1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2025

The dash warning lights all come on when the vehicle is started. Numerous warning messages scroll across the dash indicating just about every system on the vehicle is malfunctioning. The collision warning system stops working, the lane change warning stops working, cruise control stops working. I have no idea what else could have stopped working that could mean the difference between life and death. My vehicle has had this problem for almost two years now. This problem stops after disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes then it comes back unpredictably. Honda dealerships just guess what the problem is because there are no definitive error codes. They randomly want to change parts like fuel injectors, onboard computer, brakes, battery, and others, and charge thousands of dollars and will not refund the money when the problem reappears. This problem is putting drivers at serious risk and Honda has done absolutely nothing to find and repair the problem. There are hundreds of reports of this problem online and Honda has not responded. Honda dealerships are making tons of money from this issue and doing nothing to solve the problem.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2025

Braking system. Vehicle brakes did not brake and vehicle skidded over gravel and a driveway culvert. Vehicle was considered total loss because the airbag went off. My safety and others' was put at risk. Other questions, answer is unknown.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2024

I have repeatedly had to bring my car into the shop (6 times now, only owned it for 5 months) to have the spark plugs and/or fuel injectors replaced multiple times. The car will suddenly start shuddering when trying to accelerate over 2 rpm. It has also stalled twice (while accelerating it slowed down to a stop in the middle of the road) and the engine light will flash. Mechanics have noted misfires in the engine and that the plugs/injector are getting clogged and dirty very quickly. I don't know much about vehicles, but I know I should not have to be replacing the spark plugs and fuel injectors 2-3 times in 5 months of ownership as I've never had to replace them in previous Honda vehicles that were owned for 5+ years.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2024

The vehicle has a consistent problem where all dashboard warning lights come on at the same time, sometimes when this happens the vehicle enters what they call limp mode and won't go above 10-20 mph. This occurred multiple times to me and recently on the highway where a tractor trailer almost hit my vehicle because of the loss of speed with no brake lights. It has been to multiple Honda dealerships where most recently I was told it was fuel injectors. I replaced the fuel injectors and it happened again this time the dealership told me to replace the turbo. Did that and on the way home from the dealership the lights come back on. There should be a class action law suit against Honda for this common issue that they don't take seriously. Wait until someone actually is hurt by this problem.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2024

Multiple times my vehicle has flashed "brake" when there was no object in front of me. At times there were shadows from trees that I thought may have prompted the warning. But in the past 6 weeks during interstate driving and adaptive cruise control engaged, the vehicle brakes for no reason. This can happen several times in just a short distance, or sometimes I can drive 25 miles and it doesn't happen at all. There is no rhyme or reason to the frequency. Most of the time it drops the speed about 5 mph but keeps the cruise engaged at that new speed. I have never let it drop more than 15 mph for fear of causing an issue with other drivers. This past week it applied the brakes just as a semi truck moved into my lane behind me at a close distance. I was afraid the truck would rear-end me. I have received the following warnings in the instrument panel: "road departure mitigation system problem", "collision mitigation system problem", and "adaptive cruise control problem. My husband took pictures of the warnings as they appeared while I was driving. Honda diagnostics could not identify even one code.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2023

I own a 2017 Honda crv ex awd. While driving downhill on a mountain road on Dec. 9, 2023, all of my dashboard warning lights and alarms began flashing and sounding off. Some of the warnings cycled through one after another while others were simultaneous. I continued to drive looking for a safe place to pull over. Going downhill I was able to maintain some speed, but when the road leveled off I found I was unable to accelerate to more than 5-10 miles per hour despite the engine continuing to rev. After pulling over, I stopped the engine for 10 minutes. Upon restarting, the dashboard warnings repeated the same process. At first opportunity, I took the car to a Honda dealership where code dtc p0304 was diagnosed and I was advised that the problem was failure of my fuel injectors. Repairs were made at a cost of more than $2000. Fortunately, this failure did not happen to me on a crowded freeway going at higher speeds as it could have easily created a situation where property damage, injuries, or fatalities could have occurred.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2023

The incident happened on 11/2/2023 at 8:40 am et. I was at the speed of about 25-30 miles/hour to drop my daughter at preschool. Suddenly, I received an alert on my dashboard saying "brake system problem". When I applied brakes, the vehicle wouldn't stop. I pressed brake pedal very hard and kept it that way for a while. The vehicle gradually came to a stop but it took long for a vehicle to come to a stop. It was a 'brake failure experience'. If there was a downward slope and/or if I was at a higher speed, the vehicle would have gone out-of-control. I don't recall if I felt automatic acceleration when this incident happen. After vehicle came to a stop, I immediately engaged the parking brake, stopped the ignition, called emergency road-side assistance and got the vehicle towed to a dealership. This incident definitely put me, my 3 year old daughter, and others on the road at risk. Dealership inspected the vehicle. They found an error code that confirms the occurrence of the problem but they are unable to duplicate the issue. They don't know why it happened, nor can they guarantee that this will not happen again. They said they followed manufacturers guidelines to troubleshoot the problem. Since they cannot find why it happened, they don't have anything to fix, and advised me to pay the labor charges and pick my vehicle. I reported this issue to american Honda. Case # 14229789. They were concerned that the brakes should have responded well since the model is not hybrid or fully electric. This makes me feel more nervous. American Honda said they are going to investigate this and will get in touch with the dealership where the vehicle currently is. This vehicle was inspected and serviced at the same Honda dealership about 3 weeks ago. The vehicle has been meticulously maintained. All routine maintenances have been done at Honda dealership consistently on time. The vehicle has relatively new battery from 2022. I request you to look into the matter and advise.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2023

Gear shift knob button broken. Cheap plastic and fell off.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2023

Major driveability/safety issue. The vehicle started skipping and jerking on highway I-93 on the new hampshire/ massachusetts line. I was accelerating to 65 mph and merged with traffic, when the car engine began stalling intermittently. The check engine and maintenance indicator lights turned on. As I coasted to the side of the road, the vehicle continued to jerk and slow/speed up.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2023

My car went into the limp mode when I was driving and would only go 7 to 8 miles per hour. This is a big safety hazard. Had I been on the freeway and not near my home, it could have easily caused an accident. I had it towed to the dealer and they could not find anything wrong and said it was probably bad gas. Prior to this, several lights had come on the dash stating that all of the systems in the car were not working. They also could not tell me why that was happening. It seems now that I find out that Honda crvs made in the year 2017 have bad fuel injectors. I'm having to get that replaced. I'm not sure if that's what caused the car to go into the limp mode.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2023

Collision mitigation system problem indicator light causing random braking and false brake warnings.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2022

I was going ~60-65mph on the ronald reagan freeway east bound on a rainy day at ~ 3:40pm on 27th December 2022. I was going on the second from left lane between the rinaldi and porter ranch exits. Unbeknownst to me this part of the freeway is notorious for flooding in the left lanes. I applied the brakes gently to slow down my car. Suddenly, I felt I lost steering, the car skidded the steering wheel turned left into the median barrier. The car then made a complete u-turn in the direction of traffic and flipped over one complete revolution. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the crash and other cars were not involved. There were no warnings and indication that the car was hydroplaning. The skidding safety feature was turned on. I released the car to the insurance company to recover monetary loss and I don't have any information on if it was inspected. Chp has an accident report with number 9580. The reason I am reporting this incident is because, I believe me gently braking to slow down from 60-65 to 50-55mph should not have caused the car to u-turn and flip. I believe the 2017 Honda crv safety system malfunctioned because unbeknownst to the Honda sensing system the car was already hydroplaning. It braked and made some automatic steering and braking decisions that caused the car to turn and flip. I believe the control algorithm of the 2017 Honda crv failed to detect the car was hydroplaning and subsequently executed steering and braking decisions that caused the total loss of my car.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2022

During a recent vacation my husband and I were on 95n just outside ft. Lauderdale, florida. My husband attempted to change lanes into the passing lane. As he depressed the gas pedal and turned into the lane, our Honda stalled and would not respond to any demand for acceleration. By the time we realized what was happening we'd gone from 65 miles per hour to about 30 miles per hour in a heavy flow of traffic, with oncoming traffic decelerating quickly and coming dangerously close upon the rear of our vehicle. There happened to be repairs to the left of our lane, with associated traffic cones so no cars were in that lane, and we were able to drift into that lane and restart our car. This happened once before on a very slow travel lane in my neighborhood and I didn't connect that the car had stalled. In retrospect this is the second occurrence. While I will certainly be taking the car for service at the Honda dealer, I also researched and found out that Honda is aware of this issue and does not deem it a safety issue, thus not using any sort of safety recall. My experience was harrowing, and certainly could have resulted in our own impact and indeed a larger impact on 95n after our stall. This was no joke and luckily my husband did not panic and we were able to respond and drift to safety. If that lane to our left had not been closed, no way could we have made it to the right side of the highway to the "slow" side of the road.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2022

While in adaptive cruse control and traveling at highway speeds of 70 mph, I attempted to pass a slower moving semi tractor and trailer. Just as I was about to complete the pass, with traffic building up behind me, the system went to automatic braking, as if there were traffic in front of me. There was absolutely no traffic in front of me for at least a mile. This occurred on a bright sunny day on a straight stretch of road. I was able to apply excessive pressure to the gas pedal and slowly able to get the car up to highway speed again without getting rear ended. This has happened on three occasions, always with passing a tractor trailer. I have taken it to the dealer and they say they can find no problem. In addition, more times than I can count, I have had the car alert me and apply the breaks when there are no cars in front of me or beside me during normal driving (no cruse control). Lastly, almost without fail, if I am traveling at highway speeds using adaptive cruse control and the car in front of me takes an exit, my car will almost always break, even though the car that was in front of me is now clearly off on the exit. These sudden slowdowns when the traffic behind me is expecting me to maintain speed or speed up is a real hazard for getting rear ended or having someone get hostile towards me with their driving. Again, the dealer has been notified many times and indicates that they can find no problem. I have now turned off all the automatic driving features to avoid these issues, but the second issue still remains and I am out over $3,000 for a group of electronic components in my car that I can not use due to safety issues. Issue started with the car when brand new and continues to this day.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2021

Recently my 2017 Honda crv started flashing these 3 warning 1. Road departure mitigation system problem 2. Adaptive cruise control problem 3. Collision mitigation system problem. But once in quarter these warnings flash but after engine power off/on warning message goes away. Last week when I was driving on the interstate highway, all of sudden this warning flashed, after a while I stopped at a service station. Off/ on the engine but all of the 3 warnings didn't go off. From a safety point of view cruise/collision mitigation/collision mitigation control is very important on highway. At-least these features prevent and keep you alert while changing lanes, apply proper braking system on the highway from safety measure. The vehicle has not been driven more than 42k miles in the last 4 years. Although the 3 year 36 miles standard warranty is already passed. Today when I went to the service center after diagnosticians they mentioned that the cruise control sensor has failed due to these issues. Due to pandemic the supply chain is impacted and part is not available. So I ordered the part to the service center. The brake system light is also on. Similar issue occurred sometime in 2018 after purchase of the new car in 2017. Initially I informed this issue to the service center. Case no was open with Honda - case # 06624477. But the issue was not able to be replicated, the service center people told me that the software is updated and that it is not going to flash again. Looks like these new generation cars start creating problems once it completes its life cycle of 3 years and 36k miles warranty period. At least going for a new car was for peace of mind, but looks like this went the other way for me. Last 6 month back I had to get repaired the complete air conditioner unit, service center people mentioned that ac hose pipe has leakage.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2020

I could've not coax my car over 20 mph it was scary since a speeding car was behind me.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2020

I have a 2017 Honda crv. This is the second time I had the same issue. All my warning light electric parking brake problem, charging system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, electric parking brake problem, brake hold system problem, power steering system (eps) problem, vehicle stability assist (vsa) problem, hill start assist problem. Are back on. When this happens for the first time dealership tole me their was an update to the system which will fix the issue. Month later I am having the same issue.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2020

Shift knob button broke in half as I was placing my Cr-v 2017 in park. Broken piece completely fell out. Unable to shift gears. Needed to use a screwdriver to depress the gear mechanism and shift into park.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2019

At exactly two years old, the battery died. There is a service bulletin for a software update but of course, my vehicle didn't need update, it needed a new battery due to dead cell that happened within six hours. The top sides of the body has ripples down both sides. Was told this is usually cause by roof rack (I don't have roof rack) or by car wash (my car has never been through a car wash. I won't even let dealer wash it when I'm there). The car brakes hard even when there is no obstruction in front of me. The cruise, lane assist, mitigation will all shut off at various times saying radar is off/blocked. On 10/08/19 while driving, the lcd screen started beeping, flashing and going black. Nothing would work. Car is becoming dangerous to be on roadway. Filed complaint with Honda on a couple issues. Sorry for my luck, it's now out of warranty due to mileage.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2019

I was traveling at a slow speed and stopped to let a vehicle pass on a narrow side street and then pulled over to let another vehicle pass. When I pulled over the car accelerated and could not be stopped with the brakes. I was able to yank the car our of gear leaving the engine racing and then just as quickly it slowed to an idle.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2019

While driving on the highway at 65mph the silver button on the gear shift spontaneously broke off the handle used to shift between park, neutral and drive. No one was touching the shifter at that time. This was a very distracting event -- I suddenly saw the broken button. Trying to figure out what was "going on" distracted me from looking at the road, with the associated risk of loosing "situational awareness". I was fortunate in that I rapidly refocused on the road and no accident occurred. The person in the front-passenger seat figured out what had happened. I talked to 2 dealers and they indicated that they have seen this with several other crvs. Based on my experience and the dealer feedback, this is not an isolated incident. This is a manufacturer defect that impacts multiple cars; the distraction created when it happens on the highway can result in someone getting into a potentially fatal accident if this defect is not proactively addressed. I reported it to Honda America. They told me that they will report it to Honda, but made no commitment to addressing it or getting back to me on their decision. A proactive recall and repair of the problem needs to happen before someone gets hurt.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2019

The Honda sensing that control the automatic braking is defective. The vehicle does automatic braking without any obstacles in view. The first incident vehicle traveling at 70 mph on the freeway and vehicle applied the brakes almost causing multi car collisions. The second incident at 40 mph. Dealer refused to fix. Urgent attention needed. Class action lawsuits pending across the states.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2019

Amber caution annunciation for acc, cms, rwds and lkas with steady brake system amber indicator while driving on a two-lane highway at highway speeds. Pulled onto shoulder of highway, shut off ignition and restarted, clearing the cautions.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2019

While driving vehicle in the city, check engine light flashes on and off. Vehicle loses power and will not accelerate, creating serious safety issue. Dealer confirmed engine oil dipstick had unusally strong smell of gasoline. Vehcile has been serviced once by Honda dealer. I was assured that all necessary fixes were made. Same issue happened again. Returned vehicle to Honda dealer for additional service.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2018

Acc and lkas warning lights illuminated. Took to dealership, they washed the car and said the problem was leaves blocking sensor. Next time I started the car, got steady chime from dash telling me there was an acc problem. Consistent issue. There were no accidents, damages and it was a clear, bright day in both cases.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2018

I bought my Cr-v in Feb 2017. Since 6th oct 2018 I have begun to notice hesitancy problems with acceleration after coming to a complete stop and in some cases the engine has also stalled. Car was not in econ mode, being driven on 'd' mode on a city street. Faced similar issue on a highway while in traffic. Today (15th oct) it happened thrice back to back in a 20 minute drive on a city street.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2018

Honda sensing issue - when driving in normal conditions, the vehicle would apply brake by itself as if a frontal collision is expected even if there were no other vehicle in-front.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2018

I have had the Honda since Nov 2017 & have had 2 shutter release problems-loss of power‼️‼️ it reduced 15 miles an hour going up a hill & kept reducing power. . I could have been on a two way road & gotten into head on‼️‼️ took it to dch Honda temecula, CA & they said there is no fix & wanted me to go on my merry way‼️‼️ called their corp. Office, opened a case it but the case person would not talk to me or call me back‼️‼️ I have an arbitration case now set up with ncds & Honda. . Honda is not under the CA lenon law but with ncds (national center for dispute settlement). The Honda person assigned to arbitration case called me & told me I don't have a case as I only took it in 1 time. But, I called dch-Honda temecula, CA to set up appt to get this fixed & they wouldn't call me back for appt. - as the can't fix it‼️‼️ this car is going to cause a death & Honda could care less, I just don't want to be that death statistic‼️‼️ the us does not need a company that doesn't stand up & acknowledge their faulty products & fix them‼️‼️😠 now "high beam problem" is coming up on dash‼️‼️ it's the Lexus gas petal issue - & that ended up causing 3 deaths‼️‼️.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2018

Driving highway 15 east toward las vegas, nv. Light on instrument cluster "shutter grille problem - power reduced". Very dangerous condition as the engine power was reduced to 50 mph on the highway, I was unable to pass an 18 wheeler truck due to reduced engine power. Stopped at nearby Honda dealer, service dept. Was closed, new car manager said "I have no idea what this code means" after sitting for 15 minutes code reset itself only to come back on after another 10 minutes of driving. Temperature was 103 degrees outside. Went to Honda dealership in las vegas to be told again "have never seen this code before". No resolution - very dangerous condtion to loose 50% of engine power on the freeway.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2018

For the third time, since buying the car new, all the warning lights came on, and all safety systems shut down. This time power steering was also lost which could've caused a crash. I believe this is due to rodent damage again. Honda sells rodent tape and I've used it but can't tell where the rodents will eat. I belive this is due to the soy-based insulation and other parts in the car as none of my other vehicles have ever had this issue and I live in a rural environment. Vehicle was not being drivenwas temporarily parked outside when this happened.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2018

Honda sensing activated and slammed on the brakes during regular suburban driving without anything to prompt it. I was driving about 40 miles an hour down a local road without having a car in front of me. The vehicle slammed on the brakes and sent a warning as if something was impeding the front pathway while moving. There were not any cars in front and the car slammed on the brakes causing my belt to lock unexpectedly and vehicle to slow down dramatically leading to me almost being rear ended.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

While approaching and crossing over a railroad crossing at approximately 30mph on a city street, the word brake flashed a couple times and my car completely stopped, so hard as if I slammed my brakes on and my purse flew off the front passenger seat and I was jolted forward, my seatbelt tightened. The same thing has happened one time since then. I'm not sure if this is a braking problem or front camera sensory problem but it was very confusing and scary.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

All lights in dash are flashing cruze control does not work car has braked hard by itself for no reason I have had this car for 5 months and it has done this off on on computor has been reset twice alllights have been flashing for 4000 miles now why has there not been a recall.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2018

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the warning message "brake" illuminated, and the vehicle inadvertently engaged the vehicle decelerated. The contact stated that she released and then depressed the accelerator pedal and continued to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving. The contact stated that the vehicle engaged the brake pedal independently and completely stopped the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure because the obd reader could not read any codes. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to follow up with the dealer for diagnosis. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2017

Traveling on interstate at the speed limit the car suddenly braked. All safety systems were activated at this time. Fortunately there was no traffic in front, behind or beside. I got the car under control , turned all systems off and proceeded. Messages on dash indicated four systems were inoperatable. When I got home I called Honda to report. They suggested I take the car to my dealer. I did so the following day. (this happened on a weekend) they indicated there was a "bulletin" out on this problem. They downloaded new software to correct the problem. Now my concern. Bulletins are only acted upon when an owner complains. The issue I outlined above warrants surely qualifies for more than a bulletin. At the same time. At the dealer I learned of another problem. . . A recall for a gas line issue. Someone needs to inform the owners of this vehicle when a recall is made. I was not informed. I accidentally found out about it. At the dealer , consumer gives permission to discuss this matter with the Honda corp.
