1 Software problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2020

Since I purchased the 2017 Honda Accord hybrid touring vehicle in oct 2016 I have had issues with the stereo system maintaining a carplay connection from my iphone x to the car stereo via the cable connection. It started out as occasional disconnections and periodic losses of music or sound from my iphone to complete random reboots of stereo and above stereo display. In the last year I can no longer use carplay at all without my phone losing connection when using google maps, apple maps, pandora, phone calls or any carplay apps. My stereo now constantly reboots itself, stops sounds from being emitted from phone, randomly disconnects my voice during phone calls but shows connected still, stereo freezes and so does the screen above the stereo, randomly shows android (stereo system designed on android software) errors. Sometime I can disconnect and reconnect the cable and that solves it while other times the only fix is for me to pull over, turn off my car and turn it back on. I have replaced the cable multiple times with direct from apple cables and most recently got the new iphone 12 pro and it all still happens. The dealership has replaced the stereo a few weeks ago and when I dropped my car off I had the iphone x and when I picked it up I had the new iphone 12 pro with new cable and on my way home I used google maps and made a call and with the new stereo installed the Honda stereo completely rebooted itself as it had previously with iphone x and replaced cables. This is not a one off as little google research shows others experiencing the same thing and Honda has other vehicles with a myriad of carplay and stereo problems. I spent almost $3k more for this car over the Toyota comparable at the time specifically because I travel and wanted carplay to use apple maps or google maps and now I can't use carplay at all.

2 Software problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

I have a 2017 Accord - in September 2019 the backup camera lcd screen started to flicker for a week or so each time I put the car into reverse. When I changed the camera angle it would sometimes come back and work while backing up, but then it went to a black screen altogether. It's been black ever since, the camera goes on while I reverse but nothing shows on the lcd screen but the guiding yellow lines. I went to fix the camera today myself and noticed the recall of the 2018 Accords. I think the same issue is happening with the 2017 Accord. I'd like to see Honda take responsibility rather than have to pay another $200-$350 to fix this. I am out of warranty. Here is what I found that brough me to this site. Vehicles recalled: 232,140 of the 2018 Honda Accord sedan and 2019 Honda insight hybrid sedan. The problem: the backup camera may fail because of bad software. The fix: dealers will reprogram the display audio unit software, at no charge to owners. How to contact the manufacturer: the recall is expected to begin Nov. 5, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are k2g and v2f. Nhtsa campaign number: 18v629.
