36 Power Train problem of the 2016 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/25/2025

I was driving and the skid, brake, abs and steering light came on. I was with my kids so I immediately slowed down and contacted my mechanic. We initially thought it would be a sensor. After hooking it up, it was detected to be the abs brake module. After further research this is a “normal” issue. A new module is expensive $2500 with the dealer and is on back order for 3 months. We have shipped the module to CA (I’m in TN) to get it “repaired”. I have been without a car for 3weeks and still waiting. This is insane and should be recalled. I hope the “repair” fixes the issue.

39 Power Train problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/13/2025

The vehicle has a recall for drive axile still showing status as pending, we took the car to the dealer to check on that and also complained about noise during acceleration. On inspection the dealer at valley Honda, naperville found that the drive axile is the problem. But they said it has nothing to do with the recall, it is because someone else tried to repair it. I was told it is very unsafe to drive. Still we drove it back home, I inspected the axile I could notice so must rust on the axiles and in the shaft, that they can't claim ithe rust is because of the othet repairs performed!. There was also visible fluid leak coming out of the boot area of the axile, because of the rust. The dealership is. Just trying to avoid the axile repair and citing other repairs performed as an invalid reason. Please help soon.

40 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/27/2025

I bought this car and after only owning it for eight months, as I was driving down the freeway, every light on my dashboard lit up, and my car slowed down. I was able to pull to the side of the road, but I could no longer drive my car home and I was commuting. Since the first incident, I have repaired my car having the coil repaired spark plugs, and regular maintenance in the last eight months that I have owned the car and now my turbo charger needs to be replaced. I took it into two different mechanic shops. My car is only at 130k miles this should not be causing an issue with a Honda now I cannot find anyone to repair it without costing me $2000 plus.

41 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/27/2025

After the vehicle misfiring , kept changing spark plugs and coil , as well the vehicle shutting over while driving on the highway , having to get it towed and then finally able to get to dealership , Honda said the head gasket failed , so after the head gasket replacement and getting it fixed for $5k, it started to make a noise rattling , took it back to dealership and they said it was the turbo when I took it back to dealership , they said it was failing , it was not making a noise until after head gasket replacement . The dealer said the turbo messing up wasnt from head gasket replacement , but I’m very aware it’s possible and there was absolutely no noise before replacement of head gasket !.

42 Power Train problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/24/2025

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while attempting to complete a left turn, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to coast into a nearby parking lot, where the failure persisted. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with failures with the driveshaft and steering gearbox. The driveshaft was repaired at that time. The contact stated that while leaving the independent mechanic at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle suddenly veered to the left, prompting the contact to immediately return the vehicle to the independent mechanic. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the steering gearbox. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 160,000.

43 Power Train problem of the 2021 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/18/2025

A transmission problem occurred shortly after a cvt transmission service was performed at an authorized Honda dealership, classic Honda of midland in midland, texas. After the service, the vehicle began experiencing abnormal noise, vibration, and harsh driving conditions. The vehicle was later inspected at another authorized Honda dealership, ocean Honda of burlingame, California. During the inspection, technicians documented that the cvt transmission fluid had been overfilled and excess transmission fluid had to be drained. After further evaluation, internal transmission damage was identified and the dealership advised that the transmission likely needs replacement. Ocean Honda of burlingame provided an estimated cost of $10,101. 13 for transmission replacement. Attempts were made to resolve the issue directly with classic Honda of midland in texas, but the dealership refused to take responsibility or provide assistance. This condition may create a safety risk due to potential loss of power and unsafe drivability while operating the vehicle.

45 Power Train problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/11/2025

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated that one of the tires was punctured by a nail, and after the tire was replaced, the check engine warning light and other unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an auto zone, where it was diagnosed, and determined that there was a misfire in cylinder #2. The vehicle was then taken to a certified mechanic who replaced the cylinder, engine, ignition coil, and spark plug. After the vehicle was repaired, it was returned to auto zone to be diagnosed again. The contact was informed that there was a misfire in cylinder #2. The vehicle was returned to the mechanic, and it was confirmed that the spark plug in cylinder #2 was new. The contact continued driving the vehicle; however, a month later, several warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a misfire in cylinder #2. The dealer recommended replacing the fuel injectors and that an alignment of the radar was needed, and there was a failure with the transmission fluid, the cvt, and a software failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was previously included in a recall for the failure; however, the recall repair was already performed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

46 Power Train problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/11/2025

Coolant leak through the gasket into a cylinder so now I need a new head gasket. When I start my car, it starts to shake and don’t accelerate. I just got my turbo done in April because of the same issues.

47 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/11/2025

My son was driving home from work when car suddenly went into limp mode with check engine light and all other safety light came on the dash. Driving around 50mph and my son nearly collided with multiple cars as the became hard to steer and brakes unreliable. Luckily no one was hurt this time. Car has 83k miles. Was taken to the dealer and diagnostics run and provided with a $5000. Repair to replace the head gasket due to coolant leaking into cylinder #3 causing misfires. I have reached out to Honda of America with the issue.

48 Power Train problem of the 2025 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/04/2025

Subject: safety complaint – loss of drive power prior to recall resulting in crash (2025 Honda Accord hybrid) I am submitting a safety complaint regarding a 2025 Honda Accord sport hybrid (VIN: [xxx]) involved in a crash on [xxx], which we believe is related to a recall issued later in January 2026. At the time of the incident, the vehicle was being driven under normal conditions, below the speed limit, on an empty road. The driver suddenly experienced a loss of control, the vehicle became unresponsive, veered out of its lane, and did not respond to steering correction. The vehicle ultimately collided with an electric pole and was declared a total loss. At the time of the crash, no recall or warning had been issued. We reported the incident to Honda on October 23, 2025 (case #[xxx]), describing the loss of control and unresponsiveness. However, no mention was made of any potential defect or safety concern. In January 2026, we received a recall notice stating that if the icm cpu resets while the vehicle is in operation, it may cause loss of drive power and increase the risk of a crash. This description closely matches what occurred during our accident. We also informed the dealership, scott Honda (vineland, NJ), but our concerns were not investigated. Instead, the dealership attempted to sell us another vehicle without addressing the safety issue. We believe the defect existed prior to the recall and may have directly contributed to the crash. We are also concerned that the manufacturer did not warn us despite our earlier complaint describing similar symptoms. This incident resulted in the total loss of our vehicle and ongoing financial hardship, as we have been without a replacement vehicle for over six months. We respectfully request that NHTSA investigate the timing of the recall, the manufacturer’s awareness of the defect, and how pre-recall complaints like ours were handled. We are willing to provide all supporting documents. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5.

49 Power Train problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/31/2025

Car stalled/went into limp mode in the middle of turning onto a busy road almost hit by oncoming traffic. Check engine light came on, as well as all other warnings. Ran diagnostics and show fuel running lean and cyl 2 misfire. Checked all other possible issues related to codes and all signs point to bad fuel injectors.

50 Power Train problem of the 2021 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/27/2025

The head gaskets are known to fail on the 10 generation Accord. It failed on my 2021 Honda Accord ex-l. I left work and while I was driving the dashboard lit up with every possible light. This was quickly followed by the vehicle losing power on the highway. I ultimately got it repaired by a Honda certified mechanic. The mechanic took it to a Honda dealer to confirm it was the gasket, in which it was. There were no warning lamps message or other symptoms prior to the failure. At the time of power loss I was on an 8 lane highway at 70mph. Luckily no accidents occurred, but the failure definitely put my safety at risk along with others. The mechanic I took my vehicle to has all available information if needed upon request.

51 Power Train problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/25/2025

Upon commuting to work, the car failed to accelerate causing the car to almost suddenly stop while driving; at the same time of the failure warning lights and beeping occurred. No warnings prior to failure. By god’s grace, I was not yet on the expressway and avoided what would have been a horrible accident jeopardizing not only my life but the lives of anyone that would have been behind me. The gasket failed (cylinder #3) and is available for inspection upon request. It was a significant safety issue as the failure occurred without warning causing the car to stop no warning. Yes, the dealer has confirmed the failure and I was quoted a $5800 repair cost in spite of a owning a lifetime power train warranty. No, the vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance. I did place a call to american Honda and we were given a case #15822812 (but this case has since been closed without action. ) no warnings occurred before the failure. (beeping and messages occurred at the time of failure. ) had the failure occurred at a high rate of speed, on an expressway, loss of life could have occurred and no one would know what caused the accident since cars are usually towed away and declared “totaled. ” fortunately, I was on a road of 35mph but in just a few more minutes would have been at a speed of 65mph. There is a further safety concern that the dealer admits that there is a known problem with the oem component but plans to continue to replace with the same product. Note: this car has a superior care record and only 110,000 miles which means the failure is likely to occur again with the same parts. Internet searches are confirming this is a known product failure with no recall.

52 Power Train problem of the 2016 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/22/2025

Error code p0087.

53 Power Train problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/20/2025

I took my 2013 Accord to the dealership to inspect the driveshaft under the recall for the driveshaft . They determined that it did not need to be replaced. I believe the only reason it does not need replaced at this time is because of the very low mileage. Living in pennsylvania , there is a great deal of DE-icing / salt used here and it is only a matter of time before this becomes an extremely dangerous situation. Honda should be required to replace these driveshafts as they admit this is due to improper manufacturing and a protective coating that may degrade over time. I believe that I am being put in danger just because of the low mileage and how clean I keep this car. I asked the dealer and Honda headquarters about if this degrades in the future and did not get an answer. We should not have to be put in danger because Honda apparently isn't required to replace these.

54 Power Train problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/18/2025

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that after parking and exiting the vehicle to open a gate, the vehicle unexpectedly began to move. While attempting to open the driver's side door, the owner fell, and her left foot became trapped under the vehicle. The rear tire rolled over her foot, but she managed to free herself by wiggling her foot out of her sock and shoe. The owner then drove herself to the hospital, where she received medical treatment for knee and heel injuries. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 25v422000 (power train). The contact did not contact the local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was also not informed of the incident. The failure occurred at approximately 90,126 miles.

55 Power Train problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/15/2025

The head gasket needs replaced because of a faulty design. . . . This is an expensive fix and one I think Honda knows about, but because the fix if almost all labor, they don't care because it is making them a ton of money on repairs. The engine block cooling is designed to cause a head gasket failure with can ruin the engine and even if you catch it, is very expensive to fix. And Honda doesn't even offer an adequate fix and this will happen again. I have talked to Honda techs who have confirmed that belief.

56 Power Train problem of the 2023 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/14/2025

Component/system that failed or malfunctioned: power train: automatic transmission internal (cvt). The vehicle stops responding to acceleration, remains static while the engine continues at high revolutions, without generating forward movement. The component is available for inspection upon request. How safety was put at risk: the incident occurred while driving on the highway. By losing acceleration power and not being able to maintain the required speed According to traffic laws, I was at risk of being struck by other vehicles traveling at normal highway speed. This situation posed an immediate danger to both myself and other drivers. Problem reproduction/confirmation: the dealership inspected the vehicle and informed me that, at this time, there is no safety bulletin related to my unit. Inspection by third parties: I have scheduled an appointment with the dealership for September 5, 2025, where a more detailed evaluation of the problem is expected to be performed. Warning signs or prior symptoms: when the failure occurs, several warning lights illuminate on the dashboard and then turn off. Timeline / first occurrence: the failure occurred on August 14, 2025, at 9,215 miles. Related campaign reference: there is an existing NHTSA recall campaign for the same vehicle model: NHTSA campaign 23v588000.

57 Power Train problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/13/2025

My car is always having some electrical issue but when I type in my VIN number, no recalls are listed under my VIN number and then for the last couple of days I've been experiencing acceleration problems when I look up a 2018 Honda Accord it is saying that fuel pumps have been an issue, but my VIN number pulls up no information as far as me falling under that recall what are the proper steps to get my car looked at to see if my VIN number even though it's not populating, any recall falls under the recall.

58 Power Train problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/08/2025

2004 Honda Accord v6 178000k miles car was just driving fine through all gears then out of nowhere as I was driving on the freeway going approximately 65 mph the car violently jerked because the transmission locked up and my car broke like if I pulled the emergency brake almost causing me to crash into another vehicle. The (rpm) then went up to redline. I pulled over restarted the car and as I tried to drive off, the cars (rpm) was way too high for example if I drove 40mph the (rpm) was at 4,000 revolutions witch can cause damage to the engine, if I went 60 mph and the (rpm) was at redline. So I had a friend tow the vehicle. Once home I drove around the neighborhood and the car won't switch gears it stays at 1st gear ( hence the high rpm) and it violently jerks the whole car very badly I'm assuming when it's supposed to switch gears. I got the following codes ( p0741, p0747) I checked all the solenoids with a professional scanner I was able to activate all the solenoids and all passed the test. Every single one clicked and showed they where in good condition. The next day I go drive it and it drives normal through all gears for an hour and then again it starts jerking violently / braking. I then replaced the solenoids and still the same problem. I did some research online and it seems a lot of people have trouble with these transmissions for this year I'm surprised it isn't recalled as it is very dangerous.

59 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/06/2025

While driving ~40 mph call all of a sudden lost power in middle of busy street, was not able to steer or drive (pedals weren't working to provide power). I pulled off to side and saw check engine light blinking and warning message pop up about brake system not working. I turned the car off then turned it back on and worked normally and was able to drive home.

60 Power Train problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/04/2025

As I was driving myself and child on the interstate 65 mph the vehicle all of a sudden dropped speed and would not accelerate. I drifted the car off the interstate off ramp and pulled into a store parking lot. Luckily, we did not cause an accident or hit anything or anyone. All the lights on car's dashboard blinking some examples are eps, vsa, malfunction lamp, breaking system, check engine light, etc. My car did not show that it was running hot, was not smoking, however would not accelerate. The car had a slight rattle, running bad, shaking slightly; all in all, not working appropriately. No earlier indication that something was wrong just came all of a sudden, no warning at all. Car was brought to billy navarre in lake charles, la, where they concluded that head gasket was blown. I had to come out of pocket to fix the head gasket and all of the other problems that it caused. Car milage 84,097, bought brand new in 2018. This is a major safety issue for the public! multiple people have this same problem. I have documentation on all the work the dealership completed. And I have filed a report to Honda.

61 Power Train problem of the 2017 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/02/2025

Several times when driving at speeds of 50-60mph with my foot steady on the accelerator, the car will suddenly start to slow down so that I am going only, say, 40 mph. Either at the same time or shortly after this occurs, multiple warning lights/messages appear on the dash: collision mitigation system, brake system, acc system all appear and messages say they are not working, which is true, although the brakes seemed to still work fine. When this occurred the first time, I was able to pull off the highway and stop, unsure of what to do. I continued to try and drive because I was in the middle of a long trip. The slow downs kept happening intermittently, but I discovered that if I pumped the accelerator a couple of times, the speed would be restored. However, this was still a dangerous situation because I never knew when it would occur, so I stayed in the right lane and had to avoid any situations requiring confident acceleration, such as crossing a busy street. In total, this has occurred while I’m driving approximately 10-15 times, but the warning lights may or may not go away after a while, or after stopping and re-starting the car. I took car to dar cars Honda fairfax (virginia) dealer who updated software and said it should be fixed. Next day as I was driving about 50 mph, the slowdown occurred again and the warning lights came on. I drove back to the dealer, during which time the slowdown occurred one more time with me pumping accelerator to get power back, and left it with them. They could not reproduce the symptoms. I had them keep and drive it another day to see if they could make the slowdown occur, but it did not, so I picked up the car. However, I feel that this is a dangerous situation and I can no longer drive this car confidently on long trips or in situations where I need acceleration that I can rely on.

62 Power Train problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/31/2025

I currently own a 2018 Honda Accord 1. 5l 4 cylinder with only 62,800 miles at the start of the issue. Around the end of July 2025 the car started to jerk. It started with a slight jerk and escalated daily, over about a week, until the car started going into limp mode. The car was taken to a repair shop near my house. This shop said they were receiving an engine misfire code, replaced all spark plugs, and car driving good again. Around 8/15/2025, I started having the same issues. On 8/19/25 the car went into limp mode again in a busy highway. Took it to a Honda/Acura repair shop. They again found the same misfire codes, replaced 1 spark plug, and the car was driving okay. This Honda/Acura shop found low coolant in the engine and believed I had a leaking head gasket as they have been seeing a high number of Honda 1. 5l engines, similar years, with this issue. The shop suggested I contact Honda as it is a known issue. On 8/19, the Honda dealer service department told me they are seeing a lot of that issue but Honda has no current plan to extend warranties or issue a recall, despite the widespread, known issue. The dealership’s service department instructed me to call Honda corporate to discuss the issue and potential coverage. Corporate did open a case for a potential good faith repair. I was told that I would have to take it to a Honda dealership for official diagnostics, pay that fee out of pocket, then submit documents and info for coverage review. The car was driving okay for about 1 week and on 8/27/25, began having the same problems. I was able to get an appointment on 9/2/25 at the dealership. On 9/2/25, the dealership confirmed the head gasket is bad and the car requires head gasket, head bolt, belts, fuel injector, and coolant replacement, and oil change. The dealership again acknowledged this is a known issue with the vehicle. These vehicles are stopping on busy highways (with speed limit of 50mph) and interstates or going into limp mode, not going over 20mph.

63 Power Train problem of the 2016 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/25/2025

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the local dealer for routine maintenance, and the transmission fluid was replaced. Shortly after retrieving the vehicle, dtc: 03 flashed on the transmission shifter display. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who indicated that dtc: p0741 was retrieved, indicating that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle performed normally, but the dealer insisted that the transmission needed to be replaced to fix the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 104,000.

64 Power Train problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/24/2025

I have a 2018 Honda Accord 1. 5t I have always done oil changes and maintenance Accordingly. My car went into limp mode over the summer. I brought it to my dealership who said the head gasket was bad and it was going to cost over 5,000$ to fix. This is a known problem on these cars as I have gathered information all over the internet. Honda refuses to do the right thing and have a recall. I do not have the money to replace the head gasket at the hefty dealership level. I have been waiting over 3 months in an attempt of a diy replacement. The company I have been ordering with has had many issues and I am still without a vehicle. The vehicle only has 138,000 miles.

65 Power Train problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/23/2025

After having the fuel pump recall completed on my Honda Accord, I began experiencing serious engine problems that I had not had before the recall repair. Shortly afterward, my vehicle developed a blown head gasket, coolant leaking into the engine, and turbo issues. These failures occurred outside of my extended warranty (which has also since expired), but they started only after the recall work was performed. I contacted my dealership and Honda corporate for assistance through a goodwill request, but they denied coverage, stating I am outside of warranty and they cannot determine fault. However, I have since learned that other Honda owners have reported experiencing the same or very similar engine issues after this recall repair. Currently, the vehicle is undriveable without risking complete engine failure. The cost of repair is extremely high, leaving me at a financial loss for a problem I believe is directly related to the manufacturer’s recall repair.

66 Power Train problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/22/2025

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact received an NHTSA recall email alert for NHTSA campaign number: 25v422000 (power train). After contacting the dealer, who confirmed the VIN inclusion in the recall, an appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair; however, upon inspection, the dealer determined that the driveshaft did not require replacement. The contact disagreed with the assessment, stating that the driveshaft was visibly corroded. The contact had taken pictures both before and after the appointment. Despite waiting at the dealer for over two hours, no work was performed on the vehicle. The contact notified the manufacturer about the decision of the dealer not to replace the driveshaft. The manufacturer opened a case and stated that a regional technician would be contacted. The contact sent photos to the manufacturer's case associate, who then communicated with both the dealer and the regional technician and confirmed the dealer's initial assessment that the driveshaft did not need to be replaced. The failure mileage was 53,456.

67 Power Train problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/08/2025

I am writing regarding my recently purchased used 2018 Honda Accord. The car has low mileage and initially ran well, but it has developed a recurring cylinder misfire problem. When this happens, the car slows down and cannot exceed 20 mph. This issue has occurred several times—once while my daughter was driving on the highway, creating a dangerous situation as she tried to pull over safely. I took the car to both a Honda dealership and an independent mechanic. The dealership diagnosed a head gasket issue and quoted over $6,000 for repairs. However, the independent shop could not identify the issue—no error codes appeared during their diagnostic scan. After I shared the dealer’s diagnosis, the independent mechanic mentioned that this may be a known design flaw in certain Honda Accords from this model range. From what I’ve learned, the problem involves the engine’s cooling system design. The coolant travels inside the engine around the outside of the cylinders, and Honda used a small channel between cylinders to allow coolant flow. This channel appears to be the failure point, leading to head gasket problems in multiple vehicles. I believe this may be a systemic issue affecting many Honda Accords with this design, and I urge someone from this office to investigate and make Honda take responsibility for these repairs. I am in a position where I am able to transition away from this vehicle, so this will not help me. So I hope you are able to help other, because the repair bill could cripple people and hinder them for using a vehicle that they rely on to provide for themselves and their family.
