1 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2016

I purchased this Honda Accord from automaxx of summerville in good faith from dealer stating that vehicle passed all their inspections (including brake system). I found out within 2 weeks later by taking it to a Honda dealership, that the brakes, brake lines, caliper, exhaust system are all affected by severe, damaging rust. During inspection, inclusive were sticking caliper. I had front brakes replaced; but due to rust, technician had to bam & force brakes lose. I was informed of the risks with severe rusting causing parts to brake and fail. New brakes would not install properly after old, seated brakes came off. When vehicle is in motion and stopping, the brake system makes noise, and seems like something coming apart due to the insecure fitting of brakes/rotors/calipers, which all have a great build up of rust. This vehicle was purchased approximately 1 month ago in these conditions. It should be illegal to sell such vehicles that pose safety risk in brake system. Honda inspection suggested that rust was so severe that car could have possibly been damaged by salt water/snow/ice or flood. Car originated from up north. Re-sale should not be allowed.

2 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2016

The 2008 Honda Accord models were subject to a class action lawsuit in 2010. The suit stated that rear brake pads on the vehicle wear prematurely. The problem with the lawsuit is that at that time most owners of the vehicles did not know or encounter a problem with the brake pads. Further, the pads are wearing prematurely which in most cases will cause a need for the rotors to be replaced. Thus the expense to the owner is higher. In some instances the owner is force to purchase new calipers which increase the cost even more. The vehicles are outfitted with an electronic braking distribution (ebd) system which might be the cause of the overall issue. When the 2008 Honda Accord models were built, Honda installed smaller brake pads on the vehicles. The class action lawsuit covered a fraction of the cost to owners. As time goes by, more and more owners are now faced with much higher costs to replace all the rear braking componenets. I myself spent over $800. 00 in April, 2014 to have new brake pads, calipers and rotors installed on my vehicle. That service was to replace the original equipment on the vehicle. I need to have the same braking components replaced in March, 2016 at a cost of over $800. 00. The brake components should not need to be replaced after 23 months. The mileage between repairs was 10,000 miles. Honda needs to be held accountable for poor quality for the ebd systems in the vehicles.

3 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2012

We had to have the brakes repaired again. We purchased the vehicle as a certified pre-owned Honda. We replaced the brakes last October 2011. 15,000 miles later, we had to replace them again? we took our Honda Accord to a Honda dealer in ft. Worth (frank kent Honda) for a recall repair and they said we needed new brakes. We took the Honda to just brakes in ft. Worth and the manager said our Honda has a caliper and brake problem associated with 2009 Honda Accords. The caliper causes the brakes to not "disengage" causing "friction" thus wearing the brakes down way too quickly????? really?? this is news to us? nothing was said when we bought the Honda in January 2011. From huggins Honda in ft. Worth. ? nothing was mentioned by frank kent Honda when they said we needed new brake pads? now I have read an article explaining a law suit over the brakes? why are Honda owners not being told or warned about this???.

4 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2011

My wife and I purchased a 2008 Honda Accord (certified pre-owned) January 06, 2010. The mileage was 46,399. The Honda dealer said the brakes were new. (certified pre-owned) we had to replace the brakes July 2011 at 53,096 miles. (6697 miles later) August 2012 we had to replace brakes rotors and calipers 68007 miles. At this time we were advised of a defect in the braking system by just brakes. . We contacted Honda and they said since we were not the original owners and we did not take action sooner (prior 2010?) we would not be reimbursed for these repairs. (Honda settles lawsuit over this matter??) we also had to replace the tires in August 2012 as well. Since the repair of the brakes and calipers we have not had any issues and the gas mileage increased. We have spent hundreds of dollars trying to fix a problem that Honda has known about. A "certified pre-owned" Honda should qualify for the reimbursement that Honda has offered, even though we were not the original owners. Since we did not know about the "problem" until after 2010 (after the purchase of the vehicle) we could not had acted in time. It is my understanding there was a "safety bulletin" about this issue? if there was, why didn't Honda/dealer notify us of this issue? or shouldn't they have fixed this issue before selling the Honda as a "certified pre-owned" vehicle? I received a letter from Honda yesterday about a defect (control arm) in the 2006, 2007 & 2008 Honda civic and reimbursement available for this law suit. I would like Honda to remedy the situation on my 2008 Honda Accord.

5 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

Hello, I have a 2008 Accord lx, this is the 4th Accord I have owned. My concern is with the rear brakes. I am on my 3rd set of rear brake pads and the car has 37,385 mi on it. The front ones have not been changed yet and they are the primary pads to stop with. I took it to the dealer at 19000 mi and after a long debate they replaced the back pads at no charge. I just replaced them for a 2nd time at 37,000 mi. I noticed that the piston on the rear caliper screws out when its used for braking. Every other caliper I have worked with when you push on the brakes the piston pushes on the rotor then releases. The piston on this Accord screws out but does not screw back in causing the brakes pad to have great constant presure on the rotor. I as the dealer about it and they said there is no recall. Either way the breaks should not have to be replaced every 19,000 miles especially if they are the rear brakes the front brake have not been replaced yet and still have plent of life left in the pad. In closing I want to let you know that this is not proper and to as if there is a recall or design change be made to this produce.

6 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

Rear brakes were replaced after 20,000 on 2008 Honda Accord. Honda service indicated that 2008 model year change modified when rear brakes engage at stopping. 2008 Accords engage the rear brakes a fraction of second prior to front brakes preventing front dipping. This was done without enlarging the caliper/pad/rotor dimensions/capacity.

7 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

The contact owned a 2008 Honda Accord. The contact was driving at 65 mph when the left rear wheel locked up, causing the vehicle to skid. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the caliper had locked up. The dealer also stated that there was a class action lawsuit for the brake pads but not the calipers. The current and failure mileages were 37,873.

8 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2010

Shoddy rear brakes. Purchased certified pre owned, and rear brakes were replaced through certification process at approx. 45,000 miles. 10/22/12 rear brakes, rotors and passenger rear caliper replaced at 62,000 miles. Rear brakes, rotors and caliper should have lasted many more miles. Front brakes fine.

9 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. While driving he heard a grinding noise, but he did not have problems with the vehicle stopping when he applied the brake. He took the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer stated that both rear caliper were rusted and it was because he didn't drive the vehicle enough. The dealer stated that they could remove the rust. He took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who stated the calipers were build with defective metal and that is why the calipers rusted. The vehicle will be repaired. The failure mileage was 20,000, and the current mileage was 21,000. The VIN was unavailable.

10 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2009

I had to replace my rear brake pads at just under 23,000 miles. They were worn extremely unevenly on the inside only. The outside pad was not worn at all. Now at just under 45,000 miles, they are in need of replacement again. Same problem -- worn on the inside only. The mechanic that I go to told me that he suspects that there is something wrong with the calipers. It is unusual to see absolutely no wear on the outer brake pad and all the wear on the inner pad. The first time I had them replaced, I went to the dealer and was told that is how Honda redesigned the braking system in the 2008 Accord. I purchased a Honda because of it's amazing reputation for reliability and am very disappointed that the brakes not working properly is not being fully investigated by Honda.

11 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2009

The rear calipers on a 2008 Honda Accord seized up and caused premature destruction of the brake pads and damaged rotors. . This has rendered the car unsafe According to a service tech of my own and the dealership. The caliper repair will be covered under warranty but Honda will not cover the cost of the damaged brakes and rotors. This problem occurred with less than 30,000 miles.

12 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2009

2008 Honda Accord lx-p 4 door sedan with automatic transmission. . Has had brake problems from day one ( purchased new at tempe Honda, tempe,az). . . . Squealing from inner pads due to uneven pressure from calipers. . . . . Honda refuses to come up with a fix. . . . This is the 3rd set of brake pads on a 25,000 mile vehicle driven 90 percent on the open highway. . . . . . . . Huge defect. . . .

13 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2009

Considerable brake damage after 26k, had to replace drums, calipers, rotors and shoes to the tune of $546. 00. 7k later, the brakes are down 25%, they were installed by a Honda dealer who said tough luck, its a friction item, not covered under any warranty by Honda. Looks like we have to have new brakes every 15-20k and its at our expense. Time for Honda to step forward or for Honda to learn from Toyota mistakes, maybe another 16. 5 million dollar fine should be up for Honda also. Last time we buy this piece of garbage. Signed - a former Honda customer!!!.

14 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while applying pressure on the break, she experienced squealing and reduced breaking capability. Break failure can cause an increase in the vehicles stopping distance which increases the risk of vehicle crash. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and a technician concluded that the calipers and rear break system needed to be repaired. As of current date no repairs were made. The failure and current mileages were 12,000.

15 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2009

There was not indication of the failure prior to failure. Failure of rear brakes and rotors occurred due to premature wear. I had to replace the rotors and pads, but calipers still sticking, meaning that I will be back shortly for another repair of rear brakes. Told by dealership that they are seeing tons of this problem on the 2008 and 2009 Honda Accords, some with as little as 9k miles. I was told that they understand that Honda does not how to fix this problem, an engineering issue with this new overhaul of the Accord. I am very nervous about not having a reliable braking system.

16 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

I have had my 2008 Accord ex-l w/navi in for brake service five times. 27,042 miles. I believe this problem is very wide spread based on the number of complaints on line. Its possible there are many vehicles out there with bad brakes due to owners having no idea there is a problem with their brakes so soon in the life of the car. First incident was in the first week of ownership. Dealer had to replace rear rotors (warped). 2000 miles. Dealer (cary autopark Honda) failed to put bolts in calipers which fell off causing major safety hazard. I had to nurse the vehicle to another dealer for repairs. The service manager from cary auto park, never returned my calls about this problem. Vehicle has been in two more times for warped rotors, front and rear. I have gone to five different dealers hoping for some reasonable final solution to this very real problem over the year I have owned this car (cary auto park crown Honda southpoint, asheboro Honda). On 7/31 I was informed that all rotors needed to be resurfaced and the rear pads needed replacement. Dealer was leith capitol blvd in raleigh nc. Honda was not going to cover $500 cost but the dealer would cover re-surfacing as goodwill. The rears would have to be paid by me. It was likely I would need to replace the rear pads every 12k miles. I have never needed to replace brakes sooner than 100k! I called and left Honda in CA a voice message. As of today, Honda has not returned my calls. I have traded the car in at a significant loss in equity. My confidence in the safety of the vehicle and the integrity of Honda service makes me unable to continue to drive the car on a daily basis. With all the posts on the NHTSA for brake problems I believe there needs to be a forced recall. It's outrageous. I will never go with another Honda product, nor can I recommend anyone I know to take a chance either.

17 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2009

My brakes on 2008 Honda Accord are worn to the metal. All my driving is highway miles, 130 per day to work and back, all highway, no stop and go. Gas mileage was not what it should be prior to brakes wearing down. Now that brakepads are worn down gas mileage is better than sticker on car when purchased. Seems like the calipers are squeezing the living life out of the brake pads, wearing them out. Bad caliper design. And I'm a girl and can figure this out.

18 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2009

Premature rear brake failure at only 25,000 miles. Sticking rear calipers causing excessive wear on brakes and decreased fuel mileage. Engine cooling fan causes headlights to dim at night every 30-40 seconds causing a major safety and visibility concern. Dealer refused to fix either problem under warranty.

19 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

Interior rear brake pads wearing out extremely prematurely. Front brake pads and rear outside pads are all fine. Likely problem is in the rear brake caliper piston. Honda states that the brake pads are a wear and tear item and not covered. However, uneven brake pad wear is indicative of a mechanical issue and, in the case of brakes, a major safety concern.

20 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2009

I only have 19000 miles on my car and I already need new brake pads. I talked to Honda and it is not covered under warranty. Also, I talked to another mechanic for a second opinion and he showed me the brake pads and rotors. The rotors were fine but the brake pads were almost completely gone. The inside pads were thinner then the outer pads which leads me to believe that there is a defect in my brakes. Also the bottom of the pads are thinner then the top of the pads due to a slightly tilting caliper. Yet this is not covered under warranty.

21 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 55 mph suddenly the rear driver's side wheel well was engulfed in smoke. The vehicle was taken to a repair facility. The mechanic stated both rear brake calipers were stuck in the rotors. The mechanic stated that the rotors, brake pads, and brake calipers needed to be replaced. The manufacturer and dealer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 25,000. The current mileage was 152,000.

22 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. While driving approximately 65 mph the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal and felt a vibration in the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and replaced the brake pads and the rotors. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance approximately eight months after he replaced the brake pads and rotors. The technicians inspected the vehicle and stated that the brake pads, rotors and calipers needed to be replaced. The contact stated that there was a defect in the calipers because the brake pads should not have to be replaced that often. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

23 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. Two weeks after the vehicle was purchased, the contact heard a screeching sound when she applied the brakes at 15 mph. The dealer stated that the noise was normal due to the material used for the brakes and that the sound would eventually go away. The brakes and pads on the vehicle were completely worn out at 8,000 miles; however, no brake failure has occurred. The screeching noises coming from the rear of the vehicle never ceased. The contact can currently hear the noise even when the brake pedal is not being depressed. The dealer stated that the rear brake lining on the rear passenger side was down two millimeters, which meant that new rear brakes were needed. The contact also believes that the brakes were stuck on the calipers, causing the brake pads to wear more quickly then they should. This would mean that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect. The contact believes that the vehicle should not be experiencing brake issues at such a low mileage. She spoke with the manufacturer and they refused to acknowledge any failure or provide assistance with the repairs. The failure mileage was 8,000 and current mileage was 20,000.
