36 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/17/2013

I had transmission failure about a year ago, the transmission started to slip and didn't make any shifting, it was dangerous because the car stoped many time while I was driving, so I decide to fix it , and yesterday 9/16/2013 it happened again, same problem with transmission.

37 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/22/2013

I was driving on the highway and noticed that my rpm increased all of the sudden. After my rpm increased my vehicle started jerking and was not responding. The transmission started slipping into neutral. I managed to get home driving 10 mph. I have looked online and this is a major issues with these cars! Honda needs to recall these transmissions!.

38 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/13/2013

We experienced a transmission failure while driving on I-77 in west virginia. The transmission all of a sudden began spewing transmission fluid, and started to slip whil driving up a hill. We had to frantically get out of the way of a tractor-trailer, but it was difficult because the transmission was slipping and the car had no power.

39 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/29/2013

While driving on a busy CA freeway going 70mph in the fast lane, suddenly the car started (I thought) braking very violently. I crossed the lanes to get to the shoulder all the while it was still braking violently. Narrowly missed being rear ended several times. We had it towed to our Honda mechanic and it turns out the transmission was slipping from 4th to 2nd gear. I have subsequently read numerous stories exactly like mine. Looks like Honda knows of the problem and is waiting for someone to be killed or seriously injured before they do anything about it. Yes, the car is 10 years old but this is a serious safety issue and they need to acknowledge and try to help their loyal customers before they are killed or injured.

40 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

I was preparing to exit a parking area when the engine rpms jumped up to 4000+ but the car did not accelerate. The transmission was in d but the car would not move. I allowed the rpms to drop to 600, shifted to n then back to d. Repeated that process a 2nd time and the transmission did engage. The next day the local Honda dealer checked but could not verify a transmission problem. At 61740 miles the same transmission slipping occurred in traffic. The transmission is now being replaced. We purchased the car in November 2002. This vehicle had an easy life and less than 62000 miles. The 2004 recall for Accord v6 automatic transmission 2nd gear did not fix the problem.

41 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/10/2013

This started off as an intermittent issue but progressively got worse (twice a day) until Honda flashed an update [a2a690] to my car. Now it's intermittent again (once or twice a week). The problem always happens from a cold start. The issue is after cranking my car, when I put the car in gear (reverse or drive) the transmission doesn't engage. I can press the gas pedal and the rpm's will shoot up but the mph doesn't move, it's like the transmission is slipping, if I don't let off the gas the transmission will abruptly engage and can be a serious safety issue. The first time this happened I was in the parking garage at work and this issue almost caused me to crash into a parked vehicle. Now I have to make sure it doesn't do this every time I put my car in gear. I've been to two different Honda dealers for a total of 4 times and they say they can't ever reproduce the issue. Here's a link to a video of the issue when I caught it on video. . Read more...

42 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/16/2013

After Accord ex-l with 2. 4l engine & cvt sits overnight in garage it does not back out normally. Must press accelerator to get movement. Normal just taking foot off brake & vehicle to roll out on own. Press accelerator to get car to go, rpm's increase & transmission feels like slipping when backing into the street. Shift to drive & cvt slips until travel ~100 feet. Then cvt seems to respond normally to accelerator. We have to back into street with blind hill so this is definitely a safety issue. Took car to Honda dealer for this sporadic, recurring problem on 4/16/13, on 11/12/13 & left w/ dealer for few days & on 02/10/14 & left w/ dealer 9 days. Car was driven by service personnel & service mgr. They could not get car to duplicate problem. I opened case w/ Honda in CA on 02/07/2014 and discussed w/ their rep, [xxx] opened case no. [xxx]. As dealer could not duplicate problem, [xxx] closed case &said Honda would keep on file & reopen if necessary. [xxx] said he had checked with their engineers & claimed they have no record of this issue with Accord. If all other complaints about this problem were closed when they couldn't duplicate problem it makes sense they have "no record" of problem. Also seems very convenient to fall back on "no record" and "couldn't duplicate" excuses to relieve Honda of any liability for what could cause accident. My wife also had same problem. Internet search yields sites that reference same problem in 2013 Accords. Carcomplaints. Com 5 complaints listed for cvt slipping. Edmunds. Com forum section on Accord has a report of owner of 2013 Accord who got cvt to "slip" w/ the svc mgr with him. Owner said he & mgr took a brand new Accord off lot & duplicated problem. Yet when svc dept put his Accord on computer it would not show a code so svc mgr told him it was "normal". Same as I was told. Most importantly this is a safety issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

43 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Transmission failed. The gears are slipping, and it lags and jerks when it does shift.

44 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/24/2013

When attempting to go into reverse after the car has sat in the garage overnight it does not want to move. The rpm's go up but no movement. Have to put the car in park, turn it off and restart the process over again. When it does engage, it will begin moving very slowly almost like the transmission is slipping. Once it gets far enough out of the garage and am able to put in drive it appears to work normal for the rest of the day. This has happened a number of times after the car has sat overnight.

45 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/16/2013

Transmission slipped when shifting from third to fourth when accelerating to get on the freeway. Luckily no one was injured but the car behind me almost rear ended me when I lost all power.

46 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/19/2012

Transmission suddenly started slipping badly at 115k miles. The transmission was always slow to get into initial gear to begin with but I thought it was normal. At near highway speeds my rpm's shot up but the car was slowing down due to the transmission just slipping, it also down shifted wit ha jerk. A notorious issue with these years of Honda's! "working" now with american Honda and hoping for a helping hand as I'm just out of the certified warranty. Honda dealer quoted $6,040 to replace the transmission with a rebuilt. I bought a Honda to have it last, is 6k worth putting into a car worth $9,000 in great condition? please help Honda!!!!.

47 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/04/2012

As I was driving the transmission (automatic, v6 Accord) kept slipping so although I was applying the gas the car was slowing down and not moving. So I had to turn the car off and then back on and it would move again for a little but and then the transmission would slip again and I would have to pull over and turn the car off and back on. I then had to have the car towed to a transmission shop for repairs. The transmission show replaced the transmission, so parts and labor came out to $1750. 00.

48 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/17/2012

Driving on I-205 and the transmission started slipping. Engine would go from normal to racing while I was driving. Got off and parked to pick up a friend and it would not go in to reverse to back out of the spot. Had to have it towed and the transmission rebuilt. For about $4500. There was only about 47000 miles on it at the time.

Failure Date: 11/07/2012

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Accord. While driving approximately 25 mph, the transmission began to slip gears and then failed to respond. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. The vehicle was able to resume in operation after waiting for one hour. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who advised the contact that the transmission would need to be replaced due to internal damage. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. 53 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/07/2012

Only 125k miles on the car. I noticed the transmission slipping when going into/out of second gear. I took it for a drive later to see if I could replicate the problem and could not. Two days later, while getting off of the interstate and turning onto the surface streets, the transmission suddenly start jolting and downshifting even though I was pressing on the gas. It continued to do so all the way to the dealer. I could not get it to go past second gear. Was told that I need a new transmission at a cost of $4,000. Have since seen that this make and model is having all kinds of problems. There are websites addressing the problems and apparently a facebook page. I also learned after the fact that there had been a recall in 2004 related to the second gear but they patched it with some cheesy kit and apparently prayed that the s -t would hit the fan after everyone's warranty expired -- which it has. The NHTSA needs to recall these vehicles and require Honda to make good on them.

54 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

I bought the car to a person who said the car started the transmission problem years ago. The transmission slips when accelerating and decelerating and responds late from fist to second shift. I made a research and many people have this problem and I found on web this car had a bulletin but only till 100 miles and 7 years, which is not the clients fault and is unfair they gave limits to this type of problem. This is a safety problem and the fix should not be limited to a warranty.

55 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/13/2012

I was driving on the highway and my transmission starting slippin and was sticking at 3000rpm's. I had brought the car to the Honda dealer where I was told "it is still safe to drive, I dont need to replace the transmission at the time and to drive the car until transmission no longer works". I took the car home and had to jump on the highway, as soon as I did this the cars transmission would not shift and left me stranded with my children. I got the car home and then had a mechanic from our area look at the car and he immediatly had told me that there has been problems with the transmissions for this car and Honda should never have told me it was safe to drive. I had to spend 2400. 00 on a new transmission. Honda needs to take care of this bill.

56 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/17/2012

Transmission slippage and failure. Similar to what I have since read online about other Honda transmission problems and recalls. Honda quoted me $4,100 to replace transmission, less a discount of 20% or net of $3,280. I have impeccable service records and local dealership (where I bought car from) agreed that I could not have done any better with maintenance--all of which was performed at the local dealership. No previous problems and transmission slippage and failure was sudden (couple of days). Most recent transmission flush was at the Honda suggested mileage.

57 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/30/2012

Driving on the highway, the automatic transmission in the v6 model (85000 miles) seemed to slip into neutral, and any application of gas red-lined the engine. Had to Dodge through highway traffic slowing down to 25 mph before the gears would engage. After exiting the highway, the same problem persisted at lower speeds; complete gear slipping. The problem persisted in d or d3. After letting the car sit turned off for a few minutes, it seems to now be functioning properly, but there is no telling when it could happen again. This is a safety issue to due sudden failure of a critical system. Had I been less fortunate on the highway, I could have been involved in a serious accident. Also, if this happened while turning through or crossing a busy intersection, I would have been broadsided. . Read more...

58 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

Transmission slipping and jerking, warning lights come on. Dealer diagnostics recommends transmission replacement at a cost of $5,069 parts & labor. Dealer says our 2002 Accord v6 not included in previous transmission recalls. 57,000 miles is very low mileage for transmission failure. We use the car in city driving mainly, some highway. Never have pulled trailers or excessive weights, so victim can't be blamed.

59 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/24/2012

Transmission was slipping when it shifted into 2nd gear for several weeks, then it just stopped. Now it will cost 3000 dollars. The car has only 69000 miles and never was abused. I was the only owner.

60 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/13/2012

Transmission is slipping between 1st and 2nd gears and after car is warm transmission hesitates from dead start. I have looked online only to find out that there are hundreds of complaints and this is definitely a safety concern, the NHTSA is failing it seems in their responsibility to address this recurring malfunction, I only hope that the death as a result of this situation that finally causes a recall is not one of my family members.

61 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/10/2012

After vehicle was driven for approx 10 minutes the car slowed down and the motor would rev up. Car parked and then tried to drive it again and same thing happened. Car would not go more than a few miles an hour, luckily was able to pull over on side of the road. Car towed to Honda dealer. Was told that the VIN # was not included in the recall. Spoke with Honda corporate and filed a claim. However they continued to say the car was not included in the recall. Dealer noted on invoice that trans slipping in 1-2 gears and slips on 1,2 up shift. Fluid is dark. I had to pay to replace the transmission on a car with only 68,472 miles.

62 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/08/2012

The contact owns a 2002 Honda Accord. The contact stated the transmission on the vehicle failed three times. The dealer stated each time the failure occurred that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. The transmission began to slip and there was also damage to the bearings. When the transmission was replaced the first time, the mileage was 21,268 miles and the second time it was 35,315. There were also metal shavings found in the transmission. The contact stated the failure was a manufacturers defect because the dealer performed all of the repairs. The current mileage was 80,000.

63 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/21/2012

Transmission would become either completely disengaged or car would lunge forward as transmission slipped into low gear. Very scary with infant in back seat. Need to completely replace transmission at 80,000 miles. This is a safety issue and a very expensive one.

64 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/10/2012

Transmission has been slipping for several months. I took it in for major service and asked mechanic about slipping transmission. He pulled pending code 1730 gear ratio. 2002 Honda Accords were known to have major transmission problems as reported by consumer reports.

65 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/08/2012

The transmission slips all the time when trying to move from a full stop the rpm's rev but no movement then it jerks.

66 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/05/2012

2003 Honda Accord. First transmission began to slip at 50,000 miles. Took to dealer for evaluation and was told nothing was wrong. About a week later, driving on west side highway going from brooklyn to home in NJ. Transmission failed and finally got it into first gear. Brought to dealer and transmission replaced at 50,000 miles. It was still under warranty at this time and did not have to pay anything. At 108,000 miles again I felt the transmission start to slip. Again, brought to mahwah Honda and told that there was nothing wrong. One week later, driving on major highway in NJ (route 17 south) the transmission failed. Luckily, at cars going 60 mph around me I was able to coast into a parking lot and not get rear ended or in an accident. Car was flat bed trucked to dealer. When we discussed the issues we knew that Honda 2003 Accords/transmissions were having, they ignored the comments. This was now the third transmission for the car, the original, the replacement at 50,000 miles and the event that just occurred. They did not want to hear anything of it. In the end, the "deal" they gave was to pay close to $3000 for the transmission (they gave a 20% discount, how kind). The service was awful. As a life long Honda customer with at least 25 years of Honda cars, I will never go back. What a shame that Honda will not live up to their prior great reputation and back up the cars and obvious defect that could have killed me driving. Shame on Honda.

67 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/06/2011

I am like other Honda owners whos car failed them. My transmission has gone out right after the 100,000 mile mark. Honda states there is no known problem with the v6 transmission but I have sites with hundreds of people who explain the same issue I had with my car. Now Honda states that checked my 2nd gear shift (which is causing stressed to the transmissions and killing them) butback in 2005 but saw no issues, but after I took it to my local Honda dealership, they state its bad! Honda secretly knows that the transmissions in this car is bad ( the whole line of cars) but refuses to fix the issue knowing it will cost the company 3500-5000 to fix everyone's car. They are risking the safety of their customers to save a buck. . Read more...

68 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

2002 Honda Accord. Consumer states premature transmission failure . The consumer stated the transmission began slipping and eventually had to be replaced. The second transmission was also defective and had to be replaced. In June 2011, the transmission began slipping again. While driving to the dealer, the check engine light illuminated. An inspection revealed the 2nd gear pressure switch had an error, along with another error which was a code for transmission failure, which were reset. In addition, the transmission was shown to be over-filled approximately 3/4 of one quart. The consumer left the dealership, but the transmission continued to slip.

69 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

This complaint is for a 2003 Honda Accord sedan, v6 engine with automatic transmission. When passing a car on a two lane road, in the middle of the pass the transmission started to slip as if it had slipped into neutral and the rpms shot up to redline and I could no longer accelerate. I was fortunate to have space to back off and narrowly avoided a head-on collision. The car was undriveable requiring towing. End result was that the transmission had to be rebuilt due to failed or defective parts. This is a serious failure which could have caused injury or death and I believe warrants a safety investigation. I have since read of numerous failures just like mine. My failure was not for lack of maintenance.

70 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/24/2011

I have a 2004 Honda accrod ex v6 and the transmission started slipping. I took it to a Honda dealer, where they told me I needed a new transmission, which may not be covered by the reacall. Driving on interstate and city roads, the car stops. The engine starts, but I am not able to accelerate the car. According to recent diagnosis, which suggests that there was a failure of the automatic transmission. I have been made aware of recent transmission issues with other 2003-2004 Honda Accord vehicles, which I find unlikely for the Honda brand.
