Parking at nursery shop, car went out of control speeding and running over the concrete stoper and nursery fence. It was a sudden acceleration and vehicle could not be stopped. The car was moving in slow motion to park and had a sudden acceleration that caused the accident. Very scary. Tried to stop pressing the brakes but the car would not respond. No injuries but it could happen to anyone anywhere.

Automatic braking system brought the car to full stop as I was accelerating when a light changed from red to green. There was no risk of hitting anything in front of the car. Speed was about 10-15 mph when the car put on the brakes. I was almost rear-ended by the car behind me. The car would not give control to the accelerator for several seconds. My foot was off the brake. In addition, the automatic braking system often gives false positives such as when driving at normal speed (30-50 mph) on a 2-lane road (one lane each direction, yellow solid lines separating the traffic) and the road curves and an on-coming vehicle is correctly and safely in their own lane.
Incident #1: 04/29/2019, 562 miles on odometer. vehicle was backed up into the parking spot and stopped the vehicle showed yellow "brake system" dash light and 2 warning messages one was generic brake system problem second was elaborating that brake fluid may be low and instructing to check if brakes operate normally I checked the brake pedal and it had noticeable less resistance after a minute the condition cleaned itself, the error messages disappeared, the brake pedal feel returned to normal I did not have enough time to document the problem I had checked the brake fluid level and it was normal, then immediately brought vehicle to the dealer technician found no stored error codes, performed system reset Honda recommendation was to keep driving the vehicle incident #2: 07/17/2019, 3268 miles on odometer. after a commute parking car, the vehicle showed yellow "brake system" dash light and 2 warnings these were exactly the same as in incident #1 this time, I made pictures, these can be provided if needed and are attached here: https://community. Cartalk. Com/t/2019-Honda-accord-hybrid-intermittent-brake-system-warning-light-and-on-dash-warnings/150465 brake pedal it was soft/spongy same as with incident #1, after a minute the condition cleaned itself, the error messages disappeared, brake feel returned to normal after error message disappeared I brought the vehicle to the dealer, shared photos they found nothing and raised it to Honda corporate, who had no solution either Honda recommended driving the vehicle until new incident occurs at this point, I asked for vehicle to be replaced under virginia lemon law, which qualifies serious safety defect after the first occurrence, but was denied by Honda. Ncds arbiter sided with Honda. Since Honda introduce no repairs, the problem is still hidden in the car, it is a ticking bomb.

Honda Accord Hybrid 2018 with 7439 miles. I was driving on the highway back home from work . Suddenly car starts to flush messages that all car systems fails and it needs to be towed to dealership immediately. Car stopped to response to controls including acceleration and starts to slows down from 70 mph to 25 mph. At that time I realized that the only option would be to pull over on the shoulder. I did it to be able to stay away from traffic and call emergency service. After approximately 75 minutes I was towed away to nearby dealership (manchester Honda, CT). As of this morning I don't have any information from them. I was totally shocked on car behavior and think this is not acceptable for car with 7439 miles and only 7 month old.
I'm barely reaching close to 6000 miles and I'm already hearing clunk sounds on my suspensions when I slowly go into a dip or drive across a bump, now sometimes the engine would have this rattling sound when I accelerate between 2000-3000 rpms and sometimes when I remove the parking brake and go reverse the braking system would randomly brake on me violently and put it on park. I bought the vehicle at 84 miles.
On Friday, April 27, 2018, while driving on a major highway and parkway on three occasions I had a system failure while driving and lost braking ability. I applied the brake pedal & the car didn't slow down. I used the handheld parking brake to stop. When the car was turned off & restarted systems all worked for a few minutes & then failed again. I drove off the highway to safety & parked. On Saturday, April 28, 2018, I drove the car to Honda service center. Service advisor fenix did not believe me but they ended up giving me a loaner car. On Monday, April 30, 2018, I received a call from service advisor fenix asking if the service manager could drive my car home because they cannot find any issues with my car or my brakes. I said yes. Service manager experienced the same system failure that I experienced while he was driving home. On may 12, 2018 I picked up my car from Honda and was told issue was fixed. On may 17, 2018, at about 6:22 am, I was driving on the cross island parkway in heavy rain when I once again experienced a total system failure resulting in my car not having the ability to stop by applying the brakes. I stopped again by utilizing the parking brake. Honda towing towed the car to the Honda dealership where an employee then drove the car to the Honda service center and then returned to the dealership in a different car to pick me up and transport me to the service center. I have no confidence in this car and cannot ever see myself driving it or allowing my family to ride in it regardless of who is driving it as it is not safe!!.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord Hybrid. The contact stated that on three separate occasions, the vehicle would independently accelerate soon after start of the vehicle with his foot on the brake pedal. The contact also stated that the braking system failure warning light would be displayed on the instrument panel during the failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer twice for the same failure and both times he was informed that the failure was related to a defective battery and the battery was replaced. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and a case was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

I started to notice this issue months after purchasing it used from a private party. During the winter time when it was particularly cold outside, I noticed that my power brakes would start working when I first start up the car. Eventually, I would discover that the brake booster check valve was sticking and preventing the power brakes from being active when starting a vehicle in the cold weather. It was very confusing at first because there would be stored power brakes in the vacuum booster from the day before that would be used up when backing out of my parking spot. However, as I was moving forward and subsequently wanting to apply the brakes, I found that the power brakes were not working. The brake pedal became hard and would not go down and I had to jam on the brake pedal as hard as I could to get it to slow down. However, once the car engine had been on for a while, I would hear a click noise (probably the check valve unsticking) and then power brakes were restored for the rest of the commute. I eventually had the brake booster vacuum hose replaced (which also contained the check valve) and no longer had this issue. The mechanic who replaced the hose confirmed that the check valve was faulty because the old hose would not allow air through when they tried to blow through it from either direction.

After starting my car in a small parking lot, I shifted into reverse and I pressed gently on the accelerator the car lurched backward and kept accelerating even though I applied the brakes. After it had smashed into the parking lot curb, shrubs and cars parked 20 to 30 feet behind me, it finally stopped. The air bags deployed when and my car contacted the first fixed object. Fortunately, the other cars were empty so I was the only one injured. My car and two others sustained substantial damage. Two other cars were damaged slightly.

While driving my Honda accord 2015 on interstate 75 in the left lane, the dashboard displayed a warning that there was a power system failure, the engine light came on. The vehicle immediately lost all power. The dashboard display was still lit and the radio continued to play. There was no resistance with the gas pedal and the car could only coast. I checked traffic and changed lanes to the far right emergency pull off. I turned off the car and then restarted it and the power system failure warning was gone but then a brake system warning came on. The car did travel foward with gas pedal and the brake seemed to work so I stayed in emergency lane and proceeded to closet exit off i75. I went to auto zone but they could not assist me. When the car was restarted all the warnings were clear. I took it the a Honda dealer and ask for a diagnostic. Honda service person said that if I was driving with both feet (one on gas and one on brake) that loss of power. I was not driving with both feet, so I asked him to run a diagnostics so I felt safe enough to drive home. The diagnostics revealed that the computer needed an update that was performed by service. I read the paperwork on the diagnositcs and there was a statement that described my incident completely with sudden loss of power. My car is not on a recall list. Honda seemed to know exactly what to fix, but I was never notified that my car needed an update resulting in power system failure. Why was this information not communicated to the owners of these cars? for a brand new car to be able to display all kinds of information (ie, oil life, range of miles, time for service) why can not the car display that its computer needs an update and to take in for service? there was no injury thankfully, but easily this could have happen, I was just lucky that I was able to coast over to the emergency lane and was not going uphill.
Have noted on a few occasions that the brake booster is not activated when a car has been sitting overnight or for extended duration of time. What typically happens is that I start the vehicle and shift it into gear and proceed. However, if I have to brake within 1-2 minutes of starting the car, the brake booster appears to not be working and I am left using manual brakes essentially since the vacuum boost is not working. Once the car has been running for a few minutes, the brake booster starts working normally. Because of this intermittent behavior, I have almost crashed into things while backing up or driving forward since the power brakes were essentially not working in those scenarios. I have checked the brake booster system and everything appears to be normal. Brake pedal does not sink during normal operation, nor does there appear to be a leak in the brake system when I prime/pump the brake while the car is turned off. After investigating the issue, I have found a temporary solution is to start the car and pump the brakes first before going. The brakes will lose the vacuum boost in the initial 2-3 pumps and then after a few more pumps will get the normal vacuum assist back. I have gone to my local Honda dealership and asked them if there are any technical service bulletins associated with the issue and they have told me that there are none. I know that because of the Honda integrated motor assist in their hybrid vehicles, there is an extra vacuum switch module that controls the brake booster so that it can turn the engine back on during idle-stop to restore brake boosting. I suspect that there is an issue associated with that 3-way joint that is causing initial loss of vacuum. Online forums have indicated potential premature failure in the brake vacuum hoses. . I was driving on highway at approx 75mph when got message power failed, overheating and breaks failed. Accelerator / gas pedal stopped working. Could have been big accident if vehicle from behind hit the car.
This is the second time that my car has had problems at 60 to 70 mph. It happens when coasting not braking. The high temperature warning for the brakes comes on and the engine shuts down. The car will coast and brake but there is no power. It takes 5 minutes before you can turn the car off and reset. Otherwise the car is locked out and will not function. Today I was on i75 going 70 mph with trucks all around. This is a safety issue. My local dealer has been responsive but the first time they ran the codes etc the national Honda folks had never heard of this. This is the second time with the same issue. First was at about 2500 miles.
It always happens in the winter time, I get in my car to leave and I have no brakes. The pedal is very hard/stiff and you have to pull the emergency brake in order to actually stop. In fact I almost hit a car today and the car had actually already been warm and went into a place for about 30 min and I assumed they would still be warm, wrong that's when I about hit a vehicle because I couldn't stop!.
I own a 2005 Honda Accord Hybrid and every winter (mn) at least 6 -10 times a year the brakes do not work. The power braking system simply doesn't work. It takes every bit of strength in my legs to apply the brakes, and it is still quite hard to come to complete stop. Seems as if the colder it is, the worse and more frequent this happens. No one can give me an answer as to why it happens or how to fix it. However, they say just warm the car up first. We have warmed our car up, kept in the garage and after 25 minutes of driving down the road, car warm, so thing can happen at any given moment.
I have a 2005 Honda Accord Hybrid. I was driving my vehicle away from my home and had trouble pressing on the brake pedal. The brake pedal would not depress and I could not use the emergency brake to stop either. The brake was hard and seemed as if it was frozen or stuck in place. When I pulled the emergency brake lever all it did was beep and flash that I had pulled it, it did not slow me down or stop me. I had gone through 2 stop signs at this point. I finally was able to get the car into reverse so that the engine would rev and the brake pedal would finally depress. That was the only thing that would work. The car did not go in reverse but it did stop enough for me to actually use the brake. I called Honda directly and because no complaints were previously issued they could not help me. My local dealers were too booked up to handle the issue as well. After it happening a total of 4 times I was finally able to get in touch with a mechanic who will be checking out the vehicle. I am very lucky that this did not end up in a crash or fatality. I had my 3 year old son in the car and I am pregnant with our second child. Systems should be in place to help people out in situations like this and there were not. For this reason I would never buy a hybrid nor a Honda again. Im hoping the mechanic I found can fix the problem or atleast figure out what it is before myself or someone else gets hurt when my brake pedal decides to fail again. I have tried letting my car warm up before leaving my home to ensure that may help and it does not. It actually made it worse and instead of it only happening once on that trip, it happened twice. When the pedal is stuck I cannot stop, I can slow down but not enough to stop. Something really should be done about this before it happens to anyone else.
I am not one to be affected by hype nor hysteria, but I do have some serious concerns about the brakes on the 2005 Honda Accord Hybrid. When driving over rough surfaces or slick (due to ice or snow) roads the 2005 Honda Accord Hybrid has a delay in braking response. There have been numerous occasions where I have almost rear-ended a car in front of me because of poor braking response/performance. I have wondered for quite some time if this was due to the regenerative braking interfering with the anti-lock braking system. The recent events with certain Toyota models have caused me contemplate whether there's an inherent problem with regenerative braking systems as a whole. Honda has not yet issued a recall regarding this problem, but when I was at my last routine service appointment, my service agent told me that other 2005 Honda Accord Hybrids have been experiencing problems with their braking systems. They offered to fix the problem, but the repair was over $1,800 - a price I could not afford. It seems to me that if the problem is endemic to this particular model, there should be a recall issued.
Brakes in my car become much less responsive to brake pedal than normal. Had to press to floor to get car to brake. Vsa modulator replaced at cost of $1600.

When starting call first thing in the am in cold weather (below 35) I must pump the brakes before driving, if not they respond as if there is no power braking occurring and hard braking is required. This will occur several times before they seem respond normally.
Dashboard lights simultaneously indicate failure anti-lock brake system, vehicle stability control system, and brakes.
- the contact stated the ima brake system does not work effectively on his 2005 Honda hybrid. He occasionally has to apply the brakes with force to stop the vehicle. The vehicle has approximately 12,000 miles. The contact stated he has taken the vehicle to the dealer, but they are unable to duplicate the failure. There are no warning indicators. Updated 02/16/07.
I was traveling east on I-195. I saw that a police officer had a vehicle pulled over on the right. I moved over to the left lane. When I did, I crossed onto the rumble strip on the left of the highway. I applied the brakes while on the rumble strip and nothing happened. The vehicle began to accelerate wildly. I tried to bring the vehicle back under control. My husband pulled the emergency brakes. Instead of slowing us down; the vehicle went out of control. I clearly remember the last moments screaming brakes! brakes! we then went sideways before going across the grass median into opposing traffic. We were immediately struck on the passenger side by a vehicle-traveling west. My husband took the full force of the impact and was killed instantly. I went into a coma. I was airlifted to texas neuro rehab in austin from capital health hamilton, NJ. Now I am permanently disabled. Not a moment in my life has gone by since that day without thinking of my husband and what happened to us. I remained in a coma until oct, 2005 I woke up in TX. I have permanently lost my ability to walk, talk, or write normally. Honda issued a recall in 2005. I received it after the accident. I never gave up hope of finding the true cause. Recent problems with other hybrid vehicles were exposed. I continued looking on the web for Honda owners with similar complaints, and have found many. Limited space prohibits me from giving you more than one link. . Read more...
