1 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/30/2015

November 30, 2016 the transmission started jerking and slipping. On December 1, I had the car towed to a repair facility and a repair was done. The next day. December 2 the problem recurred and the diagnosis was the transmission failed. The failure of this class of transmissions is documented through recalls. My transmission at the time of recall had new cooling lines and kits installed. No inspection was done by camera.

2 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/19/2014

This is the second occurrance of the transmission failing in this car. Originally Honda recalled the vehichle for a gear failure issue. In oct. 2004 I took the vehichle to a deallership where I lived at the time and they replaced a cooling line that supposedly would resolve the issue. Five years later the transmission failed and would not shift out of 2nd gear and I do not drive many miles per year. I took the car to aamco because Honda was talking about charging me over $3000. 00 for the repair but at no time did the representative at Honda state that this could be due to the recall and that Honda may in fact replace the transmission at no cost to me if it was determined that the failure was due to the previous recall. So I negotiated with them (Honda) and they refunded me approximately 40% of the $2150. 00 I paid to aamco in lawrenceville GA. Here I am 4 years later and the same issue has resurfaced. The transmission has locked up again and luckily I was not travelinng at any sugnificant speed. Thecar now sits in my garage with everything on it working except the transmission, same scenario as in 2010. I have received three or four recall noticies on this vehichle and have complied with Honda to take the vehicle to the dealership to resolve any issues. I am the original owner and would have expected much more reliability and dependability from this vehicle that after financing with Honda motor corp I paid in excess of $30,000. 00 in 2002. There seems tobe a pattern that after about 80,000 miles the transmissions in these vehicles are subject to fail when all warranty coverage has passed and leaving the consumer with little or no recourse. If I am correct this should surely fall under lemon law provisioning.

3 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/27/2011

After exiting the interstate after a 3-hour drive the car violently down shifted to the point the car behind me almost rear ended me. It then had trouble shifting into second and third gear and finally locking into second gear. I was able to get to where I was going through busy city streets. It was nerve wracking. If this happens on the interstate. . . Engine light came on and the green light on the d indicator of the shifter started to blink on and off. I understand this is an engineering flaw in the transmission cooling design.

4 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/20/2010

2003 Honda Accord recalled in 2004 to install oil cooling line in transmission due to overheating issue. Transmission has never shifted smoothly. Transmission started shifting very rough from second to third gear with a loud noise and shutter. After it was warmed up it would slip. Within a week it failed completely. Fluid was black and smelled burnt. Mileage was 130400. Honda dealer replaced transmission for $4500. I was not able to get any goodwill help with the cost from the dealer or Honda customer service.

5 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/01/2007

I continue to get these e-mail updates and my problems with my 2000 Honda Accord sound so eerily familiar. I had 2 major issues with my Honda beginning well before 70,000 miles. I too was meticulous about maintaining my vehicle every 3 month at the dealer. First I experienced a transmission failure. They "replaced" it under the recall. . . Within 3 weeks the "replaced" transmission failed. They "replaced" it again; I then found out that it was "replaced" with a "rebuilt" transmission and not a new one. Shortly thereafter, I experience all kinds of "check engine" light codes. It was never ending for 6 months. . . Of course everything was my fault. The dealer insisted that I replaced my own radiator fluid and that my radiator needed to be replaced. Trust me, I am not mechanical whatsoever. It was always serviced by the dealer. . . Finally I got California involved and after alot of hubabaloo it was decided that I might not need a radiator after all after an experienced tech came out to "look at the engine and cooling system". Long story short, California called me and told me that my radiator needed to be replaced and they were certain that the engine issues would go away. This was all at 70,000 miles. This car was purchased brand new from the very same dealer. I find it ironic that other folks are having the same issues and are being jerked around in the same manner. I am a single mother of an autistic child living in the ne; I could not afford the car failing me on a cold winter day in the middle of no where. I traded it in and purchased another vehicle. I want nothing to do with Honda's for the remainder of my lifetime!.

6 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/27/2005

A recall notice was received by me from Honda. I took my car to Honda and they said they would inspect the transmission. After inspection they said there was no damage and they said they installed a supplemental cooling jet. 9 months later I was in the middle of an intersection and the transmission failed. Honda replaced the transmission with a rebuilt one but they will not cover the labor cost and they also will not verify that the rebuilt transmission is any better design than the original which failed. The recall id # is 04v176000. The Honda case # is n012005-09-2200467.

8 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem of the 1996 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/15/2002

I have had my car for 10 months with repeated trips to the dealer and numerous calls to the point of purchase, with no results, I have been given the run-a-round to many times to count. I have a 1996 Honda Accord and it has a head gasket problem and the engine is having to be rebuilt. The head gasket and engine are badly water damaged and warped, and it is costing me in excess of $2,400. 00 to get it repaired. I was told that repairs were made to my car but never received a work order proving that said work was actually done. I am trying to seek protection under the lemon law so any help you can give me in that effort would be greatly appreciated!.
