1 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2002 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/23/2020

Progressive failing of the multiplex control unit, part # 38200-s5p-a11, for my 2002 Honda Civic hx 5sp has resulted in various problems that can prove to be very dangerous such as failure of turn signals, tail lights, windshield wiper motor, dashboard lights, dome light, power door locks, etc. Exactly when these failures occurred are hard to pin point but so far I have avoided property and bodily harm but not great inconvenience and repair cost. Please act to prevent this problem from causing harm or loss of life.

2 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/03/2016

Following my wife after a recall on her car, it began to rain lightly. Knowing we were entering a 75mph turnpike, I phoned her to advise her to turn on her lights. She did. At the stop light before getting on the turnpike, all I could see were 2 tiny led bulb types on both sides. As she began to reach speed, she got 10-15 car lengths ahead of me. We knew the factory spoiler causes a vortex behind her car as we wipe off black powder that builds on the back of her car each day when she comes home from work. I've never driven behind her let alone in the rain. With the vortex creating a boiling spray, and the tiny led bulbs, I could not see her at all. Just a spray. No lights. At our exit close to home, as she took off, I could not see her tail lights even 5 car lengths back. It was day time I forgot to mention but cloudy and as stated, light rain. I could see her brake as the brake lights use a common bulb. Again, with the lights in the on position, the only time I saw her tail light was in the garage. The vehicle has two issues. The spoilers create a spray of water reducing visibility of the backbof her car in the rain or fog to zero. Honda even shows photos with their lights on. Tiny angled led's pointing up and in. And not nearly bright enough to be seen in rain. Heavy rain or dense fog, could be catastrophic. My wife drives I-40 & I-44 to and from work daily. 13 miles. She's had the car just a few months. I am concerned each morning. She currently leaves when it's dark. I'm worried about the spring rains and dawns early light wheather she will be seen. As stated earlier, the spoilers cause the turbulence or vortex behind the car. The lights are too small and lumens not strong enough to be seen. Photos below will show on city streets and in our driveway. The photos I took from my phone the last few blocks home and into the garage. This is bad! she loves this car.

3 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/08/2012

Tag and rear running lights failed 11/28/2012. Rick case Honda dealer said the entire rear tail light harness was brittle due to age and required replacement at a cost of $ 228 labor and $186 for the parts. In my mind this main harness is poorly designed for the life time of the vehicle and should have connectors that allow repair for less cost to consumer since tail lights are safety issue and I observe a number of Honda Civics on the highway with failed or failing tail lights. I think the wiring harness should be higher grade wire due to safety concerns or have connectors added to insure repairs are easy to conduct for the do it yourself repairs or improve the design so failures due not occur with age of the vehicle.

4 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

I purchased a 2005 Honda Civic new. The vehicle now belongs to my son. The vehicle was taken to the Honda dealer for maintenance since I purchased it. Approx. 6 months ago my son was stopped by the police on several occasions due to the license plate light and all of the tail lights being in-op. It was taken immediately to the dealer. They replaced the bulbs did a diagnostic check and the light still did not work. They could not figure it out. He took the vehicle to meineke for state inspection and of course it could not pass due to the lights. When the mechanic look at the wiring it had been sliced in three different places and taped back together. The wiring had either been jimmied apart, or something snagged them. I never added anything to the car. It belong to me until sept last year. It is apparent it came from the factory this way. It cost several hundred dollars to correct. Honda is not helping me with this.
