36 Transmission Solenoid problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/02/2004

I have a 2000 Honda Accord lx sedan with a little over 75,000 miles on it. Saturday may 4th of this year on my way from mesquite to arlington my car just failed to move. Engine was running but the car wouldn't pick a gear to move on, luckily a gentleman behind me helped push the car off to the shoulder. I was stranded on the side of interstate 35 and had to request aaa come tow my car to the dealership lute riley in richardson. The dealership was closed sat by the time I got there so Monday morning when I went in I had researched and discovered this was a known defect in the sixth generation Accords. But I was informed at midday by my service advisor shawn that I needed to pay to have my solenoids replaced since thats what the technician reports as the problem so me being a college student and heavily reliant on my transportation especially during finals week paid for it. Sure enough couple of days later same issue where the car dies again in my school parking lot and I had it towed once again by aaa over to lute riley. This time when I went in on Thursday may 6th they sang a different tune that my transmission had failed and that it was covered under an extended warranty by Honda so they will replace it for free but will need to keep it for a week while they order one. Now my issue is returning the $350 plus that I spent on repairing solenoids that weren't in need of being replaced. I will be reporting this to Honda's corporate hq like so many other Honda owners have already done. Please do what you can to help save other people this headache and possible endangerment of life when a vehicle fails on our highways! additionally I request that you include Honda's recall\extension of warranty on all 2000-2001 Accords, oddesseys, and preludes in your "safety recall" search engine (this is open information on Honda's homepage but it would be nice to have it available in as many places possible).

37 Transmission Solenoid problem of the 1998 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/02/2003

I have a 1998 Accord ex, only 75000 miles. At first I heard noices under the vehicle at low speed. Later I notice my transmission fluid leaks and then the noice got louder. The gear seems to slip and not shifting properly when accellerating and decelerating, this occurred more especially at cold start. I then brought the car to my family mechanic and was told that the my transmission need to be rebuilt, that I have a broken bearing which caused the fluid to leak and making all the noices. Later he told me that one of the solenoid shift valve was bad in which caused the transmission to shift out of the ordinary and would not shift up and down at low gear per engine rotational speed (rpm). He told me that if I had driven this vehicle longer it would cost me a fortune to replaced the transmission. If this is the problem with Honda, why it's not resolving this issue with a recall. I am so skeptical of buying another Honda vehicle. My last 1993 Toyota 4runner did not have any problem at 189,000 miles. If yall out there know any info, please let me know. Thanks.

38 Transmission Solenoid problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/28/2002

Transmission, since day one, has always made a loud metal-to-metal clunking/popping noise at low speeds. Dealer advised there was no problem, was normal. Then at around 28k miles, it started shuddering and slipping on downshifts between 35-45mph. I then took it to right Honda in scottsdale, and they then flushed the linear solenoid, and when I got it back, it was still was doing it. They then replaced the entire transmission, and it came back with a thumping noise when in park or n. They then replaced it a second time. It is shifting better, but the car has not as much pickup and is still making the metal to metal noise, after over $6,000 in warranty repairs! it also lurches through gears sometimes, and is not as smooth as it was when I bought it. The service manager told me that this is a common problem, and that they have had to replace quite a few transmissions. I first spoke with angie williams at Honda corporate, and she would not help nor let me speak to her supervisor, rick thomas. I finally got through to rick thomas, and they said they would not buy the car back, nor was I going to get any help from him. I then asked to speak to his supervisor, and he would not let me speak with ron garner. The receptionist then lied to me and said that rick garner doesnt have voicemail, I caught her in the lie. Under magnuson-moss warranty act, they have had sufficient times to try and repair this vehicle! I have found that I am not alone in dealing with this problem, as almost everyone with a v6 automatic Accord seems to notice this problem with the transmission! the dealership I bought the vehicle from suggested I file a report with the bbb, since there was nothing he could do. That is ridiculous! I did not pay to lease a $28,000 car, and be given a cheap rental to drive around in for a month. How am I going to ever sell this car with a repair record like this? I really hope that you may be able to help. Nlm.

39 Transmission Solenoid problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/01/2002

I purchased this vehicle new in November 2001. I noticed that the transmission would not shift correctly from 1st to 2nd and read some complaints from other owners with the same problem. I took the vehicle to the local Honda dealer for inspection and was told there was nothing to worry about. The problem has persisted since and has gotten worse as it gets older. Please advise of any kind of recourse I may have should a transmission replacement be necessary. I did have one solenoid on the transmission replaced a year or so ago as well as a motor mount.
