36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2015

Transmission sudden total failure, without any previous indication or symptoms, while entering a freeway at an on ramp. Near end of on ramp at about 35 mph, vehicle was merging into existing traffic that was coming faster than 35mph when car stopped accelerating but slowing instead. Nearly rear end collision from traffic and subsequent traffic snarl as there was no place to go, nor any ability to make it go.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

Driving on highway at 55mph. Started to pull a slight hill and was preparing to pass a truck. Vehicle rpms went higher but speed continued to drop off. Ended up coming to a complete stop on a bridge with no shoulder. Had to shut the vehicle off and then restart to get it to go again. Went about 14 miles and it did it again. Took it to dealership. Was serviced last week and had transmission fluid changed as a part of recommended maintenance by Honda dealership. Car in shop now. The loss of power could have had serious repercussions on our safety.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2014

Felt like the gears stopped engaging and the rpms spiked. Slowed down and got it to reengage but only in 1st or 2nd gear. After pulling over, the gears wouldn't engage at all. Restarted the car but the same slippage and rpm spiking happened again. Dealer wants $5600 to repair. Honda had a limited recall but is reviewing on a case-by-case basis. Have been a loyal Honda customer for nearly 25 years, but am questioning that loyalty now.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

While driving home from work I came to a red light, as I proceeded to hit the gas the car started to jump and would not accelerate. I was hitting the gas the engine would rev and the rpm's were super high but the car would only go about 5 mph with the ending revving really loud. After about a few seconds of hitting the gas and only going 5mph the car would finally jump into gear and go. Every time the car would come to a stop and then have to go again that's when it would happen over and over again. That night we decided to take it for a test drive and that's when the engine light came on and the "d" shift light was blinking and the "tca" light came on. There is seriously something wrong with the car when the day before the car drove like new. We looked up the recalls on online for our vehicle and see that there is one out for the auto transmission. Just weird all the sudden this would happen and there is a recall out in that. Please help!.

The approximate failure mileage was 94,775.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

Vehicle started started slowing down all of a sudden then I proceeded to pull over. Once I pulled over turn vehicle off and started vehicle back up it pulled off fine then it was slipping gears. Pulled over again and turned vehicle off same thing and the last time I repeated the vehicle completely blacked out like it was the battery. Vehicle had to be pushed on side of a rural road once I decided to get off of highway. My vehicle was left on side of the road, vandalized, rained in after one window was down once vehicle was disabled.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

2004 Honda Accord v6 ex (98k) 1st time I was making a right hand turn & as I completed the turn & tried to accelerate there was no power. Engine revved but car did not go anywhere. Crept along to pull over on the side of the road. Waited a few minutes & drove home about 10mph. Luckily I was only 3 blocks from home. Thought maybe it was bad gas or something. Drove fine the next few days. 2nd time I saw my life flash before my eyes as I went to make a left hand turn. As I started my turn, again trans stalled only this time oncoming traffic was coming at me which included a monstrous semi-truck. As cars slammed on their brakes I crept through the intersection to the side of the road. Car towed to my mechanic who has taken care of the car since I bought it brand new in 2004. Mind you I had no security warnings or alerts come up on the dash. I have had no leaks, nothing on the ground where I park. My mechanic took for test ride & had the same thing happen. Unfortunately he does not repair trans. Call Honda after finding multiple complaints & lawsuits on this trans only to be told my VIN # is not included on the recall & there is nothing they can do. Ridiculous that they only include certain VIN #'s when it's the same trans in all these cars. I really love my Accord, extremely disappointed in the way Honda is handling this. I have had no other problems with this car other than the power steering which there was a recall on. Asked to speak to a supervisor at Honda & was told she would review the case & get back to me by end of day Monday. Very unfortunate, we have been through 14 Honda's in my immed family. The only other one that had a problem was my brother's 2003 Honda Accord v6 ex in California. His trans went at 60,000 but was covered under extended warranty. He's at 115k & so far so good. Honda, don't ruin your reputation like gm, admit fault & take responsibility.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

When I was driving on the highways, all of the sudden the car went into neutral and would not accelerate. I tried to pull over to the side of the highway, as I turned the transmission went into gear and causing the car to accelerate to 50mph and hitting the vehicle in front of me. My insurance company fixed my car and then I took the car to the dealer to get the transmission checked out and they said the transmission is working as designed by Honda. I felt confused because it was not working properly and they checked for recalls and found a recall on the transmission which had already been done. They said if I don't feel safe driving with that transmission that I would have to pay 5,000 dollars for a new one. I declined the offer and saw online many people had the same issue as me.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

I was driving my 2004 Accord home through the city (speeds of 30 mph or less). I had gone about 5 miles without a problem. Suddenly, I heard an annoying car revving it's engine, only to realize it was my car! it felt as if it were slipping and then it was driving as if it was stuck in first. I could not get it to go above 20 mph. I could not pull over due to bike lanes and heavy traffic. Eventually the vehicle was only going 15 mph -- it would not go higher. I pulled onto a side street, put the vehicle in park, and could not get it to move. Then, several warning lights popped up. After restarting the vehicle I was able to drive it the last mile of my trip, still in the 15-20 mph. I had it towed to the dealership. They indicated the transmission needs to be replaced to the tune of $5450. I had not had any problems with the transmission prior to 8/29/13 and I had kept up on all regular maintenance. In fact, I'd always taken it to the dealership. I never received any information about a recall for this part (although I did receive one for the power steering hose). After 8/29/13, I read that several Honda models (including this one) were recalled for transmission defects. The dealer and american Honda are currently alleging that mine was not part of it, but it appears that it was.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2013

I had a sudden fallen transmission problem while I was driving the car started jerking and loose speed due to the transmission not putting in the gears it got over heated fast and I was in traffic and had a stranger help me push it to the side and aaa towed it to my home then the next morning towed it to the dealer and the dealer said I need a new transmission after reading comments on motor trend. Com Honda failed to send me a recall notice about my transmission. The 2004 Accordv6 obviously have transmission defects and I want my transmission paid for from Honda im really upset and Honda corp. Needs to pay for this.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2013

I was driving on the interstate when all of a sudden I was no longer able to accelerate. The car jerked when I tried to accelerate or brake. I was able to steer it off onto the side of the road. After taking it in to get it looked at, I was told it is the transmission. According to several articles online and mechanic at the shop I took it too, 2004 Honda Accords are known for having weak transmissions. It was so unexpected and I take car of my car. I felt completely unsafe trying to get it off the interstate going 20 miles an hour as it jerked along and apparently people already know about this issue?? I have just had the car for a year now and bought it from a Honda dealership. Not a word was said to me about the issues with these models or safety recalls for several Honda models made in 2004 - but apparently not mine.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2012

As I am driving my vehicle gets stuck at 20 mph and the rpms go high (above 3,000-4,000). Then the rpms eventually go back down and the vehicle speeds up. I have 2 boys, a 2 year old and a 5 year old along with my wife. I am fearful for their safety. I researched that there was a recall in regards to the transmission over heating at 2nd gear from lack of lubrication but I never received a recall, or at least my dealership did not receive a recall notice. I am not in the best financial situation to have a transmission serviced, but I have kept up with all of the vehicle maintenance including the timing belt, water pump seals belts etc which were replaced not too long ago. I was hoping that the NHTSA could assist me with this urgent matter.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2012

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power and was unable to exceed 30 mph. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileage was 53,800.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2012

I was driving the highway and merging on an uphill ramp, the transmission raced and the car lost speed. About 20 miles later, I could feel something wrong with maintaining my speed and there was hesitation. Another 20 miles later, I lost all forward movement in drive and left the highway. I was able to go another few miles on a side street in 2nd gear and then the car stalled in the middle of the street. The transmission is completely lost.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

Smell something burning while running the car on freeway. Axle seal leaking and coolant bypass hose leaking was confirmed later.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2012

My car started bucking about two weeks after I had it inspected in July. Also the drive light was blinking and the check maintenance light came on. At one point I was alone and far from home and the car would not go into reverse. I contacted a mechanic I know well who told me there was a safety issue and that I should try to drive the car to the transmission place he recommended. For several miles the car bucked and I wasn't sure whether I would get there or not, but I did. Very scary. Not sure this sure happen with a car that only has 76,500 miles on it and I am the only owner.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2012

The vehicle stopped dead for me on a road. Fortunately I was not on a highway (I was on a 30-mile/hour road) because I probably would have been rear-ended and I would have been dead or ,worse, caused someone else to be injured. I called the towing service and they said it was the transmission. The car at present is worthless. I never received a recall notice form Honda. I can only guess that I had moved from the date of purchase. However, my local Honda dealership in syracuse,NY never (over 8 years of service at the same dealership) notified me of a potential issue or recall on this transmission. This is a serious problem since the car just stalled on the road and died. Very disappointed with Honda and their lack of notifying owners of the potential serious problem.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2012

Started with high pitch whine, then it took a few seconds to go into gear, then sputtering and ultimately it would stop accelerating while I was driving.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2012

While driving on the highway our Honda Accord automatic transmission lost power and acted like it went into neutral. Luckily we were able to limp to the garage as it was an intermittent problem. My concern is that this could have caused an accident if this had happened on a busy highway or we were in a position which you could not pull over to a safe location. Complete loss of power due to a defect in the trans is a problem I have never experienced and feel the transmission should not fail in this way. I believe it is a design flaw. I hope no one is injured with these failing transmission as this is a common problem for this model if you do an internet search.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2012

On June 9, 2012 my nightmare returned and again it was my transmission. I was driving on a major intersection in queens, NY when I felt a change in the speed of the car and the loss of power (car not moving). By the grace of god I was able to put the car in reverse to navigate it closer to a safer spot. I later had my car towed to a mechanic to diagnosis the problem and was informed that it was the transmission. Again, this was an unexpected expense that should not have been.

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2012

Transmission needed to be replaced at 119,000 miles. Honda never said anything about the issue even when asked.
