A year after having the vehicle I had to get a new transmission on 5/2017. After the the first repair I started to have issue with my dash board lights and gear indicator would scrambled on and off. Three months later I had my vehicle wouldn't start and I was told I needed a new battery. 8/19/2018 the vehicle broke down again. Its currently at the shop and they are saying its the transmission. Each time the vehicle broke down I was traveling on the interstate when the vehicle started to shift gears.

4 Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 2018 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/06/2018

I was driving straight down a residential street, accelerating and the braking system automatically stopped the vehicle and the transmission automatically went into neutral. The car motor was still running but the car was inoperable. The gearshift indicated the car to be in drive but would not accelerate. I moved through the automatic gear shift selections but nothing happened. The dash brake failure contact dealer light appeared, then transmission failure contact dealer warning light appeared. I called the dealership and was instructed to turn the car off and restart, which I did. The car restarted, there were no warning lights and I was able to drive the one block to home. The dealer told me to drive it to the dealership which I did not do as I did not feel it was safe. It was fortunate I was not on a freeway or in traffic as I most likely would have been rear ended because it came to a complete stop unexpectedly; for no apparent reason and no notice like brake stop lights to warn other drivers the car was stopping. I had the car towed to the dealership. I was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced.

5 Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/19/2013

While highway driving (80mph), total, unexpected transmission failure. Speedometer dropped to zero, multiple indicator lights on dash including blinking indicator near the "d" gear indicator and engine light. I was nearly hit as the car decelerated and I quickly tried to merge to the right so I could exit the freeway. After pulling into gas station, I opened the hood which was now smoking with burning oil. The entire undercarriage was covered in oil and it was now leaking from an unknown source. This is the third transmission failure I have experienced in the same 2003 Honda Accord. I have nearly been hit twice due to transmission failures in this vehicle. Does someone have to be killed before this well known transmission failure is address? recalled? consumer refunded for repairs to a faulty vehicle?.

7 Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/10/2012

I bought my Honda from the dealership 06/23/12, 1 owner completely serviced through the dealership then traded in at same dealership. When bought it had 101,793 miles, timing belt was done at 90k and power steering pump. Not even month later I had to replace throttle body. I've always felt something wrong with the transmission after bought car. On 11/10/2012 out of no where when I was getting off the freeway my car started to down shift really hard, was jerking while driving and then was stuck in first gear, luckily I was less than a mile from my house so I drove home then parked it and no indicator lights on. The next morning (today) called a friend who works on Hondas and he looked at it and said the transmission fluid was very dirty and practically gone. Drove around the block twice and transmission was working fine. Then later drove about 8 miles and started hard down shifting and was stuck in first gear. Then parked and tried to put my car in reverse and it not move acted like was in neutral. Put it in park, turned it off then started it again and put it into reverse, reverse now worked. After that I had my friend look under the hood at the transmission fluid and it was practically empty again. So I went to the store got more transmission fluid and put some in and tried to drive back home. Everything seemed fine for about another 8 miles then it started to hard down shift all over again. After another 3 miles the car completely freaked out check engine light finally came on along with the abs, tsc, and the light showing I was in drive started flashing. So I pulled over and put the car in park and everything was still doing the same thing, including the light indicating I was in drive even thought I was in park and the park gear light was on. So I turned off my car, sat for a min then restarted. Driving slow needed to stop and brakes started to go out.

10 Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/02/2011

Second owner of the 2003 Honda Accord v6, bought it on 2009 first found out this issue after taking my brother to jfk airport and on my way back home, some weirdo sounds clunking while car stopped on traffic and accelerate onward. (lucky didn't get self and my wife killed/crashed) taken the car to auto repair and they told me it's transmission failure, dashboard is blinking as well. Transmission slips out of gear shifts roughly won't go into gear drive indicator light flashing on dash high pitched whining noise from transmission clunking into gear shifts violently at low speed after highway driving. Not shifting properly.

11 Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

12 Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/07/2010

While driving on the freeway all of a sudden my engine light came on , and the gear indicator located on the dash, the green light that showed that the car was in drive started blinking. Then come to find out this car is know for transmission failure, regardless of the maintenance the care received from the dealer.

13 Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/30/2008

Transmission not engaging nor shifting into gear properly . Whenever I start the engine after sitting overnight, the transmission doesn't pick up speed normally. Now whenever I start the car and drive off, the rpms go up fairly quickly, but the car accelerates slowly and lurches forward with a thud. And the check engine light is on and the d4 gear indicator light is blinking green. I only had 119,500 miles when this level of symptom manifested itself. . . Now I'm at 120,000. Yesterday (08/25/2008) I called american Honda 1-800-999-1009 to complain of the issues I've been experiencing. American Honda said that I had to bring my car into a dealership and have them diagnose it. (fyi - I'd already spent over $660 at another reputable shop to have the problem repaired without resolution. . . But, they did say that given all the work they'd done, it could only be the transmission). Ironically, during the call the rep could hear that the car was revving at high rpms but wouldn't shift into d4. Fearful of a fire or blown transmission, I had to pull over, turn off the engine, and restart after 5 minutes. The dealership informed me that it would still be a mandatory $89 charge to diagnose something both they and I already know. The voluntary extension of the warranty from 100k to 109k is ridiculous. I suspect that there is a very large contingent of Honda owners who have, already had, or will soon have the same problem. Like many others here that I've read, we got a Honda based on their reputation of their transmissions lasting over 200k+ miles. Up until this, I'd been mostly happy with the way it drove (despite the lifelong and moderately annoying tendency for the car to "jump" into gear from dead stops despite gradual application of the gas pedal). I certainly hope that posting here helps result in a class action lawsuit because I really feel like I'm getting taken advantage of. It's me (hopefully us) against the big corporation.

14 Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/09/2008

Approximately March-2008, at about 80,000 miles, my 2002 Honda Accord 4door 4cylinder transmission began slamming into first gear and slightly slipping in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears. I changed the transmission fluid, using Honda atf-z1 fluid, four times over the period of three months. The fluid was clear and red each time. The problem slowly progressed. In early June-2008, my wife, myself, and our two children (age 5 and 2) were driving home from work and the transmission was severely slipping. The danger was that I had to drive the vehicle 20 - 25 mph in a 45mph zone major road (where cars realistically travel 10 -15 mph faster than the speed limit) and cars were swerving around us. My hazards were on, but did not seem to make a difference. . Read more...

Most recent the transmission failed; although the contact was able to drive at an extremely low speed with the illumination of the entire warning lights and the gear selector indicator blinking on the instrument panel. The vehicle was driven with caution to the dealer where they advised the transmission be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.
