36 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2008

On 12/23/08 I left to drive around three miles to get take out food. It was just around 7:30 p. M. Several miles from my house the transmission started slipping out of gear. Knowing I could not make it to my destination I turned around and headed home. On the way home I had to stop for a traffic light and when the light changes and I accelerated the car moved forward slightly and stopped in the middle of an intersection. Shifting gears brought no result but finally, I put the car in park, turned off the engine and restarted the car. At that point the car would go into gear for a short time. I had to do that twice more to get home. This car was purchased new, had the transmission recall done in 2004 and has less that 58,000 miles on the odometer. The car is, at present, at a Honda dealer having a new transmission installed. I think the recall fixed some transmissions but not all.

37 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2008

2003 Honda Accord ex v-6 automatic with 84,621 miles and failed transmission. Car has been maintained exactly According to manual. Went from normal driving with no problems to instantaneous gear slippage and high rpms. A quick internet search located thousands of complaints with exactly the same description. Transmission drops out of gear going immediately from 60-30 mph throwing passengers against seatbelts and huge accident potential for being rear-ended on the interstate. This is a very dangerous and highly common problem for this vehicle yet Honda is not recalling. They only offer a "goodwill" repair splitting the cost of a transmission replacement from a Honda dealer. The split is roughly the same cost as having an independent transmission shop do the work so how is that financially assisting the owner of the vehicle? considering the high rate of failure and Honda's admission of the problem, I am shocked that there has not been a formal recall for this issue.

38 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2008

Son was driving my 2003 Honda Accord on the 10 freeway transmission slipped out of gear starting decelerating and the rpm's went way up. This happened over and over again with no prior warning of any kind. Drove to valley hi Honda in victorville where car was purchased and has been serviced. One block from the dealership the check engine light came on. Diagnosis is transmission failure, need full replacement. Only 122,475 miles. This seems to be an epidemic. There are hundreds of postings about this issue on line and american Honda has been advised over and over and still nothing done. There were transmissions recalls on these models but when taken in they checked the car out and said my vehicle not effected. This is a huge safety issue. A person is on a freeway and all of the sudden looses power! this could be deadly!.

39 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2008

Transmission slips violently out of gear once the engine is warmed up, and the rpm's go over 2700. Occurs during acceleration (from a stop or when merging/passing on the highway) and when trying to maintain speed up an incline. The rapid deceleration when the car slips out of gear on the highway and especially on inclines on the highway sends all the surrounding drivers into evasive maneuvers to avoid collision. This event occurs whenever the car gets warmed up (after about 35-40 minutes of driving). Car is being sent to a Honda dealership for repairs, awaiting the final verdict but I believe they will be trying to charge me almost $6000 for a brand new transmission. As far as safety is concerned my car slipped out of gear on my way to work on I 97 northbound (main baltimore/annapolis artery) going up an incline in heavy traffic moving at approx 70mph. Several cars had to dive onto the shoulder and I had to go into the median grass to avoid a massive rear end collision during morning rush hour.

40 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2008

In September, my '03 Honda Accord lx v6 started shifting hard from 2nd gear in morning traffic. After a few miles, the car would not shift out of 2nd gear. 1st mechanic couldn't replicate the issue. On the way home, dashboard lit up like a christmas tree; check engine light, tcs light, oil light. Had car towed to dealer; total transmission failure. In addition to the transmission dying, 6 months ago the dashboard/radio/temperature panel lights failed, the dome light doesn't work, the right headlight has needed to be replaced 3 times, the driver's side seat has always been loose. I am the original and only owner of this car and have had it repaired/maintained at Honda dealers since purchase. To have all these issues, plus have the transmission fail at 106,000 miles is unacceptable. Then to have to pay $2200 to have a used, remanufactured transmission installed is unacceptable. This is chronic problem for the '03 Accord. A recall should be issued, people should be refunded their money already paid and offered a significant discount to be placed into a safe new car. It is only a matter of time before someone is really hurt. . . Or has it happened already.

45 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2006

Since buying my car 2003 Honda Accord ex v6 coupe in 03. I had exhaust problems, radio replacement, park and brake sensor replacement, power outlet wiring problems and the windshield wipers freeze up during heavy rainstorms. This has almost caused a few accidents, but the dealership can find no problem. Last Thursday my car seemed to be hesitating before shifting into either 2nd or 3rd. I couldn't tell for sure. Later that night, the car began to jump into & out of the low gears while starting & stopping at lights. I pulled off the road and the car would not move in reverse (only rev up). After some time, the car jumped into reverse and back into a ditch. After getting back on the road, traveling approx 60 miles per hr, I eased off the accelerator, the car powerfully downshifted to 2nd gear. Had it not been for the seat belt, I believe I would have been injured. My dog was in the car with me & thrown into the dash, then the floor. The tires barked. The car then suddenly up shifted to a higher gear. I made it home that night and drove straight to the dealership the next morning. The car seemed to be doing ok. I arrived and was told to make an apt for next week. Less then 10 miles away the car would no longer shift out of 3rd gear and then would not go in reverse. I drove it back to the dealer. I was told I needed to replace the transmission at my expense, and I was pretty much at fault because I had not completed all my service at Honda. I explained that it was impossible for me to make it to them during their business hours. So, some of my normal oil changes were done at other lube centers. I then asked him about the transmission recall and he said that had nothing to do with my problem. After waiting more than ã‚â½ hr while he cut up with employees, I spoke to the location manager and asked about temporary transportation until I could contact american Honda, and he suggested I buy a new car.

My vehicle was involved in a recall for the transmission 2nd gear inspection. On a subsequent visit to the dealer I had the transmission fluid changed . During that service the dealership did not fill the transmission . At low speeds and low torque situations I loose all power , the automatic transmission apperas to slip out of gear . I have been able to get it back into gear by downshifting into !st gear. This has occured 4 times and the dealer says they can find nothing wrong. It has happened once while going through my states ezpass ( 20mph) and three different times while in parking lots and or my driveway.
