Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while parked in the driveway it was discovered that the gear stifter button had broken off and was separated from the gear shifter knob. Upon inspection broken plastic fragments were present coming out of the knob were the button had come off. The cause of the failure was not determined. The contact indicate that after the failure the vehicle would only operate in the neutral and drive position and the ignition key could not be removed from the ignition switch. The vehicle was towed to the home. The local dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was notified of failure(case#09857723). The failure mileage was 70,000. Jft.

2 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2008

I have owned a 2005 Honda Accord since sept. 2005. Both of the car key casements have broken without abuse during this time. Now that may seem trivial, but they do so without warning due to extremely bad design/engineering. They seem to have been designed to fail. To replace them I have been told that each key would cost $67 and the programming another $88. Without the case being attached to the key, the ignition will not operate. If someone were somewhere in the country along way from civilization, what would one do? this is why I am complaining, and why this is a safety issue. The price for replacement is also outrageous.
