Case #16014967 topic: recalls/campaigns VIN: [xxx] vehicle mileage: 64,935 description: subject: transmission recall concern – 2015 Honda Cr-v cvt dear american Honda customer service / NHTSA, I am reporting transmission problems with my 2015 Honda Cr-v that appear directly related to the cvt transmission recall and service bulletin for 2015–2016 models. Timeline of events: • Aug 25, 2025: vehicle lost battery charge despite a new battery; aaa confirmed battery was good but required a jump. • oct 29, 2025: battery failed again; required another jump. • Nov 30, 2025: battery dead once more; aaa again confirmed battery was good but not charging. After replacement, the car stalled mid-road, “d” light disappeared, and only restarting allowed me to move briefly. • Dec 1, 2025: mechanic confirmed transmission fluid was fine. Shortly after, vehicle experienced jolts, “d” light disappeared, and car stalled completely near home. It would only move in reverse and had to be rolled back to the mechanic. Diagnostic results: • p0741 – torque converter clutch circuit performance/stuck off • p0780 – shift malfunction • p0746 – pressure control solenoid a performance/stuck off • p1898 – cvt drive pulley pressure control valve stuck on/off these codes match known cvt transmission issues documented by Honda, including hydraulic pressure regulation failures and belt slippage. My vehicle has never received recall updates or pcm reprogramming, yet it is now showing the exact failures described in Honda’s bulletin. Although my VIN does not currently appear in Honda’s recall database, I request that Honda review my case and extend recall or goodwill coverage, as the defect is clearly present and poses a serious safety risk. I also ask NHTSA to record this complaint since my vehicle is excluded despite being the same year/model with identical failures. Please confirm recall eligibility and advise on next steps for repair. I information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6.
After using the button on the door handle to lock the door, the door unlocks on its own. The handle sensor stays activated until the battery drains.
Instrument panel lights check engine light, tpms, vas, eps lights come on. Had the car serviced. Lights comes on after driving for the while they turn off. Occurred 5 times in the last month.
Upon pushing start/stop button, Cr-v won't start. It's at random times the issue happens. Battery was replaced in the last 6 months. 9/23. Still having issues. Replaced the actual start/stop push button in the cabin. Still having issues. After taking Cr-v to Honda dealership, they were able to reproduce the issue and it was determined the starter needs replaced. This SUV has only 77k miles. If you would like more proof as to why this issue for the 2015 needs to have a recall, I would gladly guide you over to the Honda Cr-v owner's club and provide numerous posts of people who have replaced their starter specifically in a 2015 with mileage under 80k. A current coworker is experiencing the same issue on his 2015 Cr-v ex as well, also in the 70k mileage range. If the reason couldn't be more obvious as to why this is a safety issue, starter failure would leave people stranded.
For the very first time I've noticed that my car won't start in a normal way. It was a couple of months ago. It was driving fine back then. Two weeks ago, not only my car won't start many lights came on including the engine service light. I took my car to columbia Honda dealership; they only tested my battery and told me the battery was fine. So, they let me go. On 05/13/2024 my car experienced the same symptoms but this time besides all these lights that came on, my car was not accelerating, just started stalling, therefore I had to take it to the closest shop which is custom complete automotive that is 0. 5 miles away from me. At first, they weren't able to identify the issue, but they found a service bulletin issued by Honda on March 18 , 2016,(please find it attached to my email) according to which there were multiple complaints from the Honda customers about the same issues that are connected to each other. Those are: crank sensor malfunction, o-ring, intake manifold gasket a, engine wire harness. Based on this bulletin, custom complete automotive manager kyle recommended that all those parts needed to be replaced but the repair cost is enormous so I've decided only on the crank sensor to be replaced so that I can proceed with further repairs while be able to drive my car (I've attached the invoice from custom automotive for the crankshaft sensor including their labor work and diagnostics). Last night same symptoms appeared (car won't start and was stalling) and I took it to Honda service again.
The starter button must be pressed multiple times to start the vehicle. Have had an attempted repaired twice and problem persists. I understand there is a recall for this problem in other countries.
We’ve noticed over the pass several weeks starting the engine issues. After fully turning the key to start, the vehicle wouldn’t engage. The dashboard lights up but the car do not start. At first it would start in the second attempt but recently it takes up to (3) attempts before it starts.
Doors lock and unlock by themselves all the time.
5/28/2023: vehicle won’t start, aaa called and towed it to repair facility where they claimed they fixed the issue (battery replacement) 6/01/2023: vehicle traveling wb sr520, where all dashboard warning lights started illuminating. At the same time, steering wheel locks up and infotainment screen shuts off. Was able to get vehicle off the freeway and onto the shoulder of a nearby exit ramp where it eventually died. Called aaa again and had it towed back to the repair facility once again, where this time, the alternator failed.
My vehicle has had multiple parasitic battery events where the battery has been completely drained overnight. I have replaced the battery six times since may of 2022. I took my vehicle to my auto repair shop and they checked every fuse in the vehicle and could not find the problem. The shop called the Honda dealer service center to get advice on what the problem might be and the dealer was unable to provide any recommended solution. I suspect the problem has something to do with a faulty automatic door lock/unlock system. When I approach the vehicle with my key fob, the vehicle will unlock the doors without me touching the door handle. When I get out of the car and push the button on the door handle to lock the doors it does lock, however as I walk away from the car, the doors unlock without me touching the door handle or any part of the car.
[xxx] 2015 Honda crv would not start, called aaa who determined battery needed to be replaced. Aaa replaced battery on the spot upon purchase. [xxx] 2015 Honda crv would not start, called aaa who determined battery was bad, needed to be replaced, aaa replaced with a aaa battery. Battery drain continued, exhausted the aaa road side allotment. 10/2023 local service center checked battery and determined aaa was bad. Purchased and had interstate battery installed. Battery drain continued. Purchased allstart microburst to jump start the 2015 Honda crv. 12/15/2023 went to balise Honda (see attachments) for diagnostic testing. Balise Honda provided a diagnostic result for the "good" battery, but determined that the remote start system that was installed by boch Honda when I purchase the 2015 Honda crv on [xxx] was the problem. The remote start was disconnected. 9/17/2024 went back to balise Honda requested another diagnostic test. Car needed to be "jump started" almost daily even though the crv is driven daily to charge the battery. Disconnecting the remote start did not solve the battery drain. Balise determined a $3212. 12 instrument panel wire harness and keyless access unit was needed. No diagnosis report provided. 10/9/2024: to date the electrical cause is uncertain. Found a consumer reports article that confirmed there are issues with the 2015 Honda crv: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I have a 2015 Honda crv and approximately 18-24 months ago the battery went dead and I took it to the Honda dealer. They checked the battery and said it was fine. I thought perhaps I left my lights on. A short time later, the battery went dead again. I took it back to the same dealer (February 19, 2022) and they gave me a new battery. A short time later, the battery went dead yet again. I returned to the dealer (August 1, 2022) and they gave me a second battery. A short time later, it went dead again. I returned to the dealer (October 26, 2022), insisting to them it couldn't be the battery - there must be something else wrong. They completed a parasitic draw procedure, charged $939. 67 and claimed to have fixed it. A short time later, the battery went dead yet again. I returned to the dealer (November 16, 2022) and the service manager told me there was nothing more they could do, they already spent countless time on this issue and that I just needed to drive the car more. On October 13, 2023, the battery went dead yet again. This time, I contacted Honda customer service and was assigned a case manager who proceeded to tell me that I needed to go back to the dealer and obtain a diagnosis before they could help me. On October 31, 2023, I contacted the service manager at the dealer who told me he was going to charge me by the hour and that the diagnosis may take many hours to determine. There is clearly a defect with this car! there is a class action lawsuit pending which includes many, many prior complaints made to NHTSA on this issue. I am not motivated to continue to pay a dealer to fix an issue that apparently should have been solved by a product recall.
The power steering light intermittently comes on and nearly locks the steering wheel. This occurs without warning while driving. Turning the vehicle off and on sometimes resolves the issue. This occurs without warning and makes steering very difficult. My mechanic confirmed the vehicle is showing a code for the power steering system and said the only solution was to replace the electronic motor. The warning light does not come on until the steering wheel stiffens up. This has occurred many times at various speeds. There seems to be no pattern. Sometimes it does not happen for a week or two, other times it happens multiple times in a day.
I noticed the car shook at first in park or at a light. I made Honda aware 1 month in at 25k miles and was told it was a common flaw with my year make and model and there was nothing to be done. It progressed over 1 year into vigarously shaking while in reverse. I was driving on the road and my car completely cut off on me without warning. It would restart, the ac blew hot, then cut back off. I was almost hit from behind while traffic kept going. I got out of the car for safety to have it towed to the Honda dealership. While off the tow, the car started back up again and went into drive. However, the check engine light was still on and the shaking was still ongoing. Honda told me they cleared the codes and could find nothing wrong. I made them keep the car. It has now been two week. After about 5 days they told me a list of the following problems: 1. Engine harness had corrosion due to coolant leakage 2. Speed sensor and both transmission warmer coolant hoses with clamps needed repair 3. Transmission side mount 4. Evaporator canister vent shut valve stuck closed 5. Front engine mount is collapsed my warranty company refused to repair issue #1 and #2 due to the corrosion. Honda charged me $1800 to repair the problem. The service manager mentioned in a phone call that my car was salvage while reading an email from his district manager. I can not find out if this is in fact true and the sold me a certified pre owned care under false pretenses. I want to make others aware.
Starter motor failed at 40000 miles. Unable to start car on road at night. Dealer replaced $900.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that since owning the vehicle, the battery had been replaced four times. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while pressing the start/stop button. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle occasionally shut off while accelerating, forcing the contact to have the vehicle jump-started. The contact replaced the battery; however, the failure returned approximately a year later. The contact called several dealers and was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to the vehicle stability assist (vsa) system that caused the battery to continuously drain even while the vehicle was off. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to file a complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 137,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle would not start. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
Car won’t start just clicks. Read that this could be related to an engine recall that I had fixed by Honda.
*draining new battery *only 22,000 miles on this vehicle and have replaced alternator, fuses, starter, 3 batteries in 5 years of having this vehicle. Now its parked again cause electrical is making battery dead. *manufacturer does not know what it can be. Check engine code pops up. Please check for recall on my 2015 Honda Cr-v. I have read there is a lawsuit on this issue. Why isn't there a recall so my dealership can fix or replace. Wasting lots of money on this issue they can not find.
Three times the vehicle would not start while at walmart parking lot since over February 2020. I push the button to start and it wont start. The air condition/heater does not work since winter of 2021/2022. The electrical system has gone haywire twice. The lights on dashboard flash and the numbers roll all over since 2021. The door locks are not wanting to lock now for the past 12 months. While I was inside the car the door would not unlock the engine seems to stall for the past 8 months. It feels like it is not getting gas. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer three times for the air with no positive results yet.
In June 2016, my Honda Cr-v 2015 broke down, lost all power, and stopped working in the middle of the road. The vehicle was towed to a Honda dealership - diamond bar, CA. The Honda mechanic diagnosed a p2138, did not solve the problem, and sent me home. The vehicle broke down once again, only for them to claim again that they could not recreate the problem. The vehicle had 12,000 miles on it at this time. I filed a complained with the NHTSA at this time. In September 2017, my Honda Cr-v broke down again, lost all power, and stopped working in the middle of the road. The vehicle was towed to a Honda dealership - alhambra, CA. The Honda mechanic diagnosed a p2647 and fixed the issue. The vehicle had 35,000 miles on it at this time. Now, in August 2021, my Honda Cr-v broke down again, lost all power, and stopped working in the middle of the road. The vehicle was driven to a local mechanic, where he diagnosed the car to have 4 obii codes and recommended taking it to a Honda. I took it to a Honda dealership - buena park, CA. The Honda mechanic diagnosed a p2128 only, said they don't take recommendations from other mechanics, and replaced in the app sensor and gas pedal. The vehicle had 83,000 miles on it at this time. Only 1 week later, my Honda Cr-v broke down again, lost all power, and stopped working in the middle of the road. My odii code diagnosed the issue as a p2138 - the exact same code diagnosed and not fixed by Honda - diamond bar, CA back in 2016. When I called Honda buena park about the car breaking down again, they stated they will charge me another $150 diagnosis fee to look at it again. The above codes have the same issues over and over again, and I believe this vehicle should have a recall with no individual/franchise dealership willing to bite the bullet, looking to yank customer's chains to make the most amount of money for simple fixes. Thank you.
Purchased a 2015 crv ex in 2018. Recently I've started having an issue where on the first or second attempts to start the car with the push button start, the car doesn't crank but clicks and only goes to accessory mode. Generally the car will finally start after pushing the button 3-6 times. There have been situations where I was almost stranded in inclement weather conditions and unsafe surroundings. There is an existing class action law suit against Honda for crv's 2017-2019 for: parasitic draw defect. Crv's built prior to 2017 were not recognized and recalled. According to this Honda class action lawsuit, the problem with the starter motor may be a lack of adequate clearance between the two gears where the starter motor connects to the engine. This lack of clearance can cause the starter motor to wear prematurely, preventing the vehicle from starting. I have changed the battery and the issue still persists. I have called my local Honda dealer and asked them to honor the recall but they stated that the 2015 crv is not included in the recall even though the issues are identical to the those reported with the 2017-2019 crv's. . The contact owns a 2015 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the vehicle would randomly go into "accessory mode". During the failure, the vehicle could not be turned off or shifted into gear. The gear shifter was not functional, and the battery had to be disconnected to turn the vehicle off. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer on several occasions and the computer, battery, remote starter, and starter were replaced; however, the failures persisted. The cause of the failure was not yet determined, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.
I am on my third car battery for a car that is only a little over five years old. I am replacing the batteries every 2-3 years which seems a bit ridiculous. So far, I am out $330. I have tried both oem and non-oem batteries, and nothing seems to make a difference. The first time it happened to me, I was stranded in a store parking lot. A family member came and jump started my car, then followed behind me as I drove to the dealer to get the battery checked and then later to an auto store where I replaced the battery. The guy that replaced my battery said he has the same issue with his crv. The second time (about 2 years later after the first incident), when I went to start my car after driving to a store, the car had trouble starting and when it finally turned over, my dashboard was lit up like a christmas tree. The check engine light, awd, vsa, low tire pressure, and electronic power steering lights all came on. After googling the issue, and seeing that this is a very common problem for Honda crvs, I knew that it was likely the battery. The place I went to checked the battery and sure enough, it needed to be replaced again. I tried calling Honda to ask about it, but they denied that it was even an issue. However, a quick google search revealed that a class action lawsuit was recently filed for 2017-2019 Honda crvs. Although the issue likely goes back much further, the statute of limitations prevented earlier models from being included. This is likely a Honda issue, where something was not properly designed. This is a safety issue, because without a properly functioning battery, important safety features might fail. The driver is also at risk of getting stranded somewhere. My car has had intermittent random trouble starting the whole time I've had it. (there's no pattern to it).
My battery has had issues for the past 3 years. I've put in 3 batteries in the past 3 years and I'm still experiencing issues where my car won't start after only sitting for a day. It's been getting worse as well. I took it to the dealership and they thought they found the parasitic battery drain but it's since gotten worse. My car has been dead 3 times after only sitting for a day since the dealership found the problem. .
Shuts off when half way backed out of the garage. Sometimes takes up to 14 tries to start the vehicle. Gauges function properly but doesnt start. No clicking just nothing. Had it to shop and tbey couldnt find anything wrong. Has been going on since end of 2019.
Car has had problems starting intermittently when parked for the past 6 months. Takes 5-10 tries to start the car before it will start up. Have replaced the battery but the problem still persists.
Car cuts out shortly after starting while backing out of driveway several times per week. Restarts after stopping, and putting in park. Has happened 75-100 times from 2019-now(4/29/20).
The car does not start instantly when pushing the start button, it takes 4-5 tries to start.
There is a current active class action lawsuit against Honda motors regarding the battery draining issue in Honda crv's. The case is in the united states district court southern district of iowa central division. Case # 4:21-cv00148-jaj-cfb. The lawsuit mentions Honda crv's dating back to 2017. My wife owns a 2015 Honda crv that has the same exact battery draining issue. Her crv was recalled in 2018 for a software update that was supposed to correct the issue but it didn't. Since 2018 my wife and I have had to replace the battery 3 times in 4 years. On November 16th, 2022 we replaced the battery with a new one and just 19 days later that brand new battery was dead. This Honda battery draining defect obviously goes further back than 2017. Honda dealerships along with Honda motors are aware of this problem and doing absolutely nothing about this.
I have had a dead battery for two mornings in a row. Car sat overnight on the driveway. The instrument panel came on. Car started after charging it. It also started after it sitting for 10 hours at work.
Dead battery twice in the last 30 days.
Dead battery continues even after dealer replaced. Dies suddenly while in drive and also after just starting. (parking garage after grocery shopping and driveway leaving to work). Dealer has no clue/recommendation to fix.
Rabbits have eaten the power steering 3 times in 2 months. They love the pepper tape they are wrapping it with to fix the problem. My husband and I had to force a rabbit out of it, rabbit was determined to take the wires with it. Honda won't give me a permanent fix. Cant believe they are allowed to use food products on vehicles. 1st 2 times vehicle was found disabled, 3rd time found the rabbit in it, started the vehicle and it wouldn't come out, had to hit it with a stick it did get out, but then it came right back, so I got my husband and he and I had to force it out. The car was disabled again, I could have been driving while this critter did this and that would not have been safe at all. At this point I have no faith in the new vehicles with food products used in them. Car was parked in carport. My last resort to fix this problem is to use coyote urine to keep them away. Just not right.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Cr-v. While the brake pedal was depressed, the brake warning indicator illuminated. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
