36 Starter problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to apostolakis Honda (located at 3156 elm rd, cortland, OH 44410, (800) 900-4600) where it was diagnosed that the starter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 21,000.

37 Starter problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2019

Intermittent problems with starting. Push ignition button a few times before it will start although there is power. Then finally completely failed to start. Battery is good, starter good. . . Extra voltage by jump starting seems to temporarily fix it. No Honda acknowledgement on the issue although it's widely documented by owners.

38 Starter problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2019

Brought the car used from dealer and after 6 months I tried to start the car and only head a click noise. The car was parked, clutch pressed to the floor and gear shift in neutral. This only happens spontaneously, I took the car back to the dealer and they kept the car for a few days and said the they couldn't reproduce the problem. Long story short this continued to happen for about 2 weeks, finally the owner of the lot was there when I came to pick up the car and it wouldn't start, he tried to start the car more than 10 times, and finally diagnose the started being the problem. Had the starter replaced under my extended warranty. Maybe 2 weeks after the replacement, the issue began to happen again. For only having this car for a year and to not feel comfortable driving it, I feel discouraged. It is a big inconvenience wondering if your car is going to start or not when you turn it off.

39 Starter problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2019

Problems with the car starting. After pressing the start button it sounds like static, clicks, or does nothing at all. Extended warranty has replaced, battery and starter twice in a 2 month period and still same problem. Car only has 56,000 miles. Dealer can't seem to fix problem. Have had car only 13 months.

40 Starter problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

In 4 years I have had to replace the battery twice and now I am having problems with the starter. And the car has only 48000 miles. Poor quality products installed on Honda cars that used to be one of the most reliables in the market.

41 Starter problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2019

Starter grinding noise! asked Honda dealer about the grinding noise? they could not get the starter to make the noise(38,139 miles((5/2017)). Speed ahead 1 1/2 years. I put 2 starters and a new battery(2/19). Still having grinding issues(51,326 miles). Called american Honda corp. To see about any recalls. They wanted a Honda dealer to diagnose complaint. Just got back from dealer(2-16-2019). The Honda dealer told me about a service bulletin: starter grinding or spins at startup. (2013-2016 Accord v6 a/t only & 2013-2015 crosstour v6 a/t only). Corrective action: replace starter (pt# 31200-5g0-a04) and rotate the torque converter clockwise 1 bolt hole). The Honda dealer said it would cost roughly $600 plus dollars to remedy the problem. If this is such an issue on these specific vehicles, then why is there not a recall!!!.

42 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2019

We have had intermittent problems where the car will not start. It just makes a clicking sound. We can jump start it and drive it around and sometimes the problem goes away for months at a time. Then randomly it will not start again. I have had the battery and charging system checked multiple times by autozone, advance auto, o'reilly, and walmart service center. The battery and charging system always reports as fine. I recently had the oil changed at walmart and the service technician could not get it to start. He jumped it and drove around to the other side of the bay to check the battery and it happened again. He removed the cables and cleaned the terminals and sprayed on battery post protectant and then jumped it again. I drove home and had not had any problems for over a month and now it has happened again. This all started after having the factory recall battery management sensor replaced in late 2017. This is at least the eight time over the past 1+ years. I was told by at least one autozone employee that they have seen many Honda vehicles with a similar problem because the battery sensor or main fuse block will intermittently block any voltage coming from the battery into the starting system. It is random and will sometimes even prevent a jump start unless you tap on the top of the sensor. And then it starts fine. My local Honda dealership claims there is no such problem and refused to call me back to have the vehicle checked while still under warranty. I am now out of warranty due to the date of purchase and not mileage and all they will say is that it sounds like my starter is bad and needs to be replaced which will cost over $700 now that I am out of warranty.

43 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2019

Unable to start the vehicle. Battery tested fine. Honda dealership told me to replace the starter and the car still won't start two days after being replaced. The recall for the battery sensor was also done on the car and the car has been very well taken care of.

44 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the push button start malfunctioned and there was inconsistency in the vehicle being able to start. The starter would work sometimes on the first attempt, but other times, it could take up to six attempts. The dealer (brandon Honda, 9209 e adamo dr, tampa, FL 33619, (813) 664-1234) acknowledged the failure and stated that the contact would be charged for the repair. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact had a lifetime warranty with Honda, but was not sure if the starter issue was covered. The failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact linked the failure to technical service bulletin number: a16-002. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.

47 Starter problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2018

Starter dies not start all the time. Press button and hear it grind. Car as $42,000 miles. Dealer says not under warranty. I have read tons of complaints that Honda knows about this. It may strand me in the middle of winter. Issue is with 2013-2015 v6 Accord. Dealer wants $800 to replace with same defective part.

48 Starter problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2018

I bought this car 8/7/16- certified from dublin Honda. Based on model year I shouldn't had to deal with a defective starter. Replaced approx 12/2018. Car would give me a hard time starting it . I drive 10 miles/ day to and from home /work.

49 Starter problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2018

Vehicle (4 cycl, 2015 w/ 20k miles) failed to start on the first try, would take 6 or more attempts of the push button start to get the vehicle to successfully start. No alarms, lights, notification, etc. . That the vehicle saw an issue (I. E. Key fob not present). Honda dealership diagnosed the problem as a "faulty starter motor". Replacement isn't covered by the remaining warranty (bumper to bumper is expired, but power train hasn't). Dealer replacement quote is $693. 80.

50 Starter problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. When the contact attempted to start the vehicle, the starter failed intermittently. 51 Starter problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2018

Difficulty starting. Keyless entry senses key but fails to start when brake is depressed and ignition button is pressed. Happening multiple times/week and becoming more frequent. Often starts after 2-3 attempts. Not resolved by replacing battery, resolving battery sensor recall, or checking fuel pump. Problem seems to be starter and has left me stranded when car does not start.

52 Starter problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2018

My 2015 Honda Accord with abt 70,000 miles on it; the car wouldn't start, the engine wouldn't turn. In the process of troubleshooting we discovered that his starter went out. We called the dealership and they said it wasn't covered under warranties. Just a few months ago, our neighbor had exactly the same problem - he has a 2015 Honda Accord and his car's starter went out. He spent some $700 fixing it and it was only a few months out of 3 years 36,000 miles warranty. There seems to be a high rate of starter failures on newer Honda Accords, which may necessitate a recall.

53 Starter problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2018

I am taking my 2015 Honda Accord sport to Honda dealer (southbay Honda, milpitas, CA) to complete "replace battery mgmt sensor" recall 17v-418 completion. My car has started showing unique problem of not starting on first try, some times it starts on first try, other times it takes more than one try to start. This is frustrating & scary to get stranded. Car is less than 22k miles (bought Dec. 2014). After looking at internet this is common problem & should be consider recall of "replace starter". Dealer are quoting around $1000 to replace starter, should be covered as it's defective Honda part. To your knowledge there are many Honda Accord 2013-2015 owners with similar issue. . Read more...

54 Starter problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2018

The car would give a hard time starting once a week, this started 3 weeks ago, then last week it just stopped turning on, after trying couple of times , I turned it on, drove to the Honda dealership were they told me that I needed a new battery and a new starter. They would not cover it since the car passed the 36,000miles, it had 42,000miles. I noticed another car similar to mine had the same problem at the dealership, so I went online to research this issue and found out that Honda knew about this problem happening quiet often and did not issue a recall as well as them having a class action law suit regarding this matter. I have done all the work at a Honda dealership and have documents and receipts it costed me about 840$$ which is a lot of money for a relatively new car.

55 Starter problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2018

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and a grinding noise was heard. The vehicle was taken to university Honda of florence (250 cox creek pkwy, florence, al 35630 (256) 760-7400) where the contact was informed that the starter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and was awaiting on a response from the dealer. The failure mileage was 45,000.

56 Starter problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2017

The starter grinds at startup.

57 Starter problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2016

2015 Accord has had starter problems. It had a third starter installed and will be going back for the fourth. It has had starter issues for over three years. Will continue to replace until Honda steps up to plate and fixes its issues. When pressing the start button a continuous grinding noise starts but the car does not. It may take up to 20 times to finally start the car. Sometimes it won't start at all. Do not have exact dates or milage of each occurence, has happened numerous times.

58 Starter problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2016

Car failed to start because brake pedal refused to depress slightly and close its part of the starter circuit. That failure-to-depress rendered the dashboard push-button inoperable. Honda dealer claimed that brake pedal use during parking had over-pressurized the brake pedal cylinder, which would gradually bleed off. That bleed off took anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours, in 3 separate instances. This problem renders this $30,030 car useless for taking a pregnant wife to the hospital or for a myriad of other have-to-start-the-car-now reasons.
