1 Warning problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/08/2026

I am reporting repeated electronic safety system malfunctions in my 2023 Honda Civic sport sedan that occurred while driving at highway speeds and present a serious safety concern. In June 2025, while driving at highway speed, multiple warning lights and messages suddenly appeared, including: brake system warning, road departure mitigation system warning, parking brake/brake hold warning, and adaptive cruise control warning. These warnings appeared simultaneously without prior notice, raising concern about whether the braking and safety systems were functioning properly while the vehicle was in motion. I took the vehicle to a Honda dealership for diagnosis. The dealer did not identify a specific electronic or mechanical defect and instead claimed the issue was caused by liquid spilled near the electronic parking brake switch. I was told the repair was not covered under warranty and paid approximately $600 out of pocket. No evidence was provided explaining how this would cause failures across multiple safety systems. In January 2026, the same group of warning lights appeared again under similar conditions while driving at highway speed. This recurrence strongly suggests the issue was not caused by driver error but may be related to an intermittent electronic, sensor, or control system defect. I have a scheduled dealer appointment tomorrow to address this second occurrence of electronic malfunctioning. Because these warnings involve critical braking and collision mitigation systems and occurred while the vehicle was in motion, they present a potential safety risk. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can document and evaluate whether this represents a broader safety defect.

2 Warning problem of the 2025 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/07/2026

I am filing a formal safety-related complaint regarding my 2025 Honda Civic sport touring hybrid and the performance of its driver assistance systems. This vehicle uses a camera-only driver assist and lane keeping system. I previously owned a 2018 Honda Civic touring that used both radar and camera. The earlier radar+camera system performed significantly better, maintained the lane more accurately, and provided smoother, more predictable behavior. The 2025 camera-only system frequently: – drifts within the lane – loses lane tracking unexpectedly – requires frequent driver intervention – feels less stable at highway speeds in my opinion, the newer vehicle’s system represents a downgrade in functional safety compared with prior-generation Honda systems. This change was not disclosed during the sales process, and many owners may assume newer models offer equal or better driver-assist performance. My concern is that removal of radar and reliance on camera-only sensing has resulted in degraded lane keeping performance that could increase crash risk due to unexpected disengagement or poor lane centering. I request this information be reviewed as part of consumer safety monitoring of driver assistance systems. 4 Warning problem of the 2025 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/09/2025

I've previously reported the cmbs (collision mitigation braking system) and rdms (road departure mitigation system) warning messages that have been appearing too frequently. Today is the day it finally happened, my wife was driving on the highway when auto cruise control with lane keep assist set at 66 on the passing lane, with a truck to the right. Halfway passing the truck on auto cruise control with lane keep assist, our Honda suddenly automatically braked (went from 66mph to ~56mph, there were no vehicles in front of her). She urgently took back control and sped up as the warning lights flashed (collision mitigation braking system problem - 60mph and road departure mitigation system - 58mph, pictures attached) and the driving assist features that were originally on all became disabled. All of this happened at about the same time in a manner of ~3 seconds. She was lucky that no one was behind her at that moment, and she did not get into an accident or worse! Honda has done nothing to fix this issue, and we have already taken the vehicle to the dealership's service 3 times already. Please expand the investigation to all Honda vehicles that uses their driver assistance system including models of newer years! this is really dangerous!! I've included photos of many of the previous times the error/warning message has appeared, and I've included the photo of the error/warning message that appeared right after incident occurred today. These error/warning messages has come up at least over 50+ times now since I've owned this car.

6 Warning problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/06/2025

The vehicle steering wheel feels stuck in position while driving, it releases the initial sticking feeling when I force the turn and it continues to feel stuck in place every time the steering doesn’t turn to either side and I try to turn again it requires extra force to release the stuck in place feeling. I took to dealership and asked if there was a recall and they told me only on newer models but not on my car model. The initial steering stuck in place causes delay when I need to steer quickly in traffic, I believe t’s a safety concern. My car only has 39137 miles on the odometer.

7 Warning problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/26/2025

Found out the my car has a recall last December 2024. I drove to my dealership and told them about it. They said they dont have available parts for the recall in my car and the service advisor I talked to was told me that they have the parts for the recall but they prioritize the newer car so that they can sell it. Then I called the manufacturer and let them know what the dealership was told me. 2 days later the manufacturer called me and said that they contacted my dealership and letting me know that they were be able to fix my car about the safety recall. But after I drove my car to my dealership and got it fixed and its all good as they said, but when I drove my car nothing change and its gets more difficult to control the steering wheel until now. Most drivers thinks I'm drunk and keep their distance away from my car. Then I brought my car back to the dealership and told them about it and they said they already done the repaired and got it fix but the repaired seems unsuccessful.

8 Warning problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/11/2025

I get a random warning that is an issue with the braking system and the brake light comes on. The lane departure and cruise control is shut off while the vehicle is in motion. There is a sudden and unexpected drop in speed when the cruise control is shut off by the vehicle. The vehicle remains operable without the systems activated the warnings go away after restarting.

9 Warning problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/12/2024

I bought my car from Honda Civic on colerain avenue cincinnati ohio in 2023. In December 2024 I started having issue with my driver assistant technologies. My driver assistant technologies lights started flashing . As they were flashing none of my assistant technologies were working. When they finally went off it gave me a message to call the dealer. Which I did immediately. They told me to bring my vehicle in and they would check it. Service department calibrated the camera on the windshield. Picked my vehicle up about a month and a half after it happened again. Brought my vehicle in for the second time to the service department. Picked my [xxx] up for the second time. About a month and a half to two months and happen again. Vehicle in for the third time. They stated that it was a windshield that I had replaced by someone outside of Honda. They said I had to have my windshield replaced and also the camera by them. It cost me $1,000 for the windshield the camera was not charged to me. At this point it was like a guessing game. Picking my vehicle up for the third time. 2 months after picking it up the third time it did it again on [xxx]. I am looking for another Honda dealer to take it to to see if they could figure out what it's going on with that. I have all of my receipts. They can't seem to fix it at Honda Civic on colerain. I was told that if they couldn't fix that I would have to keep my vehicle as is. This is a safety hazard all I'm asking for is to have my vehicle and working condition. That is not happening. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

10 Warning problem of the 2025 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/30/2024

Unusual behavior with the "driver assistance system", specifically cmbs (collision mitigation braking system) and rdms (road departure mitigation system) warning messages appear too frequently. The first time this error appeared was when driving home from the lot after purchasing the vehicle (bought at 56 miles). After the first appearance I've seen this error appear ~60% of the time when driving or idle (these errors stay on then disappear within ~3 seconds of it appearing). My vehicle was inspected by the purchase dealer's service personnel, but they claim that there is no error logs recorded on the car's s and they could not replicate the error. At their direction I have since brought back the vehicle to monitor for the errors again so I can bring it back to the dealer for them to try to replicate this error again. . . I am aware of the cmbs issue with Honda vehicles up to 2022. I am very sad and surprised that the 2025 vehicles also have this issue. I have not yet randomly braked on the freeway (thank god) but I am fearful that my vehicle is next because Honda says they cannot find an issue currently. After noticing the frequent appearance of the warnings, I began documenting the warnings to the best of my ability with photos. To be safe I am unable to document the photo while driving so I am only able to take the pictures on the occasion when I am in the passenger seat when my wife is driving. I have attached two instances of when these errors pop up, one instance at 192 miles parked, and one instance later driving at 35 mph at 196 miles. Unfortunately, due to my misplaced faith in Honda, I was unable to document the previous warnings, but I will try my best to safely document all future ones. Please NHTSA, investigate further into this and pressure Honda to fix these vehicles. There will be more accidents and deaths if they are not held accountable. I am stuck with the vehicle, unable to purchase another one. I hope we Honda owners will be safe.

11 Warning problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/14/2024

When I tried to start the vehicle on 10/14/24, it did not start, however it started showing various messages on the electronic dashboard. The vehicle was towed to john eagle Honda of dallas (Honda dealer) on 10/14/24 around 11:15 am. I am enclosing the diagnostic report run on the vehicle by the john eagle Honda of dallas on 10/15/24 which shows some of the messages I had seen on the dashboard. My dashboard never showed me low battery at any time but the car did not start and the message of lane departure, brake failure messages came on the dashboard. I have lojack app service on my phone which tracks everything on my vehicle. I used the vehicle on 10/11/24 and 10/12/24 and there was no issue in the vehicle nor did I see any dashboard warnings. The dealer kept the car overnight stating that they were too busy on 10/14/24 and promised me that they will provide alternate vehicle on 10/15/24 morning as per my phone call. I went to the dealership on the 15th at 8:50 am to pick up the alternate vehicle, the service advisor said I can take my vehicle since he had changed the battery and it was safe to drive and did not provide me the invoice for the replaced battery. I asked the service advisor for the diagnostic report and he informed me that everything was okay in the report. I insisted on taking the print out of the diagnostic report and had to wait to collect it. Seeing the time on the report I am able to understand that they ran the diagnostic report while I was waiting. After driving my vehicle from the dealership and not having new battery invoice in my hand I called Honda motor company customer service and narrated my dealership visit details along with being uncomfortable on the safety of the vehicle. I didn't get any help from them as well. They created a case number for me. They said that someone will reach out to me and no one has till date. If you need any other information please feel free to contact me.

13 Warning problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/24/2024

22-24 Honda Civic steering rack recall I feel to have no control of my vehicle and that my life as well as others are put at risk. I took my car to Honda for the safety inspection for the active recall they falsely dismissed according to Honda corporate. Nothing has been inspected other than my safety inspection when the dealership passed my car. I scheduled an appointment for a diagnosis as corporate told me to do after speaking to them, but the dealer didn’t do the diagnosis on my vehicle they just drove it and said it’s driving normal but once we returned they ordered a whole new steering rack for my vehicle after the service department passed my vehicle, but then informed me they sent the steering rack back and that I needed to go to the dealership I purchased my car from which is 41 minutes away after I stated the driving conditions of my vehicle and the potential risk to myself as well as others on the roadway. ”refusal of service” lane departure signal this started 1/17/24 to be exact but has became more of a quite frequent issue since then.

14 Warning problem of the 2018 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/07/2024

I filled complaint few days ago and want to update findings. I brought car to Honda dealership due to sticking steering wheel. They right away were aware of the problem and asked the service manager to come speak to me. He said he would take the car for a quick drive around parking lot to verify problem. Upon return he said the steering rack was definitely the problem and had to be replaced. I asked how he was so sure of this, was this a common problem? he said yes, it’s a growing issue and had already replaced 5-6 in the last month on the year Civics and crvs. They worked up a quote for replacing the rack. $6,971. 60! the car only has 57,291 miles on it, it is out of warranty by 13 months. He said if had only been 6 months out of warranty he could have covered it. He said it was out of his hands. Cost of this repair is 30% of the cars value! I asked if the car was safe to drive as this is my daughter’s car. He said in his opinion it was, and he didn’t think it would get worse. My daughter said problem gets worse after about 40 minutes of driving, so I just took it on a long drive. Not only does it get worse but it’s almost uncontrollable. I gave her my car to drive until we figure out what to do. We certainly do not have the money to repair this as I’m sure 1,000’s of other owners who have the same problem. This is going to start causing accidents on our roadways. This is a very serious issue that Honda is very aware of.

15 Warning problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/29/2024

There is a recall on other similar vehicles but my VIN isn’t showing as one with a recall. However, I am also experiencing “sticking” while steering. Brought the car to the dealership and received conflicting information. We were told that the tech was able to replicate the issue we stated when he test drove the car. Dealer ordered the part, which appears to be just a bolt that they stated was back ordered for 3 weeks. This was the second time we brought the car. The first time, they supposedly just took a photo of the part number to see if it was part of the recall or not and never inspected the vehicle thoroughly. We are concerned that the dealership is not doing their due diligence to ensure our safety. Aj, the service rep from Honda west said he can’t really confirm whether it’s safe to drive the car or not when I asked him what we should do until the part arrives. Then when I asked about a possible rental car because I feel unsafe driving the vehicle, he said that Honda doesn’t consider this a safety issue so they can’t provide us with a loaner or rental car, but continued to ask us if we wanted to leave the car (for 3 weeks). We are concerned that not all vehicle part numbers related to the eos issue have been identified to be included in the recall. Hoping for some assistance.

16 Warning problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/06/2024

Driving down the high way at about 55-60 miles an hour went to overtake a vehicle and brake system light, and flashing parking brake late came on all systems such as cruise control, lane mitigation, lane keep assist, brake assist and reduced braking performance messages came up on the dash about the foruth time this happens, had gone to the dealer before for the same issue.

17 Warning problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/25/2023

While I was turning my vehicle it set off the lane departure feature throwing me into a concentrate decretive section on the road. My blinker was on and the feature shouldn’t have went off knowing I was turning my vehicle through me off the road. I was so shocked I peed myself.

18 Warning problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/22/2023

When starting my car, it struggles to start and then the emissions system light stays on, warning of engine power being affected. The car sputters when driving. The lane departure light stays on, as well as the braking system light, which warns of potential problems with braking. My safety is at risk when trying to accelerate and sputtering instead. Since the problem started today, December 22, I can’t go to the dealer until after christmas. No one else has inspected the vehicle yet. There were no other warnings, however steering did feel strange, starting a couple of days ago.

Uknown.

20 Warning problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/12/2023

All of the lights come on periodically (lane departure can’t be used, it says braking system error, it says braking system could be decreased and says to have car serviced) I’ve taken it to the dealership once and they could not replicate it and said it could be a sensor but wasn’t sure I paid for a inspection because they didn’t know. Searching things now there are a ton of forums with the same problem for the same model and make.

21 Warning problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/01/2023

We purchased our Honda in 2022. Within three months the lane departure system was failing. The wheel was jerky and at times difficult to correct. This occurred while staying in lane and not close to lines on the road. We took it in they identified the issue and replaced it. Within nine months it failed again. This time even worse. They identified it was the same issue. This was December of 2023. Our dealership advised it would be three months to get the necessary parts in. Three months passed. We called, part not in would be another three months. We called back December of 2024. Was advised Honda had canceled the part delivery. I assume due to recall. We would have never been notified had we not been persistent in calling. A letter or phone call from dealership of Honda would have been nice. The excuses were unacceptable. Our concerns were never addressed as the customer service in this issue was non-existing. Our vehicle is getting worse and still this part has not been replaced. Unexcusable. This car had 300 miles on it when purchased, brand new.

22 Warning problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/27/2023

On October 5, 2023, I had my wife take our 2022 Honda Civic touring to coggin Honda of orlando for maintenance minder a,1services and to have them check as to why the car is making a funny sound when turning the steering wheel. Via text message, she informed me that they told her that the steering rack needed to be replaced and that it would cost $2245 with all the other services needed for the vehicle. I declined to have it fixed at that moment. October 19, 2023, I received an alert via Honda link and saw there was a recall on the steering rack. On October 27, 2023 I took the car back to coggin Honda hoping they would now repair as it is now evident that the steering rack malfunction is not my fault and has an active safety recall. According to the technician, once he took pics of the part, he claimed it passed the inspection. That didn’t make sense to me. My Honda link app still shows that the recall is active and I deserve the remedy owed to me and hope that the lack there of hasn’t caused further damage to my automobile. Also, I was told that the vehicle warranty had expired but the documentation attached clearly states that it is in effect until 6/25/24. Please notice that they state that there are no active recalls on the vehicle. So now I am filing this complaint to have this safety issue resolved and to receive my remedy. Please see attached files.

23 Warning problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

24 Warning problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/04/2023

Steering wheel suddenly became stiff, gives resistance to regain control of wheel. . This happens when driving with computer aids on & off. . When driving straight with very minimal movement of the wheel the steering becomes locked in that position and will force car to drift out of lane. This problem occurred in highway and city travel.

25 Warning problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/24/2023

This car followed me all the way home. I knew the driver was following me because I took a fake route home. I eventually stopped and he stopped with me. This driver is not mentally stable enough to own a license.

26 Warning problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

Good day, while driving home from city of philadelphia on may 1st 2023 at 8 pm on rout 95 north bound for 1&1/2 hours of stop and go at 10mph or less, once we passed the obstruction of traffic (placement of new over head sign), regaining speed limit the steering was very difficult stiff like having very little power steering. I am 59 and remember vehicles w/o power steering. Once off the highway on suburban streets the steering seemed to be pulling me off the road towards driver side and a warning would appear that I was departing lane when I reacted to pull towards middle of lane seemed like it was way to much and quickly finding my self in the next lane over, (very scary) thank god no body was in that lane. Happy to be home arms very tired. The next day I read over the owners manual for I do not drive the car often and followed the procedure to shut off driver assist. While driving after disabling driver assist the unit came back on by it's self with in ten minutes and would randomly tell me to brake. I did google this and apparently I am not the only one. Currently have an appointment with the dealership that I purchased the vehicle from.

27 Warning problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/29/2023

29 Warning problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/16/2023

I leased the Honda Civic from a dealer in maryland and the first advertisement for this car was this car has lane departure warning and adaptive cruise etc. I report some incidents of inefficacy these systems in my car while it showed alarm and Honda maintenance team assured me that it works perfectly. I was driving on fwy I-40 west in new mexico. After wind blow my whole front shield became foggy and the system did not show any alarm that it is not working. I ended up deviated from the road and my car was totaled. I called Honda customer service they assigned an investigation ticket but after several follow up nothing happened. Ca attorney general office referred me to you.

30 Warning problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/10/2023

The car was attempting to correct itself even when I was in the middle of the lane. Switching lanes often caused this as well. On multiple occasions it attempted to over correct me into other drivers and at high speeds this could have killed me if I was not paying attention. Upon informing the dealership they asked “what do you want us to do”. Upon informing Honda corporate they said they would make note and send it to engineers with no direct action taken.

31 Warning problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/16/2022

After driving for 30 to 45 minutes the steering becomes sticky and won’t got straight veering left or right slightly. The wheel often gets stuck veering left and needs extra force to bring it back often causing an over correction. Started at 22000 miles. This happened during winter months but the last two weeks during spring I’ve noticed it less so it may be related to colder temps. Also gets stuck in curves wanting continue turning by itself rather than straightening itself. On a couple occasions when the lane keep assist is activated it veers strongly to the opposite direction also need extra force to bring the wheel back to center.

32 Warning problem of the 2021 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/12/2022

The front windshield camera that utilizes Honda sense safety tech keeps misreading certain traffic signals and inadvertently activates the phantom braking. Sometimes it blinks ultimate times to even cause the vehicle to apply it’s emergency brakes despite no objects present on or near the intersection(s) of major traffic light routes and or construction sites with very bright lighting. Luckily no other motorists were behind me. The lane departure warning feature would also mistake the vehicle for moving over the designated lane when driving down or uphill or in some interstate highways even though the vehicle is maintaining centered lane control. I have consulted my nearest Honda dealership on the matter and was told the manufacturer would have issue a recall for the Honda safety sense since they do not have the hardware nor software to resolve the matter in a timely fashion. Not sure if other 10th generation Honda Civic owners are experiencing the anomaly but it’s a monthly occurrence.

33 Warning problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/29/2022
