Nine problems related to speed control cable have been reported for the 1996 Honda Civic. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Throttle cable recall can not be completed due to lack of parts. Mjs.
In the first incident, the vehicle was being driven between 60- 85 mph and suddenly accelerated until the driver stepped on the brakes. The dealer acknowlwdged that the accelerator had struck and stated that the "cable" needed replacing. During the second incident, the vehicle was traveling between 30-45 mph and continued to accelerate while the driver stepped on the brakes. The driver reach down and pulled the accelerator pedal up to stop the vehicle. Again the dealer stated that the cable needed repalcing.
Accelerator cable stuck, vehicle accelerated out of control and ran into 2 parked vehicles and a tree before coming to a stop. Upon impact, air bags failed to deploy.
Fuel injection system failure, causing vehicle to idle rough afte rstarting; also, throttle cable binding.
Throttle cable failed.
Accelerator cable failed on two occasions.
Belts came of pulleys, vehicle lost control resulting in acollision. Also, replaced throttle cable/emissions/ignition/cv boots and windshield wipers.
Engine failed due to faulty key mount on crankshaft, and 2 belts came off pulley, vehicle loss control resulting in an accident. Also, replaced windshield wiper/washer, exhaust system, throttle cable, emissions, axles, brakes, cv boots, and floor mat. 8jb.
Notice sent to consumer for replacement of the accelerator cable due to possible failure, consumer not able to have repairs completed due to lack of parts. Mjs.
