2 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 05/21/2013

I have a 2003 Honda Accord ex-v6 that I purchased in 2006 with 13,000 miles. It now has ~70,000 miles. I have had all the Honda recommended maintenance performed. Today, while traveling about 50 mph, the transmission suddenly downshifted violently almost causing an accident. I pulled off the road and tried driving in d1, d2 and d3. The transmission seems to be stuck in first gear. I finished the drive home (about 1 mile) and found out there was no reverse gear. This seems to be a recurring and potentially dangerous problem from Honda. I can not believe this problem has not been recalled.

3 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/13/2012

Returning from richmond car downshifted by it self into 2nd gear at a speed of about 65 mph causing the car to dive violently as if applying the brakes hard. It did this about 5 or 6 times then locked in 2nd gear . I moved to the right lane and drove the car at a speed of 45 mph stuck in 2nd gear to my local Honda dealer. Thank goodness there was not a lot traffic on the road when this happened or I might have been hit from behind.

4 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/16/2011

We noticed hesitation in shifting from second to third gear. It seemed as if it would slip into neutral. After approximately 5-10 seconds it would shift into third. The transmission was checked and flushed in early 2011. This car has been maintained According to industry standards. After discussing the problem with various mechanics, it was determined that third gear was going out. Driving to repair location the transmission failed. The car went from 65 mph on the highway to stuck in second gear after the engine warmed up. This car was part of the recall in the summer of 2004 and the repair was made. However, after researching the Honda 2003, it appears as if this is a continual problem and Honda is aware of the faulty transmission yet does not assist in the cost of repair.

8 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/05/2010

I am an owner of three Honda vehicles due to their reliability. I bought the 2002 Honda Accord ex v6 right after christmas (Dec 26th, 2009). I bought it for my two sons to use (ages 17 and 18). A little over a month of owning the vehicle, my younger son reported to me that while he was driving the vehicle, several of the lights on the dashboard went off including the engine check light, the tcs light as well as the d4 light. He said that the car started acting weird and that the engine felt like it was stuck in the same gear. This was while he was on the highway and the engine started racing. I took the vehicle to several shops including aamco and they all indicated that this was a hard code and that the transmission needs to be replaced. Cost from aamco was between $2,500 and $3,000 depending on what they find when they take the transmission apart. The vehicle had roughly 92,000 miles when I purchased it and barely had 1,000 miles when the issue popped up. The car remains somewhat drivable but the engine seems like it is going to explode because the gears seem to be stuck and the car races especially when on the highway. Again, this vehicle was purchased for my two sons due to the supposed reliability of the Honda vehicle. Researching the issue on line, I've come across several sites exposing this same problem with these Honda Accords. I've called Honda and their only response was that they do not handle recalls, NHTSA does and until they determine this is an issue, Honda cannot do anything about it. I think that it is about time that NHTSA does the right thing by these Honda owners who are experiencing the same issues that I am having with my transmission!.

9 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/14/2010

Driving Honda Accord on sh 121, pressed the accelerator and engine started revving but car wouldn't go. Tried shifting into other drives and back into drive thinking that maybe it was stuck in between gears (even though it's an automatic) and the car would go for a bit then do the same thing. I eventually had to pull off the road with my hazard lights on hoping I wouldn't get rear ended. Called and had my car towed to the dealer. First the keys were lost somewhere between the tow truck and the dealership, then the dealer first couldn't replicate what had happened and after we told them to let the car warm up some more, they did replicate it. So we went from "there's nothing wrong with your car" to " you need the whole transmission replaced". This for a Honda that doesn't have 100k on it yet. Checked websites and seems this isn't an uncommon thing with this car and still waiting to hear what, if anything Honda will do to correct their problem. The car hasn't had any symptoms and has always been serviced at the dealer and had its scheduled maintenance performed. I bought a Honda so I wouldn't have these problems. I feel ripped off.

10 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

While pulling out of the parking garage, the transmission seemed to slip gears and then get stuck in 1st gear. The check engine light came on, the d4 started flashing and the tcs light came on. I had to pull over and turn off the car. When I turned the car back on, only the check engine light remained on and everything else seemed fine. A mechanic told me that it was just a shifting malfunction and he reset the computer. However, a couple of weeks later it happened while I was driving on the street and I had to quickly get over to the side of the road before any cars rear-ended me as the car was suddenly going very slow. I have had the transmission fluid flushed and this didn't help at all. I have had all other required maintenance and still the transmission is going out at slightly over 100,000 miles.

11 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

12 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/21/2008

I was driving on a local street, when all of a sudden, from being at full stop in red light, I hit the gas pedal, and the car will not budge. The engine was revving but there was no power--it was like being stuck in neutral. Tried restarting the car several times, and was able to get to a safe location on a side street. Contacted Honda, and I was notified that the transmission had to be replaced. Cost was around $3000. Honda offered to pay only 25%, so I was still stuck with a $2300 bill. I think this is a known issue for Honda and they should have covered more than 25% if it is indeed some kind of transmission design flaw. The transmission shouldn't have total failure when I've stuck to the schedule of servicing the transmission at 60k, 90k, and 120k as prescribed in the owner's manual.
