I am writing to report a persistent and dangerous safety defect in my 2014 Honda Accord involving the vsa (vehicle stability assist) / abs / abs modulator / abs ecu system. The abs, vsa, and other warning lights have been on for years, first noticing around 60-70,000 miles indicating an ongoing fault in the system. The dealer has diagnosed a bad abs/vsa modulator and/or ecu and stated this is a common issue and that often this part is on backorder. Most recently, while turning the car, the system locked or mis applied the brakes, causing the car to lose control and spin out. Luckily I did not crash as the car behind me was at a safe distance, but I ended up on the side of the highway in a dangerous situation. The center for auto safety shows multiple complaints for 2014 Accord, including: abs, vsa, traction control, stability control failures; owners say they were told a vsa modulator needs replacing owners report dtc codes like 81?19 (“yaw rate sensor internal circuit malfunction”) and 81?20 (abs cpu internal circuit malfunction) in 2014 Accords. Owners report abs and vsa not functioning, lights all on, and concerns that braking or stability control will fail, especially in poor conditions. Given the large number of similar reports for this model and year, this appears to be a systemic defect in the abs/vsa modulator/ecu system in 2013?to?2017 Honda Accords, including 2014. Because this is a safety system (brakes, stability control), the defect creates a real risk of crash, injury, or death. I request that NHTSA: open a formal investigation into the abs/vsa modulator/ecu failures in 2014 Accords (and related years). Determine whether a recall is needed. Require Honda to provide fixed or replacement units without cost to owners or reimbursment ensure parts are available (I. E. Not back?ordered) and that the repair is effective and safe.
I have a 2014 Honda Accord ex-l with not even 62,000 miles. When we purchased the car we got the extended warranty, thinking Honda would stand by their product. Not true. After the first month we had to have the battery replaced. Fast forward a few years and we were told we needed a new battery”wire harness” at a cost of over $2,000. Now it is 2025 and the backup camera only works when the turn signal is used; it remains a black screen when put into reverse. Add to that what is apparently a major problem with other Honda owners. When we go to start the car, we get nothing. The car doesn’t start. Thinking that the key fob needed a battery, we replaced them with new batteries. It continues to be a problem. I have a fear I will be out one day and it will not start completely. I see that I am not the only person complaining of this and feel that Honda should issue a recall for the Accord addressing this problem. I feel that I may become stranded one day and this seems to be a safety issue.
Purchased the car in August 2024 from carvana, September the car shuts off at red light. Was told to replace the alternator. Shop replaced alternator but car still was cutting off while in parked or at complete stop. Was told to replace the battery, replaced the battery and months later car still shuts off. Had another mechanic look at it once hook up to scanner fcw light said failed system on odometer, maf code showed on scanner. Scared to continue driving vehicle because of safety reasons car is not safe. Can’t return it so I’m stuck trying to figure out what could be the problem. Was told it could be electrical problem or battery sensor issue.
When driving at low speeds, for example looking for parking in my work parking lot, my 2014 Honda Accord coupe lost power steering. Steering wheel became heavy and hard to turn. The screens flickered on the radio and the car felt like a manual car when it stalls. With every turn of the wheel the car would try to shut off. No warning light came on the dash. There was a car behind me when it happened. Even though it was a parking lot, the car behind me almost rear ended me since the car started to try to shut off when I was making a turn into the parking spot and he/she did not expect my car to stop before I completed the turn. This just happened an hour ago and since I had to come in to work I haven't taken it for a diagnoses yet.
Push/start button has intermittent episodes of not starting the vehicle. Throughout all of Honda's models, this is a wide spread and known entity. The manufacturer has had recalls up to a certain date for this problem. Now they claim ignorance for this known malfunctioning part. I presume to save money and have consumers pay hundreds of dollars for a known but denied by Honda. . . . Problem !!!.
Abs control module solenoid valve malfunction.
The car has started just clicking when push button to crank it. It's getting worse day by day. I've had to set and just keep pushing button up to 30 min and it will eventually crank when it gets ready like nothing is wrong. I've googled it and seems every vehicle 2013-2017 is having the same bad starter problem around 40- 60,000 miles. There needs to be a recall because there's ppl already putting 4 and 5 starters on at this mileage and at $800 each it's ridiculous.
The vsa/abs module failed and is a costly repair that causes safety concerns. I see from research that this is a common issue among the 2014 Honda Accords and a small number of 2014 Honda Accords were recalled for this but not mine. The fact that so many are failing this recall should be expanded to include the other Accords having the same issues.
Abs module failure. Im sure this issue has been mentioned multiple times, but it is a known issue that the Honda Accord's (2014 range models) abs module circuit board have improperly sized wires that are soldered on the circuit board. This can cause a lot of issues especially when driving in the snow and/or rain since the abs system is faulty. . Read more...
The abs light is on. Brake light is on auto shop said I need a new abs module. Also the power steering light is on.
All kinds of failure on dashboards. Codes 81-19 and 81-20. Mechanic said there is a chance abs brakes and traction control isn't working. Said this is very common for my car and that I should take it directly to Honda.
The abs modulator has failed. It's a common issue with 2014 Honda Accords and they should be recalled for it. It causes all of the dash lights to come on and so you won't know when there is an actual issue with your car because all of the lights are on all of the time until you can get it repaired. Also your anti lock brakes could fail. I bought this car brand new in 2014. It has less than 80k miles and to pay thousands of dollars 10+ yrs later because Honda charges so much for the part, does not make sense.
A random day the cars steering wheel light came on,the abs light came on,the tire pressure light came on,and the traction control light came on.
I purchased this vehicle new, it has only 70,000 miles. Recently the dashboard lights lit up with a message that the forward collision warning system failed. I pulled over as soon as I could and began looking this up. First, I wanted to learn if it was safe to drive the car home or if I needed to have the car towed to a dealer. When I restarted the car thirty minutes later the warning lights were off. I got the car home and used an inexpensive obd reader to check for codes, none showed up. Later I took the car to a mechanic and his professional scanner found codes 81-19 and 81-20. There are many stories on youtube about the vsa/abs module failing.
On 1/25/2024 just after dark I picked up the car at detroit at the motel airport parking and proceeded north on middlebelt to I 94 west when I noticed the red battery signal on the dash. A warning notice said check charging system. By the time I reached rawsonville road the dash lights and power steering went out as well as all the lights and emergency flashers. I coasted up the ramp and through a red light and the car stopped blocking south bound rawsonville road. I called 911 theygot me a tow to fisher Honda in ypsilanti mi. The failure of a alternator was the cause . We were unable to warn other cars and protect our car. We were lucky.
Power steering, and abs light flash on at random. The vehicle sometimes veers off and steering is frequently very very loose or very very tight. Also, there is a whining that never stops when I turn the wheel all the way to the left or right, the vehicle almost shut off and the entire dash and radio shut off and back on. When I am at a stop or cars at idle everything will dim and car. Sounds like it’s almost going to die and then back to normal had looked at and they couldn’t find any noticeable issues.
Vsa modulator is flashing dashboard lights on and off signalley that something is not functioning properly like the brakes, oil change, engine check when their is nothing wrong. I was informed that my modulator was bad. Why hasn't Honda had a recall on this car. 12/.
Abs module failed and hence indicators for abs, electronic steering, stability assist, and tire low pressure have come on. On diagnosis with the dealer, it was told that the module has failed, and it has to be replaced. Such low-quality parts were not expected from Honda.
There was a sudden loss of all control of the vehicle for a few seconds, I. E. , no steering/braking etc. And swerved; it could have easily caused an accident if there were any cars in the next lane. When control came back, pulled to a left turning lane and stopped. After a couple minutes, started driving again slowly and with fear. There were/are no warning lamps/messages/symbols prior to or after this happened.
Faulty starter on vehicle, occasionally works but other times turning the key brings on the lights but the engine doesn't start.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the tpms, vsa (vehicle stability assist), and the electric power steering warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the vsa modulator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
The abs control module is defective on my vehicle. The electronic components have a poor design which allows the electrical contacts inside the module to break lose. Honda is aware of many of these complaints but has failed to perform a recall.
Two weeks ago the fcw/ldw, steering wheel, tire pressure, abs, and emergency brake lights came on the dashboard. I took the car to the mechanic and it was diagnosed as a malfunctioning abs modulator. According to the shop, they are dealing with a lot of similar cases for Honda Accords of around the same age. According to the dealer, the cost to replace this sensor is $1,900 since it basically controls a lot of important braking functions. I wished Honda would issue a recall of this matter considering the number of vehicles affected.
Push button start had occasional starting problem. But if I tried starting a few minutes later it would work then it completely stopped starting. Having car towed to dealer tomorrow for diagnosing. I believe it is a starter issue. Even though car is 2014 it has low mileage.
1. Vsa modulator: vsa abs brake control module and is still in my car 2. Flashing lights distracting when driving and no replacements available per dealer (see below). Concern if problem causes break system degradation or failure. 3. I have the service record from performance kings Honda, cincinnati, OH 513-774-6013 with detailed notes below inv # 1146638 4. No, part is still installed in my vehicle so I can drive it 5. Ldw, fdw, abs, tps (tire), power steering, etc. Appeared without symptoms/warning in summer 2023. All of a sudden, many of the lights on the dashboard lit up. Ldw, fdw, abs, tps (tire), power steering, and maybe another one or two. Mechanic recommended changing the battery. After the battery was replaced, the lights should have reset automatically. When they didn't reset as expected, the mechanic tried to diagnose the issue and found no mechanical issues and didn't get a code from the scanner he had. After 6 months, I took the car to the Honda dealer who diagnosed the issue:"diag-electrical - found dtc-66-113 pressure sensor malfunction recommend replace vsa modulator. Dealer says the part is not available and there is no expectation of the part being restocked in the future "galactic back-order". Cost of $168 to diagnose the problem. This part is not available for sale any where on the internet, but could be remanufactured by vendors on ebay and amazon ( safety problem #1). Reviewed many postings across the internet from owners of Honda Accord 2014 and many other models and years. The warning lights being on and flashing constantly is very distracting and the error messages replace 2 of the functions on my odometer display. I am concerned about the safety of the vehicle should the problem deteriorate further and various systems fail. The part is still in my car at this point and is available for inspection. This issue should be reported to Honda and covered by a recall.
I was making a left turn and my steering wheel locked up. I couldn't return the wheel right to straighten out. The car kept going left. I had to put my car in reverse and after some time the steering wheel unlocked while in reverse. I was on a busy street and almost caused an accident. I was on the right lane and it forced me into the left lane. The driver I cut off was able to brake just in time without hitting my car. No lights on dashboard. Not able to reproduce by dealership. Dealership scanned code 85-01 vsa system malfunction and is charging $3k to replace the vsa modulator part #04571-t2f-l11. No other symptoms prior. . Read more...
There is know issue with the abs modulator with this gen Honda Accord. I believe the affected years are 2013-2017. The selenoid for the abs module goes bad and the light in the attached photo comes on. Basically, the soldering for the tinny modulator wires comes off. Honda sells the at for $2300 these was a class action for the similar issue in thailand and Honda had to repair all the affected vehicles at no charge. . Read more...
I took my 2014 Honda Accord ex in for repairs on September 4, 2023 and the Honda dealership informed me that after replacing the battery that the it that the vsa modulator on the car has gone bad which has been a common problem with this year Honda Accord and others from 2013 all the way to the 2017. And this part has been on back order for months. This a shame.
Fcw-forward collision warning, ldw-lane departure warning, abs, traction control, power steering, low tire pressure lights on. Attributed to common vsa/abs module malfunction. Driving with these electrical malfunctions dangerous. Honda not willing to replace. My car has only 45,000 miles with no collision history.
I received a diagnosis from Honda dealership today that my 2014 vehicle has a failed vsa modulator which regulates brakes and all abs features. They stated it was only from wear and tear on my vehicle. I am only at 109,000 miles. They quoted me a price of $3000. 00 to fix the problem and noted I could not pick up my car without signing a statement that I understood the problem and understood that my brakes would eventually fail without fixing the problem. I cannot currently afford to fix the problem or safely drive my vehicle.
In July 2023 after having brake pads and rotors replaced at the Honda dealership, several dashboard lights went ldw/fcw, traction control, steering, and abs lights came on. After a diagnostic test at the dealership, they wanted over $2600 for parts and labor for a new abs module. However, this part is “on backorder” with no eta. We spent less than $700 to have a mechanic remove the current abs module, send it to CA to a place we found on ebay that repairs them, and have the mechanic replace it after bleeding the brake lines and replacing the brake fluid. This is a known issue (see reddit, youtube, these complaints, mechanics…even the dealership) on a part that should last the lifetime of the car. I expected more from Honda.
2014 Honda Accord hybrid. Hybrid engine fuse block exploded /burned.
My 2014 Honda Accord ex sedan has/had defective starter and abs modulator , many Honda Accord vehicles in these year range are having or had these same problems . These vehicles should not be having these problems at low mileage . I believe the abs problems are a safety concern.
1. Starting system I have had trouble starting with the push button for about 3 weeks. It sometimes would take several tries before turning over. Most times, it would start in 1 – 2 attempts. It was worse this last week. I had to try more often, especially on Thursday night. I did not drive at all on Friday. On Saturday 7/1/23, I drove to the pharmacy less than < 1 mile. It did not start after dozens of tries after shopping. I walked home. Later, I had other errands taking our odyssey. Back at the parking lot, I tried again dozens of times and it would not start. I tried moving the gears from park to neutral, trying to start it and going back again. I called aaa for a tow and called service department to let you know of the issue and the towing to the dealership. I had noticed that when pressing down on the brake pedal, the car started most often when the pedal went down easily. It would usually not start with the pedal being very stiff. 2. Warning lights on dashboard on Thursday 6/30/23, the warning lights on the dashboard all lit up and stayed lit. The odometer message was fcw failed. I had this problem before which should be in the service history of the vehicle. That problem occurred in August, 2019 and beyond. The throttle assembly was ultimately replaced, and it worked fine after that until now. I had been advised by one of the service representatives to use shell or costco gas. I have done that for over 90% of the fill-ups. In the past, the system would reset itself. But several times, the car went into “creep mode” when the errors occurred. Once while crossing the border into niagra falls, canada and on I-90 in rush hour traffic. 3. Stalling I have had several cases when the car stalled when idling at stop lights, in stop and go traffic or in reverse. I was nearly a hood ornament for an 18-wheeler in columbia, SC in April. It stalled and took several attempts to start.
When turning switch to start car there is a click and car fails to turn engine crank. Takes multiple attempts to start engine.
