4 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/22/2018

Since last 5 years I noticed loud grinding noise at startup, only in the morning when I first start the engine. Noise does not happen on startups during the day and the engine runs fine. Just the annoying about 2 second long scratch noise at first start in the morning. But since last 2-3 weeks it has gone worst and get that noice even when I start driving and every time I slow down and start speed up again it get that noice like gear slipping or grinding noise until I reach to faster speed like above 30-35. Its happening every time now. On Honda's website it defines problem as "engine rattles at cold start-up" just difference for me is now its happening all the time when I am driving. And I was waiting for hope to get recall notification since it's happening to all 2008 Honda Accord customers. Here is the link of Honda website which has more information . Https://Honda. Oemdtc. Com/219/engine-rattles-at-cold-start-up-2008-2013-Honda which even says the 2008-2012 all Honda Accord models has this problem. So before I schedule an appointment to dealership I thought to take this step to mention about common problem of particular 2008 Honda Accord to NHTSA united states department of transportation hoping I will get some kind of help or solution.

5 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/09/2018

Takata recall: my transmission of my vehicle needs to be replaced because a faulty part was used in the vehicle. The transmission slips and will cost $3,000 to fix because Honda used a bad part. Honda has recalled transmissions in Honda Accords years in close proximity of the vehicles year. They however did not do this one and I feel like I shouldn't have to pay for their mistake.

7 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/08/2017

Transmission was recalled (NHTSA reference #04v176000) in 2004 for over heating problem. There was no follow up to see if repairs specified in the recall were effective over the expected life of the transmission. Symptoms started about two weeks ago. Transmission pauses before going into gear. Then transmission slips and engine revs. After one week, transmission quit pulling as I was attempting to enter the interstate. Car would not get up to speed and transmission quit pulling entirely, leaving me stranded on side of interstate. Transmission fluid black and burnt. Sounds like gear jumping teeth.

9 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/06/2016

The automatic transmission slips and jerks when shifting gears--it is worse when I stop, the engine idles, and then severely jerks when I accelerate, but the jerking motion also happens going up inclines. It is so bad, it has caused broken motor mounts. I have no doubt that the transmission is eventually going to fail, which could be hazardous while driving. Though I take good care of my car, I thought that maybe it was just older and the transmission was naturally failing, but doing some research, I found this to be a common problem with Honda's transmissions in general, but particularly with the '02 Accord. It has been happening since 2013, but I will put today's date as it still is happening. I feel like this issue is so prevalent among Honda owners that Honda really should do right by their customers and recall the transmission.

10 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/30/2016

Transmission recall automatic transmission slips/and jerks through gears.

11 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/25/2016

4 cylinder automatic transmission started slipping during acceleration from a complete stop. Transmission would cause the car to her forward when breaking and after coming to a complete stop. The transmission completely failed at just over 54,000 miles and will not upshift. The car will only go about 20 mph, when the accelerator is engaged, it only revs up the engine and the vehicle redlines, the transmission will not shift into a higher gear.

13 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2014 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/12/2016

(1/12/2016) while trying to merge onto the highway the car jolted and the engine revved up and the transmission disengaged causing the car to stall. The car behind me came barreling up on my bumper nearly crashing into me. This is a very dangerous issue. Had my children been in the car, and the driver behind me not been so alert (praise the lord), this could have had devastating consequences. After that instance the transmission kept slipping and the engine would rev up again and again, the transmission would not engage, and the car would jolt forward and back. This car only has 112,000 miles on it. All our maintenance and repairs have been per schedule and performed at the Honda dealership so there is no excuse for this transmission to fail this early. I checked the transmission fluid to see if that may have contributed to the issue, however it was full and clean (thanks to regular maintenance). In researching this further I found several complaints about this model experiencing the same issue. It turns out that there has been a recall of over 1 million vehicles on this very problem back in 2004 (ntsa reference #04v176000, April 15, 2004). There has also been a class action lawsuit covering several Honda models related to this issue. This failure is unacceptable given Honda's reputation for quality and dependability. Not to mention the fact that I have 4 children, and had this been under different circumstances could have had catastrophic results. Please Honda; do the right thing and fix this issue.

14 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/22/2015

This seems to be a common issue as just looking it up today another person suffered the same issue I have, down to the exact conversation with Honda. We ahve had the '04 Honda Accord for 4ish years now. It has driven great since we bought it and tested fine with the Honda dealer before purchasing. All of a sudden we started experiencing some slipping of the transmission. We immediatly had the system flushed and filled and all seemed to be good, for about a week. 3 days before christmas, my wife was getting onto a busy section of a major highway and the transmission slipped and she was unable to accelorate nearly getting run over by a tractor trailer. She was able to pull over and get home safely. I did some research and found the recall notice based off the models make and year. Searching the VIN came back as not affected by the recall, even though we are experiencing the exact problems outlined in the transmission recall notice. I called Honda and spoke to a very friendly representative that simply informed me the same thing another customer was told the same day. . . "your VIN doesn't fall into the list of effected units. You should have a Honda repair center diagnose and repair the issue. " I hope that an investigation is started and this is found to be a known issue and Honda works with all current owners to get this repaired before someone gets seriously injured.

17 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/18/2015

First occurrence, Tuesday August 18, 2015 driving into work, transmission slipped, rpm’s increased with no additional forward motion by car. Then stopped and went to back into parking stall and car would not engage into reverse, finally it did started researching possible issues and found tons of recall and complaints online, driving home the car all of a sudden stuttered and downshifted violently this time it produced a “check engine light” (obdc: p0741), I called Honda cust service and spoke with jason, he created a case # for me and stated I would need to have it diagnosed by a Honda dealer and call them back. I called back the same number but this time option 7, customer service rep read thru my case and determined that because the VIN did not indicate being part of the recall, the age of the vehicle and mileage, Honda would not do anything to assist me. My transmission fluid smells burnt. I now have had to pay a transmission shop $3464. 65 for a rebuilt transmission.

19 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1999 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/16/2015

20 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/12/2015

I was driving on the interstate, moved into the left lane and attempted to pass, stepping down on the gas to accelerate. Suddenly my (automatic) transmission slipped completely out of gear, my tachometer red-lined as the engine revved hard, and the card decelerated rapidly. I was nearly hit from behind but fortunate that the driver behind me was paying attention. I slowed rapidly, but my brake lights didn't come on, because I wasn't braking! my car slowed to dangerously low speeds in the left lane of the highway. Every time I tried to give the car gas it was as if the transmission was in neutral and wouldn't provide drive. Finally at around 20mph it started gripping, but if I tried to accelerate much the transmission would slip again. I was able to merge back into the right lane, which was scary because the cars behind me were going full highway speeds. I was able to pull the car off onto the shoulder of the road. I drove along the shoulder very slowly until I could make it to the first exit and limp my car to a repair shop. My transmission needed a complete rebuild. No only should this not happen on a car with relatively low mileage that has been well maintained, but this failure was dangerous! it happened completely without warning at high speeds on the interstate. It caused a rapid deceleration and a loss of control of the vehicle, and placed me in a very dangerous position trying to regain control. I researched my problem and found that Honda had issued a recall for automatic transmissions on a large number of 2003/2004 Accords. I checked my VIN number against the recall (NHTSA recall number: 04v-176) and found that my VIN was not covered by the recall, even though I experienced the exact same failure that the recall describes. Why my VIN specifically was not included in the recall is completely unacceptable considering this is a known problem.
