Failure Date: 01/01/2023

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55-60 mph, the check engine, power steering, traction control, and tpms warning lights illuminated. The vehicle lost power, but the driver was able to pull over safely. The contact stated that the gear shift indicator was blank. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who retrieved code: p2138 (incorrect voltage position sensor and throttle body sensor). The throttle body and accelerator pedal were replaced, but the failure recurred. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.

2 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/24/2010

2002 Honda Accord started having transmission problems around 98k miles. Transmission would jerk and slip and then stay stuck in first gear. Eventually the tcs lights would come on and light up the prnd321 indicating an electrical problem. Would have to pull off the road in busy traffic and shut down the car and then restart it to clear the electrical issue. Eventually would get the car to shift out of first gear and then could continue on driving. After reading hundreds of the same complaints online, I contacted Honda customer service who then directed me to the dealer. The dealer charged me $115 to hook my car up to the computer to tell me I had a transmission problem and it would need to be replaced with an estimate of $4500. The dealer called the regional case manager at Honda to request a goodwill repair assistance and they were turned down. The dealer indicated that Honda was not obligated to do anything since the vehicle was out of warranty. I referred to the hundreds of exact same complaints and the safety issues involved with a car not being able to drive normally in traffic. I am now researching the cost to repair the transmission (outside of Honda) as opposed to the $4500 charge they wanted to replace the faulty transmission.

3 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/12/2007

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Accord. While driving approximately 35 mph and attempting to shift gears from second to another, the gears become temporarily stuck. The gear then sporadically switches to another gear and causes the vehicle to jerk forward violently. Additionally, while shifting the gear into drive, the engine revs and the vehicle drifts backwards. The contact stated that the traction control light illuminates when the failures occur. The dealer informed her that the recall repair for NHTSA campaign id number 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission) was previously performed on the vehicle by installing an oil jet kit. The dealer further stated that there was heat built up in the secondary shaft and counter shaft, but refused to repair the vehicle again. The manufacturer has not provided any assistance. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were 102,000.

4 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 1999 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/21/2006

1999 Honda Accord vehicle id #1hgcf8648xa061168 November 21, 2006 I was driving on a freeway, and I noticed smoke streaming from the top of the steering column. I took the exit off the freeway. The car was losing power, and jerked when I gave it gas. I pulled over and called the tow truck. The car was towed to marin Honda, a nearest dealer. November 24, 2006 they tested and found the electrical portion of the ignition switch had failed. They replaced it but at the same time the (trans gear selection) light began to flash. The service advisor said that it's a completely different problem. Marin Honda charged us $205 for the replacement of ignition switch. November 24, 2006 ever since the ignition switch was replaced, the trans gear selection begins to flash when the engine is on. And it makes a clunk sound and the whole car shakes when the gear is shifted to reverse or drive. I called the marin Honda service advisor and said the transmission problem must be related to the ignition switch replacement, but he was adamant that ignition switch has nothing to do with transmission. He said it is pure coincidence that both the ignition and transmission had problems at the same time. November 28,2006 December 1, 2006 the mechanic at petaluma Honda said that the range sensor is malfunctioning and there are a few wires dangling which may be why the cruise control is not working. They recommended that we take the car back to marin Honda. I drove the car to marin Honda. December 2, 2006 eddie parnell, service manager at marin Honda said that they've replaced the range sensor but still has the same problem. He thought it could be the transmission. He said that they continue checking. December 9, 2006 after eight days, jack, service advisor at marin Honda, called and said that the transmission has to be replaced. He said that we will have to pay half of the cost.

6 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 2005 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/06/2005

I own both a 2004 Accord ex v6 coupe and now a 2005 ex v6 sedan with automatic transmissions. Transmission gear shifter completely misses the "d" postition and moves into "d3" when shifting from either "park or neutral modes", as though that is the correct position to operate the vehicle when driving! this is not a normal condition to operate a vehicle. There is no significant "detent" position to secure the shifter into the "d" postion. It simple slips by the "d" mode right into "d3"! every other auto transmission car I've owned required extra effort to bypass the "drive" position to place the shifter into another(lower) gear setting. Operating either oy my vehicles in this manner may eventually cause significant damage to the transmission, engine or both. It may even cause some unforeseen transmission behavior affecting drivability. Honda customer service was contacted and their suggestion was to be "more careful" in selecting the gear shifter position. That does not sound like a very substantial solution to an obvious mechanical problem (short coming).
