2 Exterior Rearview Mirror problem of the 2020 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/09/2022

Driving slowly down a residential street during daylight hours and suddenly there was a loud noise and the passenger side side view mirror exploded. There wasn’t an accident of any kind - the car had not come inti contact with anything and there was no other damage except the actual glass part of the mirror was completely gone. There were no scratches or other damage to the rest of the mirror assembly or the car and no evidence that anyone had thrown anything at the car. The car was driven immediately to the Honda dealer and they insisted that there must have been an accident and refused to cover the damage. A brief internet search revealed others with the same make and model had experienced the exact same thing. I strongly believe this is a manufacturing defect and it is a safety issue because the sound of the explosion was startling and there was broken glass flying around and now the car side view mirror is missing.

7 Exterior Rearview Mirror problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/29/2013

The driver's side mirror is distorted causing the cars to appear further away than they actually are. There is a horizontal line that contributes to the distortion. I have been having a difficult time with this since I purchased the vehicle. It also makes me dizzy/have double vision as I look into the mirror after a few seconds. This distortion caused me to get into an accident where I was changing lanes thinking the vehicle in the lane left to me was further behind me. Both vehicles had extensive damage and the drivers injuries. On several other occasions I have vehicles beeped at me when I am changing lanes because they are closer than they appear in my mirror. I took the car back to Honda for the repairs and the employee was aware of the distortion the mirror causes. In fact, on the way to the dealership I almost had another crash, something I told the Honda representative. As I think back of when I test drove the vehicle before purchase, the salesperson took me on a road where there were no other vehicles passing by us so that I could realize the distortion. I contacted Honda's main customer service number and have been told that Honda designed their mirror that way so that the driver has a larger view of the vehicles in their blind spot. This design is flawed and causes a dangerous distortion making the vehicles appear further away and making the driver think that they have time to change lanes.

8 Exterior Rearview Mirror problem of the 2006 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/18/2006

Passenger outside mirror exploded while I was driving down the road. If the passenger window had been down it would have hit my daughter in her head. When the incident happened I stopped the car and picked up the mirror, there was no other cars or nothing around that could have hit the mirror, it made a very load noise but no other damage was done other than mirror came flying into in the side window and then hit the ground. All other parts on the mirror are in place and fine, only the center mirror parts fell off the car. I took it back to Honda to tell them the mirror fell out and the service manager left me standing there and didn't come back, he never got my name. I asked the desk boy where he had gone and he paged him and the said that he would call me, he didn't know who I was, my name or who the owner of the car was so how is he going to call me. Brand new, only had the car 2 weeks.
