Automatic Transmission Column Shift Problems of Honda Accord

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the gear shifter separated from the handle while attempting to change gears. The contact placed her finger into the left side of the gear shifter in order to shift the gear handle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the gear shifter plastic holder had melted in the gear shaft. As a result, the gear shifter knob and cover needed to be replaced. 4-cyl engine shutdown at traffic light while idling. Car would not restart, windows and moonroof would open but not close, shift lever would not go out of "park". By some miracle driver and car survived rush hour traffic at dusk with assistance from police officer. Car towed to Honda dealer who replaced 50 amp fuse (actually a multiple fuse) labeled "ig". Dealer advised by Honda to giggle wires to try to duplicate problem. Problem did not reoccur and dealer returned car after 4 days. Old part not available. I doubt that the fuse was defective and suspect problem will reoccur. 4300 miles on car, an ex.

Transmission is slipping. When trying to get out into traffic transmission completely disengages, and the rpms go way up. Then, transmission catches, and vehicle is ready to move forward.
