Accelerator Pedal problems of the 1998 Honda Civic

Four problems related to accelerator pedal have been reported for the 1998 Honda Civic. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Accelerator Pedal problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2002

I was traveling on a wet road at 40mph. When applied brakes, the body of the vehicle jerked forward abruptly and the brakes locked up on me, causing the vehicle to skid off road. The vehicle hit concrete blocks and totaled the front end. The air bags failed to deploy. Ts.

2 Accelerator Pedal problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2001

When accelerating, pedal left drivers' foot and went down to the floor into a full open position. Vehicle continue to accelerate, even after brakes were applied. After vehicle was put into park, the accelerator went to a close position.

3 Accelerator Pedal problem

Failure Date: 11/28/1998

Vehicle was in the parking lot when consumer was backing out of a space, shifted gear into drive and accelerator pedal went to the floor , causing the vehicle to hit another vehicle and a light pole. Reason unknown. Dealer notified.

4 Accelerator Pedal problem

Failure Date: 05/30/1998

Gas pedal keep getting stuck. Consumer had to hit emergency brakes to stop vehicle.
