36 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2010

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Accord lx. While driving at speeds of 35 mph the vehicle suddenly increased in engine rpms while in drive gear. He then attempted to utilize a different gear, however the vehicle would not pick up any power and would not accelerate. The vehicle engine continued to idle, however the vehicle would not read any gears. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that there were no recalls and would take no liability for the failure. The vehicle was taken to his independent mechanic who stated that the automatic transmission had failed and would need to be replaced, at the owner's expense. The contact was awaiting repairs at the time of the complaint. The failure and current mileages were approximately 135,000. The VIN was not available.

37 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2010

Car began to jump while driving at low speeds when gears were shifting. Car began to make a loud noise. Car would not shift from 2nd to 3rd gear on highway causing me to pull over. Found out transmission slips when driving at high speeds on the highway. Car would rev up but not shift gears.

38 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2009

2003 Honda Accord ex, v6 with 5-speed automatic transmission: car had been regularly maintained According to manufacturers recommendations. Problem started as transmission slipping when going up hills. It would not go into gear right away and would rev until I let off the gas and repeated a few times. The real problem began shortly thereafter; after driving for approximately 20 minutes, regardless of speed, the transmission would suddenly and violently downshift seemingly from third to first gear. Once it happened, it would continue every few minutes until I stopped and turned off the car. The second time this occurred was while merging onto a busy highway. Immediately after, I took it to the dealership to be inspected. They initially told me there was no problem -- they road-tested it and could not duplicate it. I insisted they drive it for 20 minutes and upon doing so, they told me it was a transmission failure and I would need a new transmission. After getting a second opinion (since the car only had 55k miles) from a Honda-certified mechanic, he confirmed that the clutches were burnt and the bearings worn out and said it was a common problem in the 2003 Accord 5-speed automatic transmission. Had the mechanic rebuild the transmission.

39 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2009

My car begin hesitating going from 1st to 2nd gear on Thursday (11/19). I took it to the repair shop Friday morning and had the oxygen sensor replaced. It continued to do to same thing Friday night, so I took it back Saturday afternoon. Friday night and Saturday morning it got progressively worse. It begin to buck when shifting gears and at times I would rev the engine and it would take several seconds to jump into gear and get past 20 mph. The auto shop told me my 2003 Honda Accord (120k) needed a new transmission. As I left to get other quotes, I was in the middle lane on a busy street and as I tried to accelerate my car would not go into gear (it was as if I was in neutral). I quickly turned on my hazards and pressed the gas pedal for about 30 secs. It finally jumped into gear and I immediately pulled in 7-eleven and called a tow truck. It took from Thursday to Saturday for my car to become a safety hazard to me and others on the road and after reading about several other similar complaints on other websites, I am horrified this issue has not been rectified earlier.

40 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2009

Purchased "certified" 03 Honda Accord in 04 with 41k miles. Took to peninsula Honda, oct 16 2009, hampton for service on recall for windshield, car started to act funny, would not shift in gear, was told I had a "faulty" transmission and would cost me about $4,000 to fix along with other items. Car was working fine until that day. Contacted american Honda was told by first rep that my car was covered and was told about a recall on the transmission. She transferred me to someone else to file my case and it has gone downhill since. Was told that my "new car" purchase/warranty was not covered. I have documents from Honda corp that says 7 years or 100k miles on warranty given by dealership when purchased car. Took warranty back to dealership, manger took paperwork to the back for over 35 minutes which he was in the back while waiting I overhead two workers (possible managers) talking about it laughing and saying she even got a lawyer but it isn't covered, while manager, chris was in back with paperwork. Upon his return, he said it wasn't covered and gave it back. I told him that my attorney would contact him and gave him the attorneys card, he said well you do whatever and walked off. One of the guys who was laughing earlier walked up with the card and told me that I don't need to have the lawyer to call chris, manager and was giving me the card back. I have been without a vehicle for a whole month, I have been catching rides to work (while paying people for their gas because they say that gas is expensive), I have been a burden to others. I applied for a loan, cant get another car, this Honda will be paid off next year and Honda doesn't want to take responsibility for selling me a vehicle which was not what I thought, it is only 6 years old and the transmission is out. Please someone help me, I don't know what to do and as a consumer, I need help. Please help I was treated with respect when they were selling me the "certified Honda but now they act like they don't care!.

While driving down the street the transmission on my Honda Accord ex 3. 2l v6 locked and car screeched to a halt. 45 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2009

This pertains to our 2003 Honda Accord, v-6, automatic transmission, on 3/20/09 my wife was driving the vehicle when she experienced a very rapid and unexpected acceleration that lasted for a couple seconds after she nudged the accelerator. Despite her shock at this event she was able to maintain control and proceeded home without any recurrence. The next day I was driving with my wife as a passenger when I experienced the same event. I was in the left lane proceeding at approximately 55 mph when I moved to the right lane to go around a slower vehicle. When I lightly touched the accelerator my vehicle suddenly lurched forward and continue to accelerate quickly for a few seconds. I braked and maintained control and after a few seconds the vehicle resumed normal operation and I continued driving. A few minutes later I again lightly touched the accelerator and the car again accelerated rapidly (lurched as if in overdrive) for a few seconds. I braked to slow the vehicle, and then I noticed that the tachometer was in the 5000 rpm range with my speed at about 50 mph. I next stopped at a light signal and, upon accelerating from the stop, found that my car was not changing gears as speed increased. It seemed that I had lost one and perhaps two gears and could not reasonably travel faster than 45 mph with the tachometer reading 4500 rpm. I drove home at a relatively slow pace. On 3/24/09 I took the car to the Honda dealer for diagnosis and repair. At that time, when I backed it out of the garage, I had difficulty getting the vehicle into reverse. Since then the Honda dealer has confirmed a breakdown of the transmission with a repair bill of $3700. Based on my wife's and my experience I believe this rapid, unexpected acceleration is a very serious safety issue that could easily result in an accident, and that Honda should address this matter immediately and bear all costs of any repairs. (I have reported this matter to Honda corps).

46 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2009

Failed transmission, car only had 84,000 miles on it and was over the warranty. Filed a claim with Honda north America. Car stopped in an intersection would not go more than 20 mph and then ultimately would not drive and would not shift gears. Extremely dangerous. Honda corporate finally agreed to pay for all costs except $300. 00 which I was responsible for and gave me a 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty on the remanufactured transmission that they placed in the car. Since having the remanufactured transmission placed in my vehicle I've already had issues with it. Car started showing signs of slipping again and light was flashing next to the "d" when it was in drive. Just had to take the car back to the dealer to fix the 3rd gear pressure switch. I have been to the dealer every week for the past 4 weeks. Awful!!! I will never purchase another Honda again and am in disbelief that these faulty transmissions haven't been issued with a safety recall. This is in fact a safety hazard!.

48 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2008

49 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2007

Transmission failure on my used 2003 Honda Accord ex-l v6. I owned the car for about 2 months and noticed that the car would not shift gears correctly. I had the fluids changed when the service representative noticed bad color, the problem recurred and eventually the unit failed. There was a recall that had been redeemed in 2004 According to Honda motors customer service, so now that the same problem is recurring Honda will not cover the problem. The transmission facilities I have called for services have identified this is a common failure and one shop had two vehicles in for the same problem. It seems obvious that the issue was not properly resolved as the car has less than 50k miles and needs a new transmission.

50 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2007

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Accord. At 35 mph, the engine increased in rpms. The transmission would not shift gears, and the interior lights started to illuminate. The vehicle was currently being repaired. The current and failure mileage were 69000. Update 4/9.

51 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2006

This complaint is regarding a 2003 Honda Accord ex v6 coupe and its automatic transmission. After a year of owning the vehicle I was informed that there was a recall on the transmission and there could be a potential problem with the 2nd gear and that's why a recall was instated. My Honda dealership changed a part in the transmission that would ensure the 2nd gear was well lubricated to prevent chipping and destruction of the 2nd gear. However, two years later, in September 2006 that is exactly what occurred. My second gear was faulty and chipped/cracked and required replacement of the transmission. The car would not shift into gear and almost caused a major accident because it occurred while I was driving on the highway. I was forced to replace the transmission and pay out of my pocket because my warranty was up.

52 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2005

Car was recalled in 2004 for transmission. At that time mileage was very low and transmission was modified, not replaced. On August 1, 2005 I took my car to baron Honda, patchogue NY, due to transmission shifting problems - while accelerating transmission would go into neutral, not second gear. Baron returned the car that evening stating there was no problem. The following morning (Aug 2nd), while traveling at 60 mph, upon easing up on the accelerator the car violent dropped into second gear, slowing it dramatically and throwing me against the seatbelt. At the time I was in heavy rush hour traffic. This occurred several more times as I tried to get to the right and off the highway. After towing, Honda city, levittown, NY, diagnosed a complete transmission failure. Honda replaced the transmission (over warranty at 44,000 miles) under their goodwill program. Despite this I feel that I was placed in a very dangerous situation due to both a faulty transmission and the first dealers failure to properly evaluate and diagnose the problem. This car has had numerous problems (recalls, rocking driver seat, catalytic converter failure) and lacks the quality of my previous Honda vehicles.

53 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2005

Received the recall notice from Honda regarding to the automatic transmission problem during the 3rd quarter of 2004. Owner brought in the car to nearby Honda dealer for the recall. Honda service representative suggest that there is no need to replace the transmission and has done the required services for the vehicle. On Mar 01, 2005. While accelerating on a on ramp entering the freeway, the vehicle suddenly loose gear control and was unable to find a right gear. The vehicle slowed down while still raving at neutral for about 2 second until it shifted to another gear. The problem occured multiple times after that incident, and gets worst and worst during that one day until one occasion where vehicle was completely stop on the road while engine is still on, and the gear is still on d4. The vehicle was only able to move when the ignition was turn off and back on again, and can only travel while on first gear. The vehicle was brought into the dealer the day after, and dealer suggest to change the whole transmission under owners own expanse of approximately $4000 or use the extended warrenty if the problem is cover under the warranty.

54 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2003

On July 31, 2010, I was driving about 45-50 mph on a highway. Twice when I lightly accelerated, the car jerked forward as if I had hit the accelerator very hard rather than very lightly. This happened twice that day; nothing like this had ever happened before. My transmission failed the next day on August 1, 2010 while I was on the interstate. It failed very spectacularly. I was driving 70ish mph (that is the speed limit). I slowed when I approached a car in front of me. When it pulled over so I could pass, I lightly touched the accelerator and the car jerked as if I had hit the brake very hard. I was shocked and scared; I quickly took my foot off the accelerator and let the car slow. I removed my sandal to be sure my foot was only touching the correct pedal and I could feel exactly the pressure I was putting on it; I put my sandal in the seat beside me. I lightly stepped on the accelerator again with my bare foot, and again the car jerked as if I had hit the brake hard. I braked gently and pulled over to the shoulder, stopped and put the car in park. After I calmed from the fear, I shifted into d3 to try another gear (rather than d). I slowly accelerated and in a few seconds the car started jerking as if I hit the accelerator hard, then the engine revved with no engagement of transmission, then it jerked as if I braked hard; all this in a matter of seconds at a slow speed on the shoulder. Again I braked gently, stopped and put the car in park. Last night, Aug 1, I had it towed to the dealer where the technician test drove it this morning, Aug 2. He told my service advisor the car was frightening to drive; he told my service advisor that the transmission was very bad, that he felt as if he might get whiplash. They gave me an estimate to replace the transmission at $4500.
