil packs have caused misfirings. The car runs rough as if it is going to stall. The engine light continues to blink.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2008

Dash lights go out; there's a recall on the lx model and the ex model has the same problem. It is extremely dangerous to drive without dash lights. Honda refuses to acknowldge problem. Others have reported the same problem.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2008

In may of 2008 my 2000 Honda Accord lost power while driving and would not restart. All of the gas ran out from the front of the car. The computer board had gone out. The computer board was replaced by another mechanic and then was towed to the Honda dealership to be reprogrammed. Since then it has gone back and was diagnosed with misfires. The coil packs , plugs and wires, fuel injectors, egr valve all have been replaced. The car is still spitting and sputtering like it is running on 4 cylinders and it is a v6. I have researched and there seems to be alot of these problems. Also the srs light stays on and you can turn the car off and remove the key without the car being in park. I never received any kind of recall from the dealerships on this recall. This car was bought new in 2000.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

Srs light lights up along with the side airbag light.

31 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2007

Side air bag: light comes on and turns off intermittently for no given reason. This has been happening since I bought the car in January 2007. Tried to get assistance from buerkle Honda who did not make any notes about my request. Now tell me I need a new electrical system and that it means the air bags will not work.

32 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2006

I was driving home from work about 6. 30 pm and in a flash my dash lights went out. I went to a Honda dealer, they told me it was a multiplex control unit, and it was not under warranty. So I looked up ,if there was any recalls on this vehicle, their is, but Honda said my VIN# wasn't on their list.

33 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2006

I have a 2000 Honda Accord se. It was single handedly driven since the vehicle was bought brand new in March 2000. I have been maintaining it per the specifications stipulated in the owner's manual, and getting it serviced from Honda service centers only. I have been a victim of un-professional experience from Honda's dealerships and american Honda. A few months ago the engine check light came on. Since it was time to get my major service done I took it to larry hopkins Honda and specifically asked to check the engine light. They didn't check anything and said that everything seemed fine. Since the light was still on I had to take the vehicle back another time to get it checked by paying a diagnostic fee of a $150 which I could have saved had they checked it the first time. They diagnosed it as a stuck thermostat, code p1486, and replaced it, charging me $241 mostly labor charge. After a week the engine check light came on again, and when I called larry hopkins I was informed that ecu needed replacement, costing $960, and that they could not assure me that it would fix the problem, even after spending more than $1250. Recently, I contacted american Honda and they advised me to get another diagnostics done at one of their dealerships before they could help me. I got the vehicle diagnosed, and after paying $129 the same code p1486 was found and was informed that ecu was indeed a wear and tear part. However. I disagreed, and have checked with various technicians who disagreed that ecu was a wear and tear item, and have never heard of an ecus going bad after a few years of usage.

34 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2005

2000 Honda Accord. The srs (safety restraint system) light came on and stayed on. The consumer contacted dealership, and they said it was probably a switch that was under a recall. The light told them it something to do with the electrical system. Contacted my manufacturer, they said that vehicle was not recalled. Srs light has been coming on for about a month and a half. Consumer was concerned about his family's safety.

35 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2004

When my 2000 Honda Accord ex v6 was about 2 years old, the light display on my audio tuner/cd went out. I thought someone just needed to change the display to get the light back on, but it turned out that the whole unit needed to be replaced. The dealer did replace it free, but not until I pushed them to see the technical service bulletins. Today, about 2 years after the unit was replaced, I started my car to find that the light was on, but the audio unit was not producing any sound. I am calling the dealer today, but I am concerned because I have never had to replace a radio on a car at all, now I am going to replace it twice on a car that is 4 years old. Some how I don't think this is going to be gratis.
