1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2025

Sporadically, and after driving at least 10 minutes continuously, a static sound begins out of my rear speakers and increases in volume quickly. It starts coming out of front speakers as well so that it appears to be coming out of all speakers and it is extremely loud. It is so loud that it sounds like I'm in front of a speaker at a concert, and it is hugely distracting while operating the vehicle. The audio is not on, the bluetooth is not connected, and there is no way to get the sound to stop. Even turning off and on the car does not stop it. This has happened 6 times in the last 3 weeks and it is so loud and distracting - bordering on deafening - that it is nearly impossible to continue driving the car. Online research indicates that others have had this issue as well. When I went to the Honda dealer, they were unable to replicate the issue but said that they had seen 2 people with the same problem in the last week and were nearly confident it was an audio head unit issue that is known within certain years and models of Hondas. They were unwilling to officially diagnose it without replication but I told them that I would be willing to pay to fix this issue because it is a safety hazard and then I was told that the parts were on backorder and I'd have to wait until they arrive in - no estimate provided. Please help - it is very difficult and distracting to drive this car when the issue occurs, and it's impossible to predict when it will occur next.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2025

This is happening a couple of times a week now. With the audio system locking up while driving making for the audio volume to not be able to be adjusted. They audio system is locking up and there is no way to reset the system while driving. There is not always a place to stop and shut the car off then restart -which is how I have been dealing with this issue for many years now. Sometimes, I am on the highway in heavy traffic while this happens. It is a massive distraction having to listen to blaring commercials that have increased volumes that jars drivers' focus on the situation surrounding me. I have tried holding the power button down for over 5 straight minutes without anything helping. I have tried multiple buttons hoping for a reset. . . Still nothing. Today, this happened again in heavy traffic without a place to stop and do an ignition off/on. . . As this is how I have been dealing with this issue. The audio system has no volume knob, only flattened button. This happening in heavy traffic is dangerous. My car is a 2017 Honda Accord touring hybrid. It appears that this is a known issue with other owners of the 2016-17 Honda Accord touring hybrid. This has been happening since the car was new. It's really old and dangerous.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2025

The backup camera is no longer working on my vehicle. There was no recall when there was one for other Honda vehicles with the same issue.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2025

Issues with the radio. Unbearable, ear piercing static coming from speakers. You can turn the volume all the way down and even power off the radio and it continues to have loud static coming from speakers. You have to pull over and turn the car off to stop the noise and alot of times it will not stop. There is no way to stop the noise. The car had this same issue when I bought it from a Honda dealer. The dealer replaced the radio and 1 year later im having the same issue and the radio is 1 month out of warranty. I was quoted 1400 dollars for a new radio plus labor. Just doing a quick google search, this seems to be a common problem with this year make and model vehicle. There are no recalls for the radio at this time. This is definitely a safety issue that needs to be addressed. Ive contacted Honda America and have a case started. . Please follow up on this issue. . . Thanks.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2025

On three different occasions earlier this year 2025, my car electric system would completely shut down. My safety was put at risk because this would often happen while I was driving. After three different diagnoses at two different dealerships, the san francisco dealership found that there was a fuse shortage and it was an electrical problem. They were able to fix it and I paid out of pocket. Now, in July 2025, I was again on the road driving when I get an error message on the dash: emission system, problem, and cooling system problem. I was not able to accelerate my car. Again my safety was at risk. I had to stop on the street, turned off my car, and when I tried turning it back on, the engine would not start, but the electric system was fine. My car is a 2017 hybrid Honda Accord – it is way too new to be having all of these issues. I always take my car for maintenance regularly and my car is in good condition.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2025

The audio system in my car has gone bust - there is a periodic loud static noise that blasts out of the speakers at maximum volume and can not be turned off, even by setting the audio power off. It was brought to the Honda dealership and confirmed the audio system. The noise is so loud and startling that it causes the driver to easily lose focus on the road. It can also be so unexpecting that it can cause sudden jolts in movement, endangering the roadway. When looking online, this seems to be a common issue with the 2017 Accord model ex-l as there have been many forums of people posting their same complaints. To make matters worse, there are no after-market replacements that work with the ex-LS dual screen setup and getting the actual part is in indefinite back order. It appears that Honda simply wants us to cope with the dangerous issue.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2025

Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a recurring and potentially dangerous issue with my 2017 Honda Accord ex-l. The vehicle emits sudden, extremely loud static and high-pitched noise from the speakers—often occurring in hot weather and even when the audio system is turned off. This unpredictable noise is not only startling but also prevents me from hearing surrounding traffic, horns, or emergency vehicles, significantly increasing the risk of an accident. It poses a serious distraction and safety hazard. I have found numerous similar complaints from other Honda owners online, indicating this may be a widespread issue. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this as a potential safety-related defect that may warrant a recall. I listed the date below around when this started occurring. It happens multiple times per week. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2025

I own a 2017 Honda Accord “touring” model that has developed an intermittent audio problem (described below) that is a safety issue because it causes serious driver distraction and impatience to reach a destination to turn the car off. There is no way for the driver to stop the problem without turning the car completely off. Despite numerous reports from others (documented below), Honda has not issued a recall. It is hoping that a “goodwill discount” of 40% or so (offered only if the owner knows to demand it) will prevent a recall. The only fix is to have a Honda dealer replace the oem “audio head unit”. Without the “goodwill discount”, the installed cost is $1,400 - $1,600 to fix a condition that is obviously out of warranty. The problem is that in hot (85+) weather, even with the audio system turned off, a modest “scratching” sound begins from all speakers, gradually becoming a loud, continuous static which lasts for 3 or 4 minutes and then gradually tapers off to silence. If I turn audio power on while this is occurring, the static instantly becomes intolerably loud until I turn audio power off; then the scratching continues for a few more minutes until it gradually disappears. When this problem is not occurring, the audio system plays normally. This problem is significantly frequent. 10,000 to 15,000 such cars were sold. •carcomplaints. Com lists 170 such complaints under the electrical system and other problems categories. •carproblemzoo. Com lists 99 general equipment complaints; the static noise issue stands out as the most common recent problem. . •driveaccord. Net, a popular owner forum: “2017 Accord radio static” has around 470 posts. That is a total of about 700+ reports of this problem, on 5 -7% of these vehicles. That is a safety problem that must be recalled! problem first occurred in may 2025. More frequent in hot weather: 3 times in last 3 days. Symptoms occur randomly and don't last long enough to reach a dealer for diagnosis.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2025

Worst on hot days. Stereo will crackle and emit high decible, piercing, and inconsistent tones and static. Highly distracting. Only known "fix" is to turn off the car and wait for it to cool and hope it doesn't happen again. Typically starts in rear speakers. Will increase volume suddenly and without warning. Unable to hear traffic noises around vehicle. Turning off audio system does not work to fix it. Will happen on days 80 degrees or more. Full car sun shades did not prevent it from occuring. Numerous online incidents found.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

During particularly hot days when you first start the car the audio system suddenly lets out an extremely loud static noise that does not go away, even if you turn down the volume to zero, or turn off the system completely. It is very jarring and a dangerous distraction while driving. It has not been seen by a dealer, but online testimonies show they only opt to replace the unit out of the consumer's pocket. No warning messages pop up.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

Loud static noise from speakers when sound is off / muted , this is a concern to my safety because it’s completely loud making my ears hurt, not only that it’s very difficult to hear around my surroundings with this loud static noise playing, definitely not safe to drive and there is no way to turn it off unless I completely turn off the vehicle. It has not been inspected by anyone or dealership which is why I have made this report.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2025

Abs module went out, from what I’m reading it’s a common issue among Hondas.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

There appears to be a model-wide problem with 2017 Honda Accord audio system that manifests in screeching static noise through audio speakers (whether the radio is turned on or not) at decibels in excess of 100 (sounds like a lawnmower being operated inside a closed 4 door sedan). This noise comes with no warning (or waring lights) and shocks the senses that can cause erratic vehicle operation. Once the noise starts, it will last varying lengths of time that include in excess of 12 minutes. The only means to make it stop is by turning off the car, which is not easy or safe if highway driving. The screeching is so loud, it is impossible to hear emergency sirens or honking horns, making this a serious safety issue. This is also very distracting -- imagine a passenger screaming in your ear as loud as they can non-stop -- simply not conducive to safe driving! Honda of America acts like they have never heard of this issue (I can see that many, many 2017 Accord owners have reported this very issue over the last several years). Dealer diagnostics reveal nothing. They only recommend replacing the entire audio head unit ($4k) and owner expense. For a car that is only 7 years old, it is not working as intended. A recall seems warranted. This has been going on over a month now and is getting progressively worse. Please help us. [xxx] please open this video to hear the problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

The head unit and stereo system will play static non stop at the highest volume possible. Turning the radio off, the sound off, etc. Nothing stops it. It is dangerous, you can not hear anything and it is extremely distracting. The static being played through all the speakers at top volume with no way to make it stop is not safe to be driving with and is liable to drive someone mad.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2024

My audio unit is blaring static noise at the highest decibel level possible.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2024

Driver door and driver side rear door lock actuators both failed very untimely. Car has 55,000 miles on it and is garage kept and accident free. I needed to replace both components as the doors would not lock or unlock and posed an extreme safety hazard. Also the alternator needed to be replaced very untimely making me feel as though there are further electrical issues with this vehicle. I contacted Honda and have not received a response in over two weeks.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2024

The car makes loud static noise that is distracting. The noise is sudden and does not go away by lowering the volume. This has bee a common safety hazard reported by many Honda Accord 9th generation owners. American Honda refuses to recall vehicles to solve this problem. Apparently, it is common knowledge that the audio/navigation head unit is the reson for this loud random static noise.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2024

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, they were unable to hear the sirens of an emergency vehicle because there was a loud static noise coming through the speakers. The failure occurs intermittently. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer, the failure had not been diagnosed, and it had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that there was no recall for it. The failure mileage was 81,000.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2024

The speakers will blast static noise while driving even when the radio is turned off. The engine will need to be powered off to stop the noise. After powering on and driving again the static noise returns within 5 minutes. This is very distracting. This has been happening intermittently for over a month. The audio fuse can be removed to stop the noise from occurring. Unfortunately, this fuse also disables the backup camera and side camera, not an ideal fix. I have mp4 format video available that can be shared via gmail google drive.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2024

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard an abnormal sound, and the infotainment system was intermittently inoperable. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2024

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 mph, the speaker system was broadcasting abnormal and extremely loud white noise and static popping. The contact stated that the abnormal sound was so loud that even conversational speech was not heard above the abnormal static. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent and occurred at various speeds. The contact stated that the failure occurred whether the radio was on or off. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while the radio volume was turned off, the abnormal static sound was heard. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2024

The speakers and sound system emit a very loud static sound that is often accompanied by computerized sounds. It usually happens after I've been driving the vehicle for about 10-15 minutes. It seems to be coming from the head unit/radio unit, but the sound will continue even if I completely turn off the radio/sound system. It's so loud that it's often hard to concentrate and is going to damage my hearing if it persists. It started happening shortly after my car turned over to 100k miles. There are hundreds and maybe thousands of other Honda Accord owners who have posted online about this very same issue (usually 2017) and the Honda dealers recommend replacing the entire unit to the tune of $4-5,000. This is a manufacturer defect!! the only thing that stops the noise is to pull over, turn the car off, and wait 10-15 minutes, but sometimes the sound starts right up again. I have not yet taken my car to the dealer or a repair shop due to the hundreds/thousands of other posts online stating the exact same problem and the recommendation by Honda being to replace a part that was manufactured defectively. The sound is very loud and I cannot drive my car very far unless I just want to put up with it and try to ignore it. Even if I put headphones in my ears (which I don't when driving as that's unsafe), I can still hear the static. Honda needs to issue a recall for this problem and fix it!.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2024

The audio unit on my 2107 Honda Accord will (seemingly) randomly produce loud, increasing static noise from the speakers that last from 5-10 minutes. There is no way to stop the noise other than to pull over and turn off the car. While that noise is happening nothing else can be heard, other traffic and especially emergency vehicles. This has not been confirmed by a dealer yet or inspected by anyone. (many online forums bear witness to this problem) no warning lights appeared on the vehicle.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2024

While driving 40 mph, I was unable to hear the sirens of an emergency vehicle because there was a loud static noise coming through the speakers. Even, I already turned off audio. Loud static noise still persisted. It will distract driver's attention. The failure was intermittent. I have sent my car to deal but they said they couldn't find the root cause. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that there was no recall on the VIN for the issue. The failure mileage was 68000.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2024

Speakers are making loud static noise whenever the radio is turned on or off. After observation, the car does it quite often in heat, especially in florida weather. It is now doing it in cooler temperatures. Now that there is permanent damage. Sometimes the loudness is very overwhelming. You’re not able to even hear yourself talk in the car. You’re not able to hear if someone is pressing their horn at you because of how loud the noises are. Honda hasn’t offered any solutions to the problem. I have called several times to report this issue. I’ve seen quite a number of people who are having the same issue as I am. There’s a forum on reddit. There’s people on youtube. This is an ongoing issue and it needs to be replaced or repaired. I was told by Honda that is an issue with the wiring of the car when the car was manufactured.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2024

Ac is not working on Honda Accord lx 2017. There is a refrigerant leak. Now the defogger does not work causing safety issue while driving if the windsheild requires defogging. Honda dealer diagnosed that the ac compressor is leaking from the shaft seal which cannot be repaired unless entire compressor is changed. Honda does have recall/extended warranty for ac compressor shaft seal other models such as civic and crv but on Honda Accord 2017 models they have not extended the warranty on compressor shaft seal yet.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2024

There is a very loud noise, static-like noise that is coming from my speakers. It won't stop if I turn the stereo off. When the temperature is high from either the outside weather or the heater, it seems to happen then. It now does it all the time if I've been driving for about 20mins. Everything is stock in my car and not modified. There are no warning lights, I have not taken it in to have it looked at yet. I've read that others have had the exact same issue with this model.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2024

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an abnormally, loud static noise would emit from the vehicle without warning. The contact stated that the failure would occur intermittently and that the contact would be forced to pull over and restart the vehicle for the failure to stop. As a result of the failure, the contact experienced a persistent ring noise in both ears, mainly the left ear. The contact sough medical treatment from a doctor and would use ear plugs while driving the vehicle to prevent further ear damage. The manufacturer was initially notified about the failure, the contact was informed that the manufacturer was aware of the failure but that a recall had yet to be placed on the vehicle. The manufacturer referred the contact to a local dealer for assistance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was given an estimate for the repair; the contact was later informed that the part needed to repair the vehicle was on backorder. The contact reached back out to manufacturer and a complaint was filed. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2024

The vehicle turn off and on while driving on the highway, is like the engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. I'm aware there's no recall on my vehicle, however, it's a known issue that Honda had voluntarily recall approximately 2. 6 million 2017-2020 Honda vehicles in the united states to replace their fuel pumps, for free due to a similar issue. I have experience this issue of the vehicle shutting down then on while driving in the last couple of weeks and it's increasing each day. The Accord was bought for my son to use, if he encounter an accident due to this fuel pump issue and he lose his life, someone would have to be held accountable.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2024

Four lights appeared simultaneously in my dash. It drives fine, just had brakes and rotors replaced, have new tires, the dealership is saying it’s the abs module that needs replaced and this part alone without labor costs $2200. I have researched and this is an extremely common issue with these Hondas. My vehicle has under 50,000 miles and is in great condition, it’s not feasible that this should be from wear and tear. And it’s occurring with many others of this model and a range of years of these with Honda.

31 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2024

My back up camera was replaced in 2018 due to the original one installed during the manufacturing state being defective and going out while still under warranty. Last year my camera quit projecting an image on the screen. I can only see the directional lines on the screen when in reverse that change color and appears to work if I am out of the parking lines and the screen is black. Every once in a while the camera will flash an image for a nanosecond on the screen before going black. I have gone to Honda regarding this but they won't do anything because my VIN is a 2017. This is a safety issue since I am unable to see when backing out. Please consider extending this recall to include the 2017 Honda Accords. I am sure I am not the only one with this issue.

32 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2024

The car emits a very loud noise through the speakers. This is not a radio issue. The noise cannot be stopped by turning off the radio. The noise is extremely loud, so loud you cannot hear police or fire sirens, anyone honking or even someone trying to get your attention from outside the vehicle. This is a known problem to Honda, but the company considers it a problem with the stereo system and not a danger. Let me tell you, it is a danger. Imagine not being able to hear emergency alerts while driving toward a tornado or powerful storm. Or not being able to hear a police or ambulance siren due to the noise coming through the speakers. Again, the stereo system is off, there is no phone connected to the system but the loud static persists until you turn the car off. It then comes back after a minute or two of driving. Honda north american requested I have a diagnostic done at the dealership to confirm the issue with the head unit. That costs 200 dollars, but I did it, even though there are multiple complaints online and with the company on this same issue. The dealer replicated the issue. There are no warnings about the problem until the sound overwhelms the driver. It takes about a minute to begin and will not stop. I can provide video upon request.

33 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2024

I have a 2017 Honda Accord hybrid. The audio system or radio has now become dangerous. I filed a complaint with american Honda and they said I had to take it to the dealer for diagnostic and that no recall or technical service bulletin on my car audio exists. I created a youtube video to show the problem. I contacted my local Honda dealer but they want me to pay a diagnostic fee. It is over $190 to diagnose the audio system and no guarantee to fix. Replacement is estimated to be around $2,000. American Honda customer service should waive the diagnosis fee or reimburse me for any such independent dealer diagnosis fee. Here is my youtube video complaint link: https://youtube. Com/shorts/rfglkr-fjds? si=a4rl0j6z8ef2n3ww I am asking for Honda America to pay for or reimburse me for getting a diagnostic on my audio system from any independent Honda dealer. I am asking that based on previous customer complaints searchable on the internet that a technical service bulletin or recall of audio systems for Honda Accords from 2017 be created. I am asking for a free replacement of my audio system despite the warranty being expired because the deafening and piercing sounds are a hazard and danger to drivers like myself. There is terrible and very loud and piercing static coming from the audio system and speakers even when the audio system is turned off on the 2017 Honda Accord hybrid. It's intermittent but happens very often and lasts a long time. Many forums also describe similar problems across Hondas and years. Please recall or service bulletin this problem. The sound of static is deafening and can't be volume controlled. I have been suffering from deafening sounds of intermittent static from the audio system in my 2017 Honda Accord hybrid. I can't afford to replace the audio system and there are lots of online comments from other owners with similar problems. Some say it is antenna or loose wiring, but whatever the cause, it is dangerous and NHTSA should recall these cars.

34 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2024

Speakers or audio system. Randomly the speakers will get static or noise that comes through it with nothing plugged into it (usb or bluetooth) and the radio can be off even. Safety issue that it gets progressively louder to the point where at hard to stay in car and drive it. Have to stop the car, turn it off and turn it on to keep driving but the sound returns if driving for more then 10 min. This might be issue that others having as well with 2016-2017 models. Below is link to audio from someone else that had similar issue https://m. Youtube. Com/watch?v=kmrn_chrego.

35 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2024

Abs, traction, eps, and brake lights stay on. This causes the traction and brakes not to work properly. Bought my car 10 months ago from Honda and this started about 3 months after. The solenoid is faulty and have heard from several other owners the same. This can be a serious problem for drivers. Part is not available from private auto stores. Only dealership which causes more concern and they should be held liable for components that fault in breaking the vehicle. 2017 Honda Accord. Was inspected by Honda on purchase 2023 is what they say. Took in for a oil change 2024 and they do full inspection for free and when I brought it up they said they didn't check it with all lights on.
