Ignition switch contacts have failed - causing intermittent stalling of engine.
2000 v6 Honda Accord died without warning at a stoplight and since then it has become more frequent over shorter and shorter time periods/distances. During the first few several occurrences like this it just died either while stopped or while running but could be re-started by putting car into park gear and re-starting. No warning, no sputtering, no shaking and so on prior to any of the dying. The only indication it has died is the dash panel indicator lights would all be on as though the car was just being started. During re-start the dash panel lights would be lit like they should be just prior to starting. Now as of yesterday the pattern has changed to still dies and the dash panel lights come on but when you shift to park and then try to re-start none of the dash panel lights come on and all you hear is the cranking of the engine but not starting. Eventually after a few minutes (1-5 minutes) of being off you could then re-start the car and the dash panel lights would light up prior to the re-start like they should. Unfortunately toward the end of yesterday that pattern again changed to where the lights would not come on during the attempt to re-start even after 40 minutes. I called Honda on 06/18/2013 and spoke to an agent and told her that I believe this is the same issue that Honda had a recall for dealing with the ignition switch under recall#:36754 in the USA and also another in canada for the identical issue my Accord is demonstrating. Honda seems to want to hid behind the idea that if my VIN is not in the recall then I am out of luck. This is a life threatening driving condition the car dies while moving without warning. I am sure they are other owners with this same issue (web is full of owners decreeing this issue) that have just had car repaired but never filed report here to bring issue to your organization's attention.
Ignition switch does not block the removal of the ignition key when the vehicle isn't in park. I have parked my car, removed my key not realizing the car is in park, this caused my vehicle to roll which could have caused and accident or damage to property. There are previous recalls on the 2000 Honda Accord however Honda advised that my vehicle is not part of the recall however it is having the same issue. Previous recall campaign id number pe05002 as well as pe03014.

The above information was from the most recent incident, however this problem has existed for several years. My wife has told me about the problem with the ignition switch that allows this car to have the keys removed while the car is in drive and the engine is off (NHTSA action number peo5002). She contacted Honda while in orlando FL but they said the recall was not for her VIN. This is still problem and I contacted Honda today and was told I could have it fixed but would have to pay for it. I am not sure but I believe this car should be included in the recall if the problem exists on it. Please let me know what I have to do so Honda will comply with their recall.

Intermitent ignition switch function.
I have a 2000 Honda Accord ex 4-door with 4 cylinder engine, automatic transmission. When the car is started and the and shifted into drive, you can then remove the key from the ignition. This indicates a failure of the ignition switched interlock function. I called Honda and was informed that my car had no recall notices for it's v. I. N. Number. I am aware that their was a recall for this same problem ref:NHTSA campaign id number: 05v025000 & NHTSA action number: pe05002 . Honda should remedy this problem since it could result in a possible crash of the vehicle and since their was a past history of this defect. Thanks dale clapper.

Recall campaign number 05v025000 for the electrical system dealing with the ignition switch that was identical to the failure; however, the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included. The failure mileage was 115,000. The current mileage was 150,000.
There are 2 recalls on my year, make & model that I am experiencing. However, Honda claims my VIN is not included in the recall. I find it very odd that I could be experiencing both of the recalls, but my car is excluded. I also have seen several complaints all over the internet about the clearcoat on '98-'02 Honda's peeling. Honda is not accepting responsibility for the defective clearcoat.

I had left the car in a parking structure. Apparently I had left the gear in reverse rather than in park. After leaving the car with my ignition key in hand the car began to roll, and subsequently crashed into another car which was parked. The damage was minimal, but costly to repair anyhow. There was a woman with a baby in a carriage which was narrowly missed by the moving vehicle. I have since learned that I should not have been able to remove the key from the ignition with the gear shift lever not in park. In fact, there has been a recall 05v025000 for the exact same problem. Although almost 500000 cars of the same year and model of mine were affected by the recall, my particular VIN was not included. Honda disclaims any responsibility since my warranty has long expired and my car is not covered by the recall. It was interesting that the recall notice included the following words under "defect consequence:" "if the driver does not shift to park before removing the key and failed to engage the parking brake, the vehicle could roll and a crash could occur" this was the exact scenario of the incident which occurred.
Not able to remove key from ignition in any gear.
Car key can be removed from the ignition without requiring the driver to place the transmission in park. I purchased the car used last month and am not accustomed to driving an automatic-transmission vehicle. On multiple occasions, I have left the car in drive and attempted to exit the vehicle after shutting off the motor, only to have the car begin rolling forward or backward. Condition is extremely dangerous. Curiously, this is the exact problem for which the NHTSA issued recall no. 05v025000. However, dealer and american Honda motor CO. Refuse to repair the car because its VIN number does not fall within the range that Honda believes to be inclusive of cars with this defect. Unbelievable. Car is a 2000 Honda Accord.

The current mileage is 105,000 and failure mileage was 80,000.

There was a NHTSA recall, # 05v025000, regarding the electrical system:ignition:switch . The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. Updated 10/04/06.
The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. The contact was able to turn the ignition to the off position and remove the key without shifting the transmission into park. The dealer stated that the ignition switch interlock needed to be changed. There was recall # 05v025000 concerning the electrical system:ignition:switch. The dealer stated that this vehicle was not included in the recall,. However, the contact felt that it should. The current mileage is 84,000, and failure mileage was 80,000.
Key can be removed while the gear indicator is in "d". If the car is parked on an incline, it can begin to roll once the brake is disengaged. There is a recall for the same year and model with this specific defect, but my Accord's VIN "does not qualify" for the recall. Dealership offered to replace mechanism at my expense.
My 2000 Honda Accord ex stalls and dies off while the car is in motion. I have experienced this for several times in the last month at 46000 miles. This is very dangerous while on the road without any warning. I've taken the car to the Honda dealer to fix this problem they say that are not able to find the cause for this. However after reading many customer compliant on a web site I found that it is due to the malfunctioning of the ignition switch. The electrical contacts with in the ignition switch that wear prematurely causing the switch to malfunction thus stalling the vehicle.
Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer to have ignition interlock repairs done. Upon picking up the vehicle consumer was still able to remove the key from the ignition with the vehicle running.
I drive a 2000 Accord coupe lx 4 cyc. And some time my car would just lose power and die. Once my car loose power I can no longer have control of the car. Several times during a turn and with traffic behind me. Lucky I was able to pull over to the side before any accident occurred. I took the car to the dealership many times, but each time they said nothing was wrong and there are no recalls on 2000 but only 98-99 Accords. They said that they will be more then happy to look into the issue but at my expensive. I was outraged that nothing is being done to fix this issue. I think this is a serious problem that Honda needs to fix before I myself and/or others get seriously injured. I have expressed my concerns to many dealerships but none of them are willing to find a fix.
When the key was not in the ignition switch, the gear shifted from park. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The cause was not determined. Please provide more information. Since purchase the key could be removed in any position of the transmission lever.
While driving the key could be removed from this vehicle while it was in gear . Consumer was told by the dealership that this vehicle was not included in recent Honda ignition recall due to VIN.
I can remove the key from my 2000 Accord while the gear shift is still in drive. I did this once thinking I had placed the car in park, and after exiting the car it began to roll backward. Despite the fact there was a recall on 98 and 99 Accords for this same problem, the folks at Honda customer service told me I need to take my car to a Honda dealer and pay to have it inspected. However, they didn't promise me they could do anything for me after the inspection.
Consumer was able to remove the key from the ignition switch when the vehicle was not in park. Dealer stated sorry, there was no recall on this vehicle.
