1 Assist problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/25/2026

Cruise control suddenly stopped working along with 5 warnings on dash which indicated to take vehicle to dealer. This occured out of the blue, at 80,000 miles, with no prior indication of a problem and after a steering recall about months ago in August. Dealer says the power steering rack motor and plugs have melted. They claimed they had no idea how. Dealer wants approx. $10k to fix, wants me to replace the steering rack and motor along with entire wiring harness. This assembly is about 3 inches from the muffler and a flimsy small heat guard. There are no signs of a fire, this is an overheating issue caused by poor engineering.

2 Assist problem of the 2025 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/07/2026

I am filing a formal safety-related complaint regarding my 2025 Honda Civic sport touring hybrid and the performance of its driver assistance systems. This vehicle uses a camera-only driver assist and lane keeping system. I previously owned a 2018 Honda Civic touring that used both radar and camera. The earlier radar+camera system performed significantly better, maintained the lane more accurately, and provided smoother, more predictable behavior. The 2025 camera-only system frequently: – drifts within the lane – loses lane tracking unexpectedly – requires frequent driver intervention – feels less stable at highway speeds in my opinion, the newer vehicle’s system represents a downgrade in functional safety compared with prior-generation Honda systems. This change was not disclosed during the sales process, and many owners may assume newer models offer equal or better driver-assist performance. My concern is that removal of radar and reliance on camera-only sensing has resulted in degraded lane keeping performance that could increase crash risk due to unexpected disengagement or poor lane centering. I request this information be reviewed as part of consumer safety monitoring of driver assistance systems. 3 Assist problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/16/2025

At speeds 35+ mph the steering has a “sticky” “notch” feeling making steering at high speed very difficult to do smoothly, especially when cornering. This has led to close-calls nearly resulting in accidents, but fortunately being avoided. I suspect it has to do with the steering rack issue that is a common complaint with this my.

4 Assist problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/14/2025

On Sunday, December 14, 2025, I was driving a 2022 Honda Civic sport with my wife in the passenger seat when the vehicle’s driver-assist/steering system unexpectedly intervened and caused the vehicle to veer off the roadway and down a steep embankment (approximately 40–50 feet) without driver input. I attempted to correct the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to respond as expected. There was no intentional steering command to leave the roadway. The vehicle appeared to steer itself, resulting in a crash. Both occupants sustained injuries. I suffered a neck/collarbone injury and a concussion. My wife suffered a concussion, a large laceration to her outer right calf, and bruising. Medical treatment was required and was sought at urgent care. After the incident, warning indicators were present on the dashboard. I later became aware that this model year has known complaints and recalls related to steering, lane-assist, or driver-assist system malfunctions. These issues were not disclosed at the time the vehicle was purchased used from a dealership. This appears to be a serious safety defect that poses a risk of injury or death to drivers and passengers. The vehicle is currently unsafe to operate.

5 Assist problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/03/2025

After driving for over 30 minutes, the steering becomes sticky. When I try to make minor corrections to stay in the lane, the steering gets stuck, requiring a little extra force, resulting in a slight over correction. At high speeds this slight over correction is very dangerous. This happens on all extended drives. It happens at all speeds.

Unknown.

7 Assist problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/19/2025

Every time I get in the car at some point in my drive, all of my safety features kickoff. Basically my adas. I can’t even use cruise control. There’s a huge safety issue because I was on a snowy road and my traction control was not on cause my Civic to lose control. Good thing I recovered it and no accident. I can drive 5 miles down the road or 200 miles, but at some point it will kick on. I have looked this up, and thousands of Honda owners are having this issue. I took my car to the dealership and they did a diagnostic on it and cannot tell me what the issue was. The dealer was prescott Honda in arizona. Thousands owners are having this issue.

8 Assist problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/17/2025

Went to start my car one night after it had been perfectly fine throughout the day when 5 warning lights came on, lane keeping assist system, collision mitigation braking system, road departure mitigation system. Auto high beam problem and adaptive cruise control system problem. I immediately went online to see how I could possibly fix the problem and found numerous message boards with people with fairly new low mileage Hondas complaining about the same issue and stating either various completely different solutions or no luck finding a solution. Other than those warning lights everything else on the car is functioning right and the battery is still in good shape.

9 Assist problem of the 2021 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/25/2024

On multiple occasions my car has applied the brake while driving on the highway as well as my caliper has become frozen and I have replaced brakes 3 times in less than one calendar year. I have all old brakes that have needed to be replaced and there is uneven wear on them.

10 Assist problem of the 2018 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/09/2024

Two components failed safety inspection: 1. Replace steering wheel assembly. Steering gear is faulty. 2. Alignment- 4 wheel alignment- required with steering gear replacement. Yes, available for inspection upon request. Diagnostics ran 12/9/2024. This is a repeat problem as this occurred in 1/2023, as well. Safety concern: I am a single mom and three instances while my child was in the vehicle the car has self corrected it’s steering towards other vehicles in traffic. Yes, problem has been reproduced. Both codes received from service center 12/2/2024 and diagnostics ran by dealer 12/9/2024 (first available appointment. ) Honda dealership has diagnosed (can provide documentation) and Honda corp has been made aware of this 12/3/2024 initial contact to NHTSA & Honda corp with suspected issue and called both 12/9/2024 with confirmation upon receipt of diagnostics. This occurred in January 2023 and the entire steering system was replaced. Upon replacement the issue has not acted up again until around 11/29/24. The replacement did not make a full two years before reoccurring failure.

11 Assist problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/18/2024

The power steering rack assembly had to be replaced on my vehicle because the sensors that notify the safety systems of the direction the steering wheel is pointing failed while I was driving my son to school. The result of this failure caused a multiple system failure resulting in an inability to steer the car at speed. The lane keep assist system was actively fighting against my driver input as I was driving, effectively locking the steering wheel in a stationary position. This failure not only put my and my son's life in danger but other drivers on the road as well. This could have very easily caused a severe collision considering the ability to steer a motor vehicle is arguably the most integral part of operating one. The car has decently low mileage for being 7 years old and is well-maintained. This issue occurred suddenly without any prior warning lamps, messages, etc.

12 Assist problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/31/2024

I was driving straight going 35mph on a 2 lane rd when my steering wheel starting making a weird noise & almost was shaking. The steering wheel then locked up to the left & wouldn’t move. This caused my driver side tire to go into the curb, & at this point my steering wheel was spinning in circles & all I could do was brake. After bumping off the curb I then was thrusted back over to the right lane (due to having no steering control) where I came to a stop grazing another vehicle. My insurance performed diagnostics on the vehicle & determined the steering rack housing assembly part failed, causing the accident. There was no damage at all to the vehicle that would indicate this part was damaged as result of the incident, therefore they are calling it “pre existing damage” even though Honda did a multipoint inspection on my car 08/03/2024 (not even a whole 3 months prior) that did not mention a single steering problem. It was ultimately determined this failure is what caused the incident. Upon further research I have found millions of Civics are recalled for this issue but not my year of the vehicle. However, I have found countless stories exactly like mine with steering failure all regarding the 2019 Honda Civic. I am now without a vehicle, insurance refused to pay for the failed part, and I have reached out to Honda over 10 times trying to get in contact with someone about this to no avail. I truly was terrified for my life and feel this needs to be addressed because as previously mentioned, there are countless other 2019 Honda Civic owners with the same horrifying stories. This puts not only owners at risk but all other drivers.

13 Assist problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/13/2024

The steering wheel start shaking, delayed, hard to steer because it was stiff. I had gotten into a collision on the freeway due to not being able to control the steering wheel. There no other vehicle involved in the accident. On October 5th 2024, the recall was issued but I didn’t receive any warnings till I went online to do research. Honda did not reach out in an orderly fashion. The police and my insurance company were both there to aid the situation. There was no warning lamps at all. My vehicle is currently at lia Honda located in albany, NY. It has been 2 weeks since I called to file case with Honda’s headquarters and still have not been assisted.

14 Assist problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/05/2024

I got this car (2022 Honda Civic touring) as preowned a little over 2 months ago. It had 39k miles. I inspected the car and thought it looked perfect and so I got it. In getting it, I opted out on getting extended warranty for personal reason. However the car had 60 days dealer warranty. After several times driving it, I noticed that my arms get sore. I thought it was just the way it drives. I drove one of my friends car which is the same car same year and it just drives way smoother. Mine is really sticky. I have to really put effort into keeping the wheel straight. When I make slight turns, the wheel doesnt go back to going straight, it gets stuck, so I have to pull it again to go straight. I heard about the recall on this car about the steering. I brought it in to Honda but they said that my car isnt affected by it and that my part was okay. Due to my schedule I was only able to bring it in until almost the dealer warranty expires. However, they said that the car was fine, that they didnt notice the issue ive been experiencing. They told me that it drove good and advised me to get an allignment done. By the time the allignment place was able to get me in, the warranty had already expired and so I was really hoping that the allignment would fix it. Unfortunately, it didnt not. My steering is still so stiff/sticky. I dont know what to do.

15 Assist problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/31/2024

Power steering rack replacements still defective causing safety concerns while driving. . Have to fight electronic steering, at high speeds steering wheel becomes more difficult to control.

16 Assist problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/21/2024

Please help. I have purchased my 2024 Honda Civic last year in 2023. I’ve had my Honda Civic for a year now. I recently noticed my steering wheel “sticky” as some other 2022-2024 Honda Civic owners have reported and stated on all media’s after researching. This mainly occurs to me after the car has warmed up and or its at its normal temperatures and driving. The steering wheel can feel some “fight” even at 2 degree adjustment while driving. I feel unsafe to drive my car. I have read and discovered some have recalls for this matter of steering rack problems. Honda contacted me weeks after purchasing my Honda Civic and scheduled me to bring in my Honda to have it checked for the recall and apparently my Honda does not have a recall. I have called Honda today, 8/26/2024, and I explained what I am experiencing with my steering and they said due to my car being over 36k miles it’s no longer under warranty even though this problem seems to be more of a recall type and should not require to be under warranty. Perhaps this recall has not been called for yet or discovered and I am reaching out to get help. As I am concerned and I am worried about my safety the safety for others as I am driver and transport passengers on daily basis as part of my job. Please once again help with my case and please investigate. As part of researching I did discover a rough cost of the steering rack and it is expensive and it was just for the part not including labor. This is unsafe and unfair. I hope whoever reads my description can understand my situation and help me. I am willing to cooperate with any information needed for this investigation as I believe it to be a future recall especially since the car has not had any accidents nor damages whatsoever. Please help my case.

17 Assist problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/16/2024

My car was purchased used with 79k miles and the longer the car is running, the stiffer the steering wheel becomes. Any small moments are stiff and make the car jerk to much and it causes me to have to fight to keep the car in a straight line while driving. Lane keeping assistance is also driving way too close to one side since the steering wheel causes the car to struggle to make any small changes. It gets close to cars that are next to me and can potentially cause an accident if I make one small move. They appeared for me on 8/15 and I purchased this car on 8/14. A steering wheel should be smooth and not so stiff. I have an appointment coming up on Monday for a diagnostic but I am afraid they’ll tell me it’s out of warranty or there is nothing wrong with it. Which is impossible since so many others like me are having the same issue. My car needs to become part of this recall to be able to afford to change the steering shell rack or fix what needs to be fixed for my safety and those around me.

18 Assist problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/24/2024

While driving the wheel moved trying to correct itself. It was raining so that caused us to hydroplane into a ditch.

19 Assist problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/01/2024

The steering sticks when making minor adjustments. Could potentially be dangerous if needing to make a quick turn.

20 Assist problem of the 2021 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/22/2024

Steering wheel catches and I have had to replace a strut due to the car wearing out my tire. I have kept proper maintenance and align my wheels regularly. This is a manufacturer defect not yet recalled. I've seen multiple people with this issue claiming it may ve the lkas system or steering worm or steering component issue. This needs to be recalled as it will cause death in the right circumstances. Honda do better. Your reputation is degrading.

21 Assist problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/01/2024

The steering wheel keeps sticking while driving. This is specially dangerous while in a turn because you have to force steering wheel out of the turn and quickly correct the vehicle’s reaction as it becomes unstuck. This is a huge safety issue and is scary to drive like this.

22 Assist problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/23/2024

I was getting on the interstate when all of a sudden the collision mitigation assist and lane keeping assist pop up on my dashboard. It was a very scary moment.

23 Assist problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/15/2024

I am noticing intermittent issues with adas with all the following errors pop up at once. The issue comes on randomly and goes back to normal randomly. * adaptive cruise control problem * collision mitigation braking system problem * lane keep assist problem * road departure mitigation system problem * braking system error has not been confirmed by an independent service/dealer/insurance/police. No other warning messages before this.

24 Assist problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/31/2024

This was a single car incident (no other cars involved). The car was going on the 270 degree curved onramp to enter the highway. Lane keep assist (lkas) came on at or near the end of the onramp which caused the vehicle to head from the inside part of the lane/curve towards the left side of the onramp lane/curve and toward the left side retaining wall. Driver attempted to course correct but steering was not responsive in time and the car hit the left side wall completely disabling steering. The car came off the left wall and went across the onramp lane and struck the right side retaining wall before coming to a stop. Airbags did not deploy. Seatbelt may not have locked/tightened at impact with the wall either. Lkas initiated the move into the wall, the steering was stuck/non-responsive or perhaps slow to take driver input. Multiple previous reports to the dealer about steering being problematic were each unable to confirm a problem and this vehicle was not considered part of the existing potentially related recall. The lkas is believed to have engaged with flashing warning just before crash. After the crash, the driver seatbelt "red x" shows on display, a lkas error shows on display, and a supplemental restraint system error shows on the display.

25 Assist problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/29/2024

Vehicle 1 (complaint vehicle) was traveling on interstate highway in moderate traffic in right lane while traveling around a slight curve traveling at 60 mph. Vehicle 2 traveling in left lane merged to right lane with approximately 2 car lanes of spacing in from of vehicle 1 (complaint vehicle). I lifted off accelerate in vehicle 1 (complaint vehicle) to slow down and Honda sensing collison mitigation braking system abruptly apply very hard braking resulting in vehicle 1(complaint vehicle) nosing driving and straightened the steering on the curve. The braking and steering straightening resulted in vehicle 1 (complaint vehicle) crossing the lane line into the left lane by approximately 2 feet before the vehicle could be recovered and a speed reduction by 15-20 mph. No vehicles were in left lane next to vehicle 1 (complaint vehicle) at the time of incident or behind vehicle 1 (complaint vehicle) to have resulted in a collusion. If vehicles were either behind or in the lane at the time of the incident the Honda sensing collison mitigation braking system actions would have directly resulted in a collision from its intervention. Contacted Honda and reported incident and inquired how to disable the system permanently and was told the Honda representative that they would pass along the information to "engineering" and the system can only be disabled for each drive and would turn on each time the ignition cycled. I then inquired if anybody would be reaching out to correct the issue and was informed that nobody would reaching out to me about the issue. I expressed the safety issues and was informed other than notifying engineering nothing would be addressed for me.

26 Assist problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/23/2024

This incident occurs daily and poses a severe risk to not only myself but other vehicles on the road, with adas systems off the 11th gen Civics seem to have a mind of its own. When traveling above 40 mph on a long curvy road/highway or raining, the steering wheel becomes "notchy" and will lock in place for moments at a time. The only way to gain control of the steering wheel is to apply extra force and once applied the steering wheel is released and causes the driver to overcorrect. I purchased my Civic 2 months ago purely for its reliability and the safety ratings given by the nhsta. Honda has initially released the service bulletin to address their faulty replacement racks stating "certain service part electric power steering (eps) gearbox assemblies were not made to proper specification. " in reality this is a lie they are trying to say the scope is less than 5% of their vehicles but the truth is that every single vehicle sold with this same rack has or will in the short future report this issue, some drivers think it is only "annoying" and some dealers are telling customers its "normal" I am completely appalled that there has not been a stop-sale issued for this as the main component of a car is the steering and if that is faulty than what else matters! they have managed to put the same rack in multiple vehicles in the last few years and you wont begin to experience the issue unless you drive (few 1,000mi on the car) longer than 45 minutes. Civic type r's are less likely to experience this as that vehicle uses a different rack (probably more $). Owners who have gotten a replacement eps system are finding the issue to reoccur after 12 months. This points to the fact that not only is this a manufacturing/quality issue but a purley failed engineering design. I have an appt with a dealer but they will replace the rack with another faulty one, Honda needs to shut everything down and put the safety of their customers first before we all end up dead or kill someone.

27 Assist problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/03/2024

Steering is best described as “notchy” or “sticky,” it feels stiff. Minor wheel corrections on the highway cause the car to overcorrect and overcompensate steering. Small adjustments made while driving do not feel smooth.

28 Assist problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/02/2024

The steering has become notchie. You can feel the wheel jump with slight movement. It use to be smooth, now it has an odd jerkyness to it. Alignment and tires good. Care has 40k.

29 Assist problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/11/2024

I was driving in the free way, was trying to change lanes, and my steering wheel, got stuck and when I try to change back to my lane, it swerves loosely. Not sure what’s going on.

30 Assist problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/10/2024

My steering wheel gets sticky at high speeds on turns and gets stuck, took it to dealer and they say it’s nothing to worry about but I almost hit a curve while turning on the freeway. And when I also reverse there’s a clicking sound everything and they don’t heard it. Pleas fix this problem. I don’t feel safe in the vehicle anymore and it just sits in my garage now.

31 Assist problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/03/2024

About 30 minutes into a drive the steering wheel or electronic steering will begin to malfunction. When driving at high speeds, you are unable to make small minor corrections to stay center in your lane due to the steering wheel feeling like it’s sticking in one direction. It takes a considerable amount of force in order to make the correction resulting in an over correction. When traveling at high speed this can put the driver and passangers at risk because an over correction can cause the car to lose traction with the road. I’ve taken the car into Honda and it is currently being inspected. They told me yesterday that they were ‘having trouble replicating the problem’ which doesn’t mean the problem isn’t there. As far as I know and seen there have no being any light indicators on.

32 Assist problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

When turning or in a lane and your slighting adjusting the steering feels sticky very sticky sometimes almost like it’s the power steering rack.

33 Assist problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

When driving the car after about 30-35 mph, the steering wheel becomes a tug of war. Steering will continuously get stuck in a certain direction, causing operator to continuously over correct steering. This is becoming more and more of a problem, which is now a danger in driving. The dealership has confirmed the issue after inspecting the system and driving the car. There has not been any warning lights what so ever when this failure started. Honda should be switching drivers out of there cars for newer year. Car has only 9800 miles.

34 Assist problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

My 2023 Civic steering wheel seems to stick when I'm driving. If the wheel is kept straight for a second it "sticks" and requires a good bit of force to become "unstuck". When driving at highway speeds getting it unstuck usually causes it to jerk and in turn overcorrect constantly. There are no warning lights and I currently have an appointment to take it to the dealer for inspection.

35 Assist problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/31/2023

Incident occurs on most highway drives when lane assist is activated and then deactivated. Steering tends to “stick” and not allow smooth motion. Can also be felt at a complete stop from occasion.
